Studies find Liberated Women becoming Alcoholics instead of June Cleavers

It is rather ironic that the sexual revolution coincided with the women’s movement.  Women liberated themselves by being more sexually active.  Which is why men loved the women’s movement.  Because they got more of what they wanted.  More sex with more different women.

This focus on women’s sexuality did more to sexualize women than any man did.  What did birth control and abortion do for women?  It gave them the freedom not to get pregnant when having sex.  So they had more sex.  Turning them into sexual objects. Because men didn’t have to marry them to have sex with them.  Which was just fine with them.

It is interesting that women have defined their liberation by living more destructive lives.  Their sexual revolution led to an explosion in STDs.  As women became more liberated more women smoked.  In fact a popular ad for Virginia Slims was, “You’ve come a long way, baby.”   Showing a modern, beautiful, sexy women smoking a cigarette.  About as unlike June Cleaver as you can get.  And what liberated woman doesn’t drink(see Female alcohol abuse is a ‘global epidemic’ by Ann Dowsett Johnson posted 10/5/2013 on the New York Post)?

Alcohol abuse is rising in much of the developed world — and in many countries, female drinkers are driving that growth…

Women with a university degree are almost twice as likely to drink daily as those without. “I ask myself every day if I’m an alcoholic,” says one rising corporate star. “I’m 32, and I drink every night. All my friends drink every night. We haven’t had our kids yet, and we all drink the same way we did in university.”

Says Katherine Brown, director of policy at Britain’s Institute of Alcohol Studies: “Young professional women drink a lot more than women in manual and routine jobs — what you call blue collar. Is it marketing, keeping up with the machismo, children..?”

Brown believes that a crucial driver is the norms of the university years. “It’s an alcohol-soaked environment,” she says. “At the university I went to — Exeter — Carlsberg was a sponsor of events held on campus. The focus was on getting really, really drunk and the most horrendous things used to happen. All social events revolved around drinking, and acting the fool was celebrated…

“It is the issue affecting girls’ health — and it’s going sideways, especially for those 13 to 15.” This is the voice of Nancy Poole, director of research and knowledge translation at the British Columbia Centre of Excellence for Women’s Health. “And the saddest thing,” says Poole, “is alcohol is being marketed as girls’ liberation.”

Drinking calms us.  And lowers our inhibitions.  We drink at a party to get the courage to talk to that person we’re attracted to.  New strippers drink a lot so they can strip down to a tiny thong and gyrate on a man’s lap.  In fact, drinking has been used for years as the prelude for sexual pleasures.  Which is why men buy women drinks.  To get them drunk enough so they lose their inhibitions and have sex with them.  Which is probably why 13-15 year old boys are finding ways to get alcohol so they can binge drink at parties.  And get girls so drunk that they can have sex when they are not of right mind to say ‘no’.  Because nothing puts a damper on having sex more than a girl saying ‘no’.

Of course, these boys get an assist from government.  Thanks to that free birth control available at school.  And abortions without parental notification.  Which gives them the argument that there is nothing to worry about.  Even if there is something to worry about.  Because there’s a way to make problems go away.

When they get to university they take it up a notch.  Because there are no parents around looking out for their best interests.  So they binge drink.  Act stupid.  And do horrendous things.  The kind of things you want to start drinking to forget about when you wake up the following morning.  Unless someone uploads a video of you in the throes of that horrendous thing.  Or you brought home a souvenir that will require medication for the indefinite future.  Or longer.

Liberated woman, you have come a long way.  Baby.

FT169: “College is more about making Democrat voters than giving students marketable skills.” —Old Pithy

Fundamental Truth

Another Big Reason why College Tuition has been Soaring is because of Public Sector Unions

College tuition is rising.  With increases greater than the rate of inflation.  With some tuition costs growing greater than costs in health care.  There are many reasons for this.  Unlike private sector business colleges cannot produce more with less.  That is, they cannot use productivity gains to educate more students with fewer professors.  Auto manufacturers can use robots to replace people on the assembly line.  Reducing wage, pension and health care costs.  The biggest costs that go into a car.

Universities are big campuses with lots of buildings that basically do one thing.  Sit students down in front of a professor.  This hasn’t change since the first days of higher education.  The only things that have changed are the buildings are a lot nicer.  And university employees all have better pay, pensions and health care than they used to have.  Which is why tuition costs keep rising.  For universities, unlike auto manufacturers, can’t speed up their assembly lines by using robots instead of people.  But it’s not only the auto manufacturers and the universities that have high labor, pension and health care costs.

Another big reason why university tuition has been soaring is because of public sector unions.  Who have negotiated some extremely generous union contracts.  Cities and states everywhere are drowning under the costs of their labor, pension and health care costs.  Forcing them to cut back spending elsewhere to pay for those generous public sector union contracts.  So they’re cutting back on their subsidies for higher education.  And what the state cuts the universities just tack on to the student’s tuition bill.

Universities lure High School Kids into College with Promises of a Big Paycheck for an Easy Degree

Today’s tuition costs will saddle a student with the kind of debt that can pay for a house.  A very big house.  One of those McMansions.  Depending on where you go to college.  Which is all well and fine if a student gets a high-paying job after graduating.  Sadly, though, a lot aren’t.  A lot are taking jobs that they could have gotten out of high school.  Without that massive student loan debt.  Debt they will be paying for a long, long time.  Making it very difficult for them to buy a house and start a family.  And the reason for this is too many students are taking degrees with no market value in a high-tech economy.

Today’s businesses are looking for people with a strong science and math background.  For this is what businesses in a high-tech economy need.  Not people with degrees in anthropology.  Philosophy.  Women’s studies.  Art history.  Comparative literature.  Communication.  Or a myriad of other degrees that a business just can’t use.  Yet our universities are selling these degrees.  Telling their prospective students who don’t want the heavy math load a science and engineering degree requires that these other degrees are just as good.  And that they, too, can have that big paycheck.  Just like engineers and chemists and doctors and physicists.  All they need is a student loan.  And the world can be their oyster.

So these kids starting their adult lives start that life by making one of the worst decisions of their lives.  Because they really want to go to college.  For the fun.  Universities lure these high school kids into higher education.  Appealing to them as adults.  Who can live away from home out from under the judgmental eyes of their parents.  For on a college campus there is a lot of fun to be had.  Sex.  Drugs.  Alcohol.  And health services.  Such as birth control and access to abortion services.  For all the consequence-free fun a high school graduate could ever ask for.  This is the bait.  And all they have to do to have all of that grownup fun is to borrow enormous sums of money that they will probably never be able to pay back.

Liberals say You should Never Rush to Judgment, Especially if we can’t Blame Conservatives

For the universities, though, it’s not just the money.  For their curriculum is the product of those Sixties’ radicals.  Who tried to overthrow capitalism.  And replace it with communism.  As they were never able to incite the workers’ revolt in the United States they changed tack.  And continued their revolution from the inside.  By becoming college professors.  Who eventually got tenure.  And went on to write the curriculum.  Basically an anti-capitalist, America is responsible for all the world’s problems and an anti-religious/anti-tradition curriculum.  Hence the socially liberal campus where anything goes.  And those college degrees that have no market value.  That advanced a relentless attack on capitalism and business.  And made their students eschew American greatness.

This curriculum has helped President Obama win reelection despite a horrific economic record.  And a brutal attack on the American mission in Benghazi.  The result of a failed foreign policy that tried to make nice with America’s enemies.  Who have been trying—and at times succeeding—to kill Americans.  The Fort Hood shooting by a radical Islamist.  The underwear bomber (failed Islamist plot).  The Times Square bomber (failed Islamist plot).  As well as other smaller and lesser known incidents.  Both successful and failed Islamist plots.  Then Benghazi.  And the death of 4 Americans.  Despite earlier witnessing an increase of anti-Western violence in the city.  A resurgent al Qaeda.  And an anniversary date holy to radical Islam.  9/11.  The U.S. mission in Benghazi requested additional security.  The Obama administration denied it as it would not fit the 2012 campaign meme.  ‘Osama bin Laden is dead.  And General Motors is alive.’  President Obama had won the War on Terror with the killing of bin Laden.  Therefore, they couldn’t have a terrorist attack in Benghazi before the 2012 election.  So the Obama administration made up the story about an anti-Islamic YouTube video that led to a spontaneous protest in front of the U.S. mission.  A protest that naturally got out of hand when the people pulled RPGs and mortars out of their pockets and started a military assault on the American compound.

The Obama administration then started to disseminate the lie.  They sent Secretary Rice to the Sunday morning television shows with severely edited talking points to downplay any role of radical Islam.  Then President Obama and Secretary Clinton made numerous public statements denouncing that YouTube video.  Even made a video to air in Pakistan.  And the mainstream media, the product of that anti-capitalist, America is responsible for all the world’s problems and anti-religious/anti-tradition curriculum never questioned anything.  They just dutifully carried the administration’s water.  And now that signs of a cover-up are coming out the administration is saying the only reason why they made any edits to those talking points was to prevent anyone from rushing to judgment.  Something they say we should never do.  Especially if we can’t blame conservatives.  Or Christians.  Like they did with the YouTube video that proved to be a red herring.  And as they—and their friends in the mainstream media—have rushed to judgment in the past.  By quickly blaming radical conservatives for every other massacre.  Only to see it turn out to be someone who wasn’t a conservative.  But a radical Islamist(s) instead.  Or someone suffering from mental illness.

Of course this wouldn’t be possible without higher education.  Where college is more about making Democrat voters than giving students marketable skills.  One could even blame those deaths in Benghazi on that anti-capitalist, America is responsible for all the world’s problems and anti-religious/anti-tradition curriculum.  (As well as being the reason why these kids can’t find any high-paying jobs; the vote for anti-business Democrat candidates whose policies discourage economic growth.)  Because protecting Americans in Benghazi would have been bad for the Democrats in 2012.  So perhaps we should be addressing the high cost of higher education.  And follow the example of the automotive industry.  By producing more graduates with fewer professors.  And put an end to the liberal Shangri la of the college campus.  By replacing the bulk of higher education with online studies.  For if a 15-year old girl can make medical decisions about the morning after pill by reading the contents of the packaging without consulting a doctor or parent then she can get her higher education online.  Without all the fun.  Or student loan debt.

In California 54% of the People voted to have 1% of the People pay $6 Billion more in Annual Taxes

Posted by PITHOCRATES - November 10th, 2012

Week in Review

The Left is applauding California for voting to raise taxes on the rich.  Saying that California is choosing to be responsible.  While the federal government continually chooses to be irresponsible.  But is this democracy?  Or mob rule?  We can find the answer to these questions easily by understanding what this vote really did (see Californians approve massive tax hike on the wealthy by Tami Luhby posted 11/7/2012 on CNN Money).

Californians approved a measure Tuesday that raises taxes on the wealthy and hikes the state sales tax. It is expected to bring in $6 billion a year, on average, over five years.

Proposition 30, which Governor Jerry Brown has lobbied heavily for, captured 54% of the vote. Its approval prevents massive budget cuts to the state’s public schools and universities…

The wealthiest 1% of Californians — those with annual incomes of $533,000 or more — will shoulder nearly 79% of the tax increase, according to the California Budget Project, a research group that endorsed the proposition. They will see their taxes rise by 1.1% of their income, while the bottom four-fifths of the state’s residents will see an increase of between 0.1% and 0.2% of their incomes…

The measure is expected to raise $8.5 billion in new revenue, according to the Department of Finance. Some $2.9 billion will go to schools, while the remaining $5.6 billion can go toward closing budget gaps.

But the Legislative Analyst’s Office warns that the measure depends heavily on the income of the wealthiest residents, which is volatile and difficult to predict.

So a mob of 54% of the electorate voted to have 1% of the population pay more in taxes.  Who are already paying the lion’s share of taxes.  Problem solved.  Or so they think.  For will these rich people stay in California where a mob can shake them down to pay for more free stuff for those who don’t pay taxes?

Oh, it’s easy to get the mob to increase taxes on others.  Especially if it’s for education.  So students can go to college and get their degrees in film and gender studies.  Degrees that won’t help them get high paying jobs.  But will leave them with more student loan debt.  So why do it?  Because if they didn’t subsidize education more in California how else would they pay for those high university pay and benefits packages?  Which is what is really driving up the cost of education.  For what is education but some books and a lot of people on a university campus?  There is no manufacturing equipment.  No raw material costs.  Education is nothing but overhead.  And an expensive overhead at that.  Just look at the housing the senior professors and administrators live in.  And the lives they enjoy.  They’re the same kind of lives that the so-called 99% demonize business owners and Wall Street types for living.  But because they are on a university campus they get a pass.

A lot of Hollywood moving-making business is leaving California.  Look at the closing titles of some current movies and you will see a lot of them are filmed on location.  Where they can escape the high cost of movie-making in Hollywood, California.  And if the movie-makers are fleeing the high cost of California it would be foolish to think that the richest 1% will not find more agreeable tax locales to invest their money.  And to live.  So don’t count on that additional $6 billion a year yet California.  Because these new tax rates will probably bring in a whole lot less revenue than that.  As increased tax rates always do.

Students in the US and the UK enroll in the Easy Degree Programs instead of Math and Science to have more Fun at University

Posted by PITHOCRATES - September 8th, 2012

Week in Review

The liberal Democrats want to provide a college degree for everyone.  They want cheap student loans.  And more money spent on grants.  Anything and everything to increase the number of kids going on to college.  There is only one problem.  They are going to college.  But few are learning anything worthwhile (see We must shift science out of the geek ghetto by Liz Truss posted 9/3/2012 on The Telegraph).

Planes and trains will help deliver prosperity, but brains are the trump card…

Scientific and technical skills top the global league; maths graduates command the highest salaries, closely followed by engineers and computer scientists. But in Britain the message isn’t getting through – especially at school, where scientific expertise is seen as specialist and difficult. The vast majority of children drop any study of science at 16.

This contrasts with emerging economies such as India, where science is a mass aspiration… Young Indians don’t aspire to be pop singers or football stars, but computer engineers or technicians…

One of the underlying problems is that students in the US and UK often do not persevere in science. In the US, 40 per cent of students taking science and engineering switch their major or drop out, recognising that students achieve higher grades in arts subjects for less work. In the UK, students drop science even earlier. Evidence suggests that the level required in science and maths A-levels has been up to two grades tougher than in communication studies or sociology. Why risk doing a harder subject and getting a worse mark..?

In Japan, 85 per cent of students achieve the equivalent of maths A-level…

Indian students study maths and science for twice as long each week at high school as their British or American counterparts. It is not surprising that this hard work builds up the appetite to take science to a higher level…

Germany managed to transform its approach in 10 years…

Standards were yanked up and it was understood that teachers and students would have to work longer and harder. Instead of ending school at lunchtime, German children often stay from 7am until 4pm or 5pm. By 2009, results had improved significantly and overtaken the UK, which was ominously described by Pisa as having “stagnated at best”.

Occupy Wall Street was full of people with college degrees that couldn’t find work.  They incurred a lot of student loan debt because people told them that a college degree was a guarantee to a better and more well-paid future.  Only no one told them that it made a difference what that college degree was in.  Universities gave out a lot of expensive albeit worthless liberal arts and social science degrees.  Those easy ones with few math and science requirements.  Because it was easier to admit students for the easier degrees.  And colleges need students to pay their faculty those generous pay and benefits.  As well as all those campus workers.  So they count on large government subsidies.  And cheap student loans to bury students in debt to get a degree that few businesses will hire them for.  Because the key to those cushy jobs in our colleges is filling those classrooms.  It doesn’t matter what they learn they just have to pay to sit in those classrooms.

Of course everything people told these kids was wrong.  But do they care?  They just go after the next batch of graduating high school seniors.  Who are eager to go to college.  But often times more for the fun than the learning.  And our educators don’t care about the lives they may destroy by giving these kids the kind of debt their degrees can’t repay.  And the Left’s answer to this?  More federal jobs.  Which people joke are jobs for the unemployable.  Like those graduating with those worthless degrees.  So a lot of new government jobs help to feed the system.  When there is enough economic activity in the private sector to pay the taxes to support these bloated public sector bureaucracies, that is.

So is there a method to this madness?  Worthless jobs for worthless degrees?  Of course there is.  It helps to expand the growth of government.  When young graduates with worthless degrees get cushy federal jobs they of course vote Democrat.  Which is the ultimate goal of the federal government-public university relationship.  You scratch my back and I’ll scratch your back.  So the universities teach students about the evils of capitalism and the urgency of global warming.  And the government hires these people.  To fill the jobs of the expanding federal government.  That interferes ever further into the private sector.  The universities and the government each get what they want.  When there is enough economic activity in the private sector to pay the taxes to support these bloated public sector bureaucracies, that is.  When there isn’t they occupy Wall Street and complain about the corporations that won’t hire them.  Instead of the education system that ripped them off.
