The Social Democracies of Europe were all Oppressive Absolute Monarchies at one Time

What happened in Newtown, Connecticut, was a tragedy.  The shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary took 26 lives.  Including 20 children.  The most innocent of us.  Which has ignited a firestorm of debate over guns.  The Left blames these deaths on an epidemic of gun violence.  Caused by people having access to guns.  So the Left wants to have a real debate on gun control.  To stop this epidemic of child deaths caused by firearms.  By severely restricting access to guns.

Those on the Right, on the other hand, want to protect their Second Amendment right.  The right to keep and bear arms.  Which allowed the First Amendment.  Freedom of speech.  The British colonial governors tried hard to clamp down on the anti-British sentiment in their American colonies.  And to muzzle that anti-British speech.  They sent over British Red Coats to occupy American cities to keep order.  And to find and confiscate the Americans’ guns.  So the first few amendments of the Bill of Rights (the first 10 amendments) protected free speech.  Gave us the power to protect ourselves from future state oppressors.  And they even included the Third Amendment.  Which states, “No Soldier shall, in time of peace be quartered in any house, without the consent of the Owner, nor in time of war, but in a manner to be prescribed by law.”  Again, further protection from state oppression.

The nature of states is to oppress their people.  Most have throughout history.  Even the social democracies of Europe were all oppressive absolute monarchies at one time.  Where kings could do pretty much anything they wanted to.  England changed that with representative government.  America expanded on these liberties in the New World.  And ever since has been very wary of government.  Until the Twentieth century.  When the growth of government began.  Transferring ever more power to the federal government.  Everything the Founding Fathers feared would happen without a Bill of Rights.

When it comes to Restricting our Constitutional Rights Liberals Trust Government while Fearing Republicans

Those on the Left say the Constitution is a relic of a different age.  That today’s government is a kinder government.  A more caring government.  One that just wants to take care of the people.  By providing generous benefits.  Of course this is how some of the worst dictatorships started.  Nazi Germany and the USSR both put the people first.  Or so they said.  Even their names said they were putting the people first.  The Nazis were National Socialists.  And the USSR was the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics.  Socialism is all about taking care of the people.  Yet these nations had some the most brutal secret police that terrorized and oppressed their people.  For there is no easier way to dictatorial power than championing the people.  And once the people stop fearing their government is when the state can take away their guns.  To make that oppression easier.  The Syrian government is currently having difficulty oppressing their people because they failed to keep guns out of the hands of those they wish to oppress.

If you read a history book you will read a lot about state secret police and state oppression.  It’s more the rule than the exception.  When you grow up in a free country it’s hard to believe this.  And when you’re young you think whatever you know and have experienced is normal.  And that things have always been that way.  Which is why the younger liberals dismiss talk about the transfer of power to the federal government.  While the older conservatives who have seen great change in their lives and know history still fear their government.  While the younger liberals grow up believing that government is not to be feared but to be trusted blindly.  They even look at what China is doing with their economy with approval.  Where the government controls the economy.  They like that.  Because liberals believe we can always trust a government more than a private corporation.  Even if that government oppresses their people.  Like they do in China.  Where people still deal with famine in the country.  Rural workers are paid poorly and live in dormitories in the city factories.  And political dissidents are tortured in labor camps where they manufacture goods without pay.

So naïve liberals trust government.  Completely.  Unless it’s George W. Bush using the Patriot Act.  That they fear.  But when President Obama uses the Patriot Act liberals ask, “The Patriot what?”  When it came to secret wiretaps on people with known ties to terrorists the Left quaked with fear over where these abuses of power would end.  But when President Obama starts talking about gun control they haven’t a care in the world.  Because when it comes to restricting our constitutional rights liberals trust government while fearing Republicans.

People killed 37 Kids with Guns in 2010 while Partial-Birth Abortions have claimed some 2,000 Lives a Year

President Obama’s former Chief of Staff, Rahm Emanuel, said, “You never want a serious crisis to go to waste.”  For the best way to advance an agenda (especially an unpopular agenda) was in the emotional chaos following a serious crisis.  Such as the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary.  The majority of Americans oppose gun control.  But in that majority are some people that they may be able to convince that some restrictions on the Second Amendment is a good thing in the emotional chaos following Sandy Hook Elementary.  Convincing them that guns are causing an epidemic of childhood deaths.  That without guns these kids simply wouldn’t be dying.  A powerful message during emotional times.  But if you remove the emotions and look at some facts you see something different (see 10 Leading Causes of Death, United States by the Centers for Disease Control).

These are deaths by unintentional injury.  Looking at the leading causes of death in 2010 (the latest year of data) for children aged 5-14 you see 1,643 deaths.  About half (809) of those are from motor vehicle accidents.  Drowning came in next at 251 (15.3%).  Then fire/burn at 135 (8.2%).  Then suffocation at 79 (4.8%).  You have to go all the way down to number 7 on the list to get to firearms.  Where we can see they killed 37 children in 2010.  Or 2.3% of the total number of kids aged 5-14 who died from an unintentional injury.  Based on an approximate population of 41 million kids aged 5-14 the total number of kids killed by firearms comes to about 0.00009% of this total.  According to the CDC’s numbers, guns aren’t killing a lot of kids.  Motor vehicles are.  But firearms are not.  So taking away our guns will probably not change these numbers much.  If at all.  So the motive can’t be saving children’s lives.  In fact, one can make the argument that there is a greater killer of children out there than anything on the above list.  Abortion.

It’s hard to get numbers on abortions.  But if you check various sources the number appears to be over a million a year.  Wikipedia shows 1,313,000 abortions in 2000.  Including 2,232 (about 0.17% of all abortions in 2000) that were partial-birth abortions.  Whatever your politics on the abortion issue are one thing regarding partial-birth abortions is clear.  These are human lives.  For the ‘partial’ part of these abortions requires terminating the life of the fetus while the head is still inside of the mother.  For if they terminated the life of the fetus outside of the mother it would be murder according to the law.  And you can’t kill something that isn’t alive.  In fact, an accidental wrongful death of a pregnant woman often results in two charges of manslaughter.  One for the mother.  And one for the unborn fetus.  Assuming there was no spike in partial-birth abortions in 2000 one can assume that number is representative of all years.  Which is far more deaths than by motor vehicle accident let alone from firearms.  Yet President Obama wants gun control to save kids lives.  When he could save even more by simply revising his stance on partial-birth abortion.  Something he argued to keep when a state senator in Illinois.

President Obama’s 2014 State of the Union Address

Posted by PITHOCRATES - January 30th, 2014

Politics 101

Democrats offered Enthusiastic Applause for Unsound Policy Proposals that have no Basis in Reality

President Obama’s 2014 State of the Union address was a little longer than an hour.  But if you didn’t look at a clock it felt a lot longer.  For it was the same tripe you hear all the time from this administration.  And the political left.  It was full of misleading statements.  Inaccurate facts and figures.  And some lies.  The usual stuff you expect from the liberal left.  But what was really disturbing was the enthusiastic applause for some really unsound policy proposals that have no basis in reality.  Showing either how clueless these enthusiastic Democrats are about economics, business, national security, etc.  Or how amoral they are in their quest for power.  As they judge and implement policy not by how it will improve the lives of Americans.  But how it will improve their lives in government.

Some Big Reasons why Businesses export Jobs are Taxes, Regulations and Labor Costs

If there was ever an example of what people not to have in power this state of the union theater was it.  Following are excerpts from President Obama’s speech (see FULL TRANSCRIPT: Obama’s 2014 State of the Union address posted 1/28/2014 on The Washington Post).  Comments and analysis follow each excerpt.

And here are the results of your efforts: the lowest unemployment rate in over five years; a rebounding housing market — (applause) — a manufacturing sector that’s adding jobs for the first time since the 1990s — (applause) — more oil produced — more oil produced at home than we buy from the rest of the world, the first time that’s happened in nearly twenty years — (applause) — our deficits cut by more than half; and for the first time — (applause) — for the first time in over a decade, business leaders around the world have declared that China is no longer the world’s number one place to invest; America is.

The total number of people who left the civilian labor force since President Obama took office is 11,301,000 (see The BLS Employment Situation Summary for December 2013 posted 1/13/2014 on PITHOCRATES).  Which means the unemployment rate is meaningless.  The only reason why it’s falling is that the BLS doesn’t count unemployed people who gave up looking for jobs that just aren’t there.  Oil production on private land may be up.  While overall oil consumption is down because of the Great Recession that just won’t end.  Which is helping to keep gas prices down.  Unemployed people just don’t have the money to buy gas.  So they don’t.  Greatly reducing the demand for gas.  Thus reducing gas prices and oil imports.  George W. Bush’s last deficit was $498.37 billion.  President Obama’s first deficit was $1,539.22 billion.  And it was over $1 trillion in 2010, 2011 and 2012.  It fell to $680 billion in 2013 thanks to the sequester.  But the deficit is larger now than when President Obama assumed office.  The only reduction in the deficit is a reduction in the amount he increased it.

Now, as president, I’m committed to making Washington work better, and rebuilding the trust of the people who sent us here.

Really?  You’re committed to rebuilding the trust of the people?  Mr. “If you like your health insurance you can keep your health insurance.  Period.”  Otherwise known as the lie of the year.  You’re going to rebuild the trust of the people?  Good luck with that.  What with your pants on fire and all.

Today, after four years of economic growth, corporate profits and stock prices have rarely been higher, and those at the top have never done better. But average wages have barely budged. Inequality has deepened. Upward mobility has stalled. The cold, hard fact is that even in the midst of recovery, too many Americans are working more than ever just to get by; let alone to get ahead. And too many still aren’t working at all.

Well, finally something Republicans can agree with the president about.  Yes, his economic policies have benefitted Wall Street.  While hurting Main Street.  Finally some bipartisan agreement.

So let’s make that decision easier for more companies. Both Democrats and Republicans have argued that our tax code is riddled with wasteful, complicated loopholes that punish businesses investing here, and reward companies that keep profits abroad. Let’s flip that equation. Let’s work together to close those loopholes, end those incentives to ship jobs overseas, and lower tax rates for businesses that create jobs right here at home. (Cheers, applause.)

There are only a few reasons why businesses export jobs.  And the big three are taxes, regulations and labor costs.  The Obama administration wants to raise taxes.  They’ve increased regulatory costs.  And they support costly union labor.  So everything they stand for encourages businesses to export jobs.

But — but I’ll act on my own to slash bureaucracy and streamline the permitting process for key projects, so we can get more construction workers on the job as fast as possible. (Applause.)

So how’s that approval for the Keystone XL pipeline coming along?  That thing you’ve been studying since 2010?  Which by the laws of arithmetic is approximately 4 years ago.  Is this slashing bureaucracy and streamlining the permitting process?  At this rate it would probably be quicker to elect a Republican president in 2016.  You know, someone who, when it comes to economic activity, walks it while the Democrats only talk it.

We also have the chance, right now, to beat other countries in the race for the next wave of high-tech manufacturing jobs. And my administration’s launched two hubs for high-tech manufacturing in Raleigh, North Carolina, and Youngstown, Ohio, where we’ve connected businesses to research universities that can help America lead the world in advanced technologies.

Universities are in the grant business.  They want as many grants as they can get to help bring money into the university.  And to do so they will study anything the government wants them to.  No matter how wasteful it is.  While some of the biggest high-tech companies started in garages.  Apple, Google, Hewlett Packard and Microsoft.  To name a few.  Yes, there is a lot of university-driven research.  But the big innovation is more entrepreneurial.  Created by people thinking up new stuff no one thought of yet.  Which is the last thing you want government involved in.  That same government that can’t build a website using 1990s technology.

Let’s do more to help the entrepreneurs and small business owners who create most new jobs in America. Over the past five years, my administration has made more loans to small business owners than any other. And when 98 percent of our exporters are small businesses, new trade partnerships with Europe and the Asia-Pacific will help them create even more jobs. We need to work together on tools like bipartisan trade promotion authority to protect our workers, protect our environment and open new markets to new goods stamped “Made in the USA.” (Applause.)

You want to help entrepreneurs and small business?  Get rid of Obamacare.  And slash tax rates.  This will provide incentive.  And allow them to reinvest more of their earnings to grow their business.  Allowing them to create those jobs.

Now, one of the biggest factors in bringing more jobs back is our commitment to American energy. The “all the above” energy strategy I announced a few years ago is working, and today America is closer to energy independence than we have been in decades. (Applause.)

‘All of the above’ as long as it isn’t coal, oil or nuclear.  But if it’s solar power and wind power they are committed to giving more tax dollars to their friends and bundlers in the green energy industry.

Meanwhile, my administration will keep working with the industry to sustain production and jobs growth while strengthening protection of our air, our water, our communities. And while we’re at it, I’ll use my authority to protect more of our pristine federal lands for future generations. (Applause.)

You can’t sustain production and jobs growth by strengthening protection of our air, water and pristine federal lands.  That’s just more regulatory costs.  And raising energy costs by not allowing any oil or natural gas production on those pristine federal lands.  Raising energy costs by restricting supply.  Which raises business costs.  In addition to those new regulatory costs.

Every four minutes another American home or business goes solar, every panel pounded into place by a worker whose job can’t be outsourced. Let’s continue that progress with a smarter tax policy that stops giving $4 billion a year to fossil fuel industries that don’t need it so we can invest more in fuels of the future that do. (Cheers, applause.)

That says it all.  Fossil fuels don’t need subsidies because their costs are affordable.  While solar (and wind power) are so costly that they are unaffordable.  Unless government heavily subsidizes them.

But the debate is settled. Climate change is a fact. (Applause.) And when our children’s children look us in the eye and ask if we did all we could to leave them a safer, more stable world, with new sources of energy, I want us to be able to say yes, we did. (Cheers, applause.)

There is no such thing as settled science.  Only science that has yet to be disproved.  Besides, once upon a time glaciers stretched down from the poles to near the equator.  And then receded back to where they are now.  All without any manmade carbon in the atmosphere to warm the planet.  As we were still simple hunter and gatherers then.  So if the glaciers moved more before there was manmade global warming they’ll move again regardless of what man is doing to warm the planet.

Finally, if we’re serious about economic growth, it is time to heed the call of business leaders, labor leaders, faith leaders, law enforcement — and fix our broken immigration system. (Cheers, applause.) Republicans and Democrats in the Senate have acted, and I know that members of both parties in the House want to do the same. Independent economists say immigration reform will grow our economy and shrink our deficits by almost $1 trillion in the next two decades. And for good reason: When people come here to fulfill their dreams — to study, invent, contribute to our culture — they make our country a more attractive place for businesses to locate and create jobs for everybody. So let’s get immigration reform done this year. (Cheers, applause.) Let’s get it done. It’s time.

Funny how that argument doesn’t apply to birth control and abortion.  The reason we need to “fix our broken immigration system.”  For if we were having babies at the rate when government created the welfare state we could pay for that welfare state today.  But thanks to the Sixties, birth control, abortion and feminism women stopped having babies.  Which is fine if a woman doesn’t want to.  But the progressives designed the welfare state based on them being baby machines.  Creating a greater number of taxpayers with each generation.  So more people pay into the welfare state than collect from it.  The way it must be for a Ponzi scheme to work.

That’s why I’ve been asking CEOs to give more long-term unemployed workers a fair shot at new jobs, a new chance to support their families. And in fact, this week many will come to the White House to make that commitment real.

When you raise the cost of labor (union labor, Obamacare, etc.) businesses tend to look at automating production instead of hiring that costly labor.  They may not be able to do anything about the higher regulatory costs but they can do something about higher labor costs.  Use more machines than people.  If you want CEOs to create new jobs stop making labor so costly.  And you can start with getting rid of Obamacare.

Of course, it’s not enough to train today’s workforce. We also have to prepare tomorrow’s workforce, by guaranteeing every child access to a world-class education. (Applause.)…

Five years ago we set out to change the odds for all our kids. We worked with lenders to reform student loans, and today more young people are earning college degrees than ever before. Race to the Top, with the help of governors from both parties, has helped states raise expectations and performance. Teachers and principals in schools from Tennessee to Washington, D.C., are making big strides in preparing students with the skills for the new economy — problem solving, critical thinking, science, technology, engineering, math.

Yes, more kids are going to college than ever before.  But they’re going there to have fun.  And to facilitate their fun many are getting easy, worthless degrees in the social sciences and humanities.  Costly degrees that universities sold them promising them future riches.  Enriching the university.  While impoverishing their graduates.  For a high-tech company has no use for these degrees.  Which is why a lot of these people end up in jobs they didn’t need that costly degree to do.  And our high-tech companies are using the visa program to get foreigners who have the skills they want.  Problem solving, critical thinking, science, technology, engineering and math.

It requires everything from more challenging curriculums and more demanding parents to better support for teachers and new ways to measure how well our kids think, not how well they can fill in a bubble on a test. But it is worth it — and it is working.

If you want kids to do better we need to champion marriage and family more.  And they should embrace religion a little more.  Instead of encouraging our young women to use birth control and abortion to avoid marriage and family.  And pulling every last vestige of religion from our lives.  Kids growing up in a household with a mother and a father who go to church do far better on average than kids growing up in a single-parent household and don’t go to church (see Strong families steeped in Conservative Values and Traditions do Well in America posted 1/11/2014 on PITHOCRATES).

Research shows that one of the best investments we can make in a child’s life is high-quality early education. (Applause.) Last year, I asked this Congress to help states make high-quality pre-K available to every 4-year-old. And as a parent as well as a president, I repeat that request tonight.

Actually, research doesn’t show that.  Yet they keep saying that.  For it’s like that line in the musical Evita, “Get them while they’re young, Evita.  Get them while they’re young.”  The sooner they can take them away from their parents the sooner they can start turning them into Democrat voters.  Such as teaching them to blame their parents for the manmade global warming that is killing the polar bears as they have no ice to rest on while eating their baby seals.

You know, today, women make up about half our workforce, but they still make 77 cents for every dollar a man earns. That is wrong, and in 2014, it’s an embarrassment.

Women deserve equal pay for equal work. (Cheers, applause.)

Actually, it’s closer to 91 cents (see The White House’s use of data on the gender wage gap by Glenn Kessler posted 6/5/2012 on The Washington Post).  And the small difference is not due to discrimination but personal choice.  When you look at aggregate wages women will make less than men.  Because more women are teachers (with 3 month off without pay) than men are.  Some women work fewer hours at work to spend more time with their children. While men tend to work more overtime.  Men also work the more dangerous and higher paying jobs.  And are more likely to belong to a union.  When you compare childless, single men and women with a college degree some women are actually earning more than men.  Figures don’t lie but liars figure.  And for the contortions the Obama administration did here The Washington Post’s The Fact Checker gave the president one Pinocchio.

Now, women hold a majority of lower-wage jobs, but they’re not the only ones stifled by stagnant wages. Americans understand that some people will earn more money than others, and we don’t resent those who, by virtue of their efforts, achieve incredible success. That’s what America’s all about. But Americans overwhelmingly agree that no one who works full-time should ever have to raise a family in poverty. (Applause.)

In the year since I asked this Congress to raise the minimum wage, five states have passed laws to raise theirs.

You’re not going to have a lot of upward mobility when you pay people more to remain in the jobs they hate.  All the talk about making college more affordable and bringing employers and community colleges together to help give people the skills they need to fill the jobs employers have is all for nothing if they just pay people more for doing an entry-level job.

Let’s do more to help Americans save for retirement. Today most workers don’t have a pension. A Social Security check often isn’t enough on its own. And while the stock market has doubled over the last five years, that doesn’t help folks who don’t have 401(k)s. That’s why tomorrow I will direct the Treasury to create a new way for working Americans to start their own retirement savings: MyRA. It’s a — it’s a new savings bond that encourages folks to build a nest egg.

Once upon a time people opened a savings account at their local bank and they saved to buy a house.  And they saved for their retirement.  That’s how people saved when they didn’t have a pension or a 401(k).  They can’t do that today because of the Federal Reserve destroying the banking industry by keeping interest rates at zero.  If the Fed stopped printing money and let investment capital come from our savings like they did before the Keynesians gave us the Federal Reserve people would be saving like we once did.  And we’d stop having Great Depressions, stagflation and Great Recessions.  Created by their prolonging the growth side of the business cycle.  Which raises prices higher than they normally would go.  Making the contraction side of the business cycle that much more painful.  As those prices have a much longer way to fall than they normally would.  Thanks to the Fed’s meddling with interest rates.

MyRA guarantees a decent return with no risk of losing what you put in. And if this Congress wants to help, work with me to fix an upside-down tax code that gives big tax breaks to help the wealthy save, but does little or nothing for middle-class Americans, offer every American access to an automatic IRA on the job, so they can save at work just like everybody in this chamber can.

You know why they want these MyRAs?  Because they can’t stand people saving money.  They love Social Security.  Because they can borrow from the Social Security Trust Fund.  Which is what they will do with these MyRAs.  They will take this money and spend it.  Filling the MyRA Trust Fund with a bunch of IOUs.  Just like they do with the Social Security Trust Fund.  And then provide a retirement benefit like Social Security.  That is too small to live on.  Whereas if we saved the money ourselves our retirement nest-egg will be much larger.  And it will provide for our retirement.  Unlike Social Security.

And since the most important investment many families make is their home, send me legislation that protects taxpayers from footing the bill for a housing crisis ever again, and keeps the dream of homeownership alive for future generations. (Applause.)

It was Bill Clinton that set the stage for the subprime mortgage crisis with his Policy Statement on Discrimination in Lending (see Bill Clinton created the subprime mortgage crisis with his Policy Statement on Discrimination in Lending posted 11/6/2011 on PITHOCRATES).  Using the heavy hand of government to get lenders to qualify the unqualified.  Then the Fed’s artificially low interest rates were the bait for the trap.  Enticing people to borrow huge sums of money because those interest rates were just too good to pass up.  Even if they weren’t planning to buy a house to begin with. The subprime mortgage crisis and the resulting Great Recession were government made.  If we want to prevent the taxpayers from footing the bill for another housing crisis we need to get the Keynesians out of government.

Already, because of the Affordable Care Act, more than 3 million Americans under age 26 have gained coverage under their parents’ plans. (Applause.)

More than 9 million Americans have signed up for private health insurance or Medicaid coverage — 9 million. (Applause.)

The Washington Post gave this lie three Pinocchios (see Warning: Ignore claims that 3.9 million people signed up for Medicaid because of Obamacare by Glenn Kessler posted 1/16/2014 on The Washington Post).  For they’re counting some 3.9 million who would have signed up anyway for Medicaid regardless of the Affordable Care Act.  Also, the government was counting people who put a health care plan into their shopping cart as if they signed up for it.  Which many couldn’t.  As they haven’t programmed the back end of the health care website yet to actually accept payment or to pass that information on to the insurers.

And here’s another number: zero. Because of this law, no American, none, zero, can ever again be dropped or denied coverage for a pre-existing condition like asthma or back pain or cancer. (Cheers, applause.) No woman can ever be charged more just because she’s a woman. (Cheers, applause.) And we did all this while adding years to Medicare’s finances, keeping Medicare premiums flat and lowering prescription costs for millions of seniors.

That’s right.  Women with reproductive systems that men don’t have won’t pay more for their health insurance than men pay for theirs.  How can they do that?  Simple.  They just are charging men more.  To cover the cost of a reproductive system they don’t have.

Citizenship means standing up for the lives that gun violence steals from us each day. I have seen the courage of parents, students, pastors, and police officers all over this country who say “we are not afraid,” and I intend to keep trying, with or without Congress, to help stop more tragedies from visiting innocent Americans in our movie theaters and our shopping malls, or schools like Sandy Hook. (Applause.)

If you take away guns from law-abiding gun owners that won’t keep dangerous people with mental health issues that want to harm people out of our movie theaters, our shopping malls or schools like Sandy Hook.  For there are other ways to harm people.  Just look at the Boston Marathon bombers.  The people he’s talking about not only had mental health issues but they were also smart.  Many were even college students.  Who probably could think of other ways to hurt people.  And you just can’t take away everything they might use to harm people.  But you can place these people somewhere where they can’t harm anyone.

You see, in a world of complex threats, our security, our leadership depends on all elements of our power — including strong and principled diplomacy. American diplomacy has rallied more than 50 countries to prevent nuclear materials from falling into the wrong hands, and allowed us to reduce our own reliance on Cold War stockpiles.

Since President Obama assumed office he did nothing to support the Green Revolution in Iran.  Which kept the hard-line Islamists in power there.  He gave Egypt to the Muslim Brotherhood by telling Hosni Mubarak that he had to go.  Removing the stable anchor of the Middle East.  And moved Egypt closer to Iran.  (The Egyptian people eventually rose up to overthrow the oppressive Muslim Brotherhood).  He went to war in Libya and helped to overthrow Colonel Muammar Qaddafi.  Who at the time was a quasi ally in the War on Terror.  After the Iraq invasion frightened him into believing he may be next.  President Obama was thanked for his Libyan war by al Qaeda with 4 dead Americans in Benghazi on the anniversary of 9/11.  He waited too long to act in the Syrian civil war.  Which only brought al Qaeda into the conflict.  He failed to attain a status of forces agreement in Iraq.  So he pulled all U.S. forces out of Iraq which has only invited al Qaeda in.  And it looks like this will be repeated in Afghanistan.  He blamed George W. Bush’s wars as recruitment tools for al Qaeda.  While his extensive drone use is doing the same thing.  Especially in Yemen.  The hotbed of al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula.  All that his diplomacy and leadership has done was to make the world a more dangerous place.

American diplomacy, backed by the threat of force, is why Syria’s chemical weapons are being eliminated. (Applause.) And we will continue to work with the international community to usher in the future the Syrian people deserve — a future free of dictatorship, terror and fear.

His diplomacy with Bashar al-Assad in Syria only gave his oppressive regime legitimacy in the civil war he was raging against his people.  Making it easier for Assad to kill Syrians with conventional arms while he gives up a token amount of his chemical weapons.  While also making Russia who brokered the deal the dominate player in the region.

And it is American diplomacy, backed by pressure, that has halted the progress of Iran’s nuclear program — and rolled back parts of that program — for the very first time in a decade. As we gather here tonight, Iran has begun to eliminate its stockpile of higher levels of enriched uranium.

It’s not installing advanced centrifuges. Unprecedented inspections help the world verify every day that Iran is not building a bomb. And with our allies and partners, we’re engaged in negotiations to see if we can peacefully achieve a goal we all share: preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon. (Applause.)

All Iran is doing is pausing their program.  And chemically altering some of their enriched uranium to meet the requirements of this diplomatic deal.  But this chemical process is reversible.  And they will reverse it once they get what they want.  This deal makes the world no safer.  If anything it makes it more dangerous.  For it does not diminish the Iranian nuclear program in the least.  But gives them more time to work on it as they prop up their regime with much needed supplies thanks to a relaxation of the sanctions against them.

These negotiations will be difficult; they may not succeed. We are clear-eyed about Iran’s support for terrorist organizations like Hezbollah, which threaten our allies; and we’re clear about the mistrust between our nations, mistrust that cannot be wished away. But these negotiations don’t rely on trust; any long-term deal we agree to must be based on verifiable action that convinces us and the international community that Iran is not building a nuclear bomb. If John F. Kennedy and Ronald Reagan could negotiate with the Soviet Union, then surely a strong and confident America can negotiate with less powerful adversaries today. (Applause.)

The sanctions that we put in place helped make this opportunity possible. But let me be clear: if this Congress sends me a new sanctions bill now that threatens to derail these talks, I will veto it. (Applause.) For the sake of our national security, we must give diplomacy a chance to succeed.

The Soviet Union never attacked U.S. soil.  And there was a reason they didn’t.  They were rational.  And knew they would lose a great deal in a war with America.  Especially a nuclear one.  Which is why they never used their nuclear weapons.  But Iran giving a nuclear weapon to a shadowy group that is not a state?  With little to lose in using a nuclear weapon?  If it’s not a nuclear missile there will be no way in knowing where the nuclear bomb came from.  We can have our suspicions that Iran made it and gave it to someone.  But do we nuke Iran over that?  What if there are more nukes in the hands of al Qaeda, Hezbollah, al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, etc.?  You could nuke Iran back to the Stone Age but it won’t stop those others being used.  The president insists this will not happen as Iran signed an agreement.  The only problem with that is the Iranians are liars.  And they call the United States the Great Satan.   These two facts suggest that replacing those sanctions with a promise not to build nuclear bombs was probably not a wise trade.

But for more than two hundred years, we have put those things aside and placed our collective shoulder to the wheel of progress: to create and build and expand the possibilities of individual achievement; to free other nations from tyranny and fear; to promote justice and fairness and equality under the law, so that the words set to paper by our founders are made real for every citizen.

Use our collective shoulder to expand individual achievement?  The president believes in the former more than the latter.  He didn’t help the Iranians get free from tyranny when he had the chance.  And he turned the Egyptian people over to tyranny.  The Muslim Brotherhood.  Who were oppressing women and Christians.  Fairness and equality under the law?  Ask those Tea Party groups who were targeted by the IRS about fairness and equality under the law.  The Constitution?  That document of negative rights?  The left hates it.  And insists it’s a living document that can evolve over time to suit the needs of an expanding government.  So they can do exactly what the Founding Fathers wrote the Constitution to prevent from happening.

The Left endorses Unsound Policy Proposals with no Basis in Reality to improve their Chances of Winning Elections

The country is more conservative than liberal (see Liberal Self-Identification Edges Up to New High in 2013 by Jeffrey M. Jones posted 1/10/2014 on Gallup).  Which is why liberals want state-funded pre-K to start indoctrinating our children as soon as possible.  To get them away from their parents so they can begin the process of turning them into Democrat voters.  It’s why kids are getting worthless social science and humanities degrees.  To further indoctrinate them.  Because their views are minority views.  So they need to play loose with the facts.  And lie.  Which is easier to do with indoctrinated kids than educated adults.  You’ll even hear Democrats talk about lowering the voting age.  To get a few more years of voting out of these kids before they grow old and wise.  And begin voting conservative.  So they do what they can to dumb down education.  Lie.  Cheat.  And buy as many votes as they can by giving away free stuff.  And the thing they really want to give away is citizenship for illegal aliens.  Who they are sure will be forever grateful.  And show it by voting Democrat.

This explains the enthusiastic applause for unsound policy proposals that have no basis in reality.  For the left is not interested in improving the lives of Americans.  They just want to improve their chances of winning elections.

Democrats push for Gun Control Legislation despite Fall in Gun Crime

Posted by PITHOCRATES - September 21st, 2013

Week in Review

The left hates guns.  They want to take away our guns.  And repeal the Second Amendment.  Which is why they exploit every tragedy that involves a gun that they can.  (Except for the horrible gun crimes in Chicago that rarely receive any media attention.)  To foment anti-gun sentiment.  And it’s been working.  For the America people believe that gun crime is out of control (see Mass shootings are up; gun murders down posted 9/21/2013 on The Economist).

On September 16th a former navy reservist, Aaron Alexis, shot 12 people dead at a military base in Washington, DC. Though rare, such tragedies are increasingly common in America. The past 30 years have seen 67 mass shootings (in which four or more people were killed by a gunman not involved in a conventional crime), says Mother Jones magazine. There have already been five this year, after seven last year. Massacres grab headlines, and so may explain why many Americans believe, incorrectly, that gun crime is on the rise. In fact, gun murders have fallen by half in the past 20 years.

In 2012 there were about 500 people shot to death in Chicago.  Which receives scant news coverage.  But every time there is a mass shooting (Sandy Hook, Aurora, Tucson, Virginia Tech) it is not only front-page news but there are calls for new gun control legislation.  Because gun crime is out of control in America.  This is the narrative.  And why the left loves mass-shootings.  For it inflames the people to perhaps accept something they don’t want in the heat of the moment.  Further gun control legislation.

But gun crime is not out of control.  Apart from the Democrat-controlled Chicago.  Actual “gun murders have fallen by half in the past 20 years.”  Despite Sandy Hook, Aurora, Tucson, Virginia Tech.  But you wouldn’t know that listening to the Democrats.  As they are apparently lying to the American people to take away our guns.  Which begs the question.  Why?  If gun crime is actually falling then why do they want to take away our guns?

The Left is using the Washington Navy Yard Shooting to Revive the Gun Control Debate

Posted by PITHOCRATES - September 19th, 2013

Politics 101

Gun Crimes often involve an Anti-Social Gamer who lacks Empathy for their Victims

There was another terrible thing that happened.  Depending on where you get your news from you might have gotten one of two general headlines.  You either saw/heard something along the lines of “Another failure in our mental health system leaves dangerous man among the public—kills 12 at the Washington Navy Yard.”  Or you saw/heard something like “AR-15 assault rifle responsible for yet another senseless massacre—people demand comprehensive gun control legislation.”

You probably can guess that the left-leaning media ran the AR-15 headline.  Who blames guns for all gun-violence.  Never the people pulling the triggers.  Whereas the media without a political agenda will have noted the failure in our mental health system as a greater concern for the safety of Americans.  As all of the gun massacres the left points to as proof that we need comprehensive gun control legislation have a common denominator.  The shooters all suffered from mental health issues.

Adam Lanza suffered from some personality disorder (perhaps Asperger disorder).  He was anti-social and played violent video games alone in the basement.  His disorder may have left him unable to feel empathy for other people.  That and the world of gaming where he killed over and over may have allowed him to feel nothing as he gunned down 20 children and 6 adults at Sandy Hook Elementary School.  Someone should have institutionalized Lambert.  For he was the danger.  Not the guns.  He chose the gun because that’s what he used in his video games.  But if there was no gun available he may have done something else.  For he was a smart kid.  An honors student.  And he was 20 years old.  He could have used a car to run people down like in one of those video games.

In the Worst of Gun Crimes the Left focuses on the Guns and not the Mentally Unsound Shooters

Before Sandy Hook a mentally disturbed James Holms killed 12 and wounded some 70 more in the 2012 Aurora theater shooting.  Before that a mentally disturbed Jared Loughner killed 6 and wounded 12 in a Tucson supermarket parking lot (2011).  Before that a mentally disturbed Seung-Hui Cho killed 32 and wounded 17 at Virginia Tech (2007).  All of these shooters had some serious mental health issues.  Some had been treated.  Some should have been treated.  And they probably should all have been institutionalized before their shootings.

But they weren’t.  In fact, some parents today are at their wits’ end when they have a family member that may be a danger to the general public.  But there’s nothing they can do.  For today you can’t just institutionalize people like we once did.  Because of civil liberties.  Which is a good thing.  To those who may have been wrongly institutionalized.  But it leaves those that should be out on the street.  Where they must first do something to be committed.  Like Sandy Hook, Aurora, Tucson, Virginia Tech, etc.  Then and only then can we remove these people from our streets.

Yet in the worst of these gun crimes the left focuses on the guns.  Not the shooters.  It’s not the people pulling the triggers.  But the triggers.  And they claim that if we remove the triggers we’ll remove this crime. Despite these mentally unsound people still being on the streets.  Who are in most cases very smart people.  And highly educated.  Who could probably figure out a way to get a gun if we had repealed the Second Amendment.  Or think of some other creative way to kill their innocent victims.

The Left blamed the AR-15 for the Washington Navy Yard Shooting instead of our Failed Mental Health System

So why does the left do this?  Well, because they want to take away our guns.  Why?  One can only guess.  They are generally anti-capitalists and would like to turn the United States into a more socialist country.  Like they’ve done with our health care.  Does the left want to do more than just make America a social democracy?  Other countries that had a political party/leader that went on to oppress their people often started by taking away people’s guns.  Because if they didn’t the people may just fight back.  And the last thing any dictator wants is a civil war like there is currently in Syria.

Is this why the left wants to take away our guns?  Who knows.  But it makes one wonder.  Especially when we see they can barely contain their glee whenever another mentally unsound person goes on a shooting spree.  So they can revive the gun control debate.  Which they have to revive as the polls clearly show the American people don’t put repealing the Second Amendment high on their wish list.  No, what they want is a better economy.  A job.  A safer world to live in where they don’t have to worry about their kids getting hurt or killed by an improvised explosive device while attending a marathon.  But the left focuses on the guns.

As they were still looking for potential shooters at the Washington Navy Yard the left was already reporting that it was yet another gun-crime made with that hated of all assault rifles.  The dreaded AR-15.  Everyone on the left was reporting this with glee.  Hoping to revive the talk about comprehensive gun control.  There was only one problem.  This mentally disturbed person did not use an AR-15.  He used a type of weapon Vice President Joe Biden recommended women get instead of a handgun for their personal protection.  A shotgun.  Even though they got the facts wrong it didn’t change the narrative.  The left blamed the AR-15 anyway and called for an assault rifle ban.  Without a word about our failed mental health system.  That allows mentally unsound people to wander among us where they can do great harm.  Because locking up mentally unsound people pays no political dividends.  While allowing them to remain on the street does.  Especially if they get their hands on an AR-15.

A 15-Year-Old stabs his 10-Year Old and 4-Year-Old Brothers to Death

Posted by PITHOCRATES - May 26th, 2013

Week in Review

With the Sandy Hook shooting, the Aurora theater shooting, the Tucson shooting, the Virginia Tech shooting, etc., the focus has been on the shooting.  Not the shooter.  The left is using these mass murders to advance gun control legislation.  Instead of addressing the mental health problems common to the shooters.  The focus is on the guns.  And nothing but the guns.  While people with mental health problems fall through the cracks.  Like that 13-year-old who tried to rape then killed his mother for taking away his videogame.  Who appeared to be well along in his mental health problems.  And then there’s this 15-year-old who was apparently just beginning his descent into mental health problems (see Utah boy, 15, arrested in stabbing deaths of brothers, 10 and 4 by Michael Mello posted 5/24/2013 on the Los Angeles Times).

“He’s an honor student, highly intelligent and never been in trouble with the law,” Poulsen told the Los Angeles Times. “According to the neighbors, he’s a little quiet, but they’re a great family.”

Late Wednesday afternoon, the suspect’s mother left him home to watch his 10-year-old and 4-year-old brothers while she took the family’s four other children to run errands. She returned two hours later, Poulsen said, and called 911 when she found the 4-year-old dead on the floor.

Deputies who arrived at the home found the 10-year-old’s body in the basement, but could not find the 15-year-old. Several local law enforcement agencies combed the area for the boy, and found him around midnight in a neighboring town about eight miles away.

We don’t know much about this yet but there may have been signs of mental health problems that people just missed.  Because it is usually a progression of withdrawal and isolation and a change in behavior before things like this happen.  Adam Lanza spent all his time playing violent videogames alone in the basement before shooting his mother and the Sandy Hook students.  James Holmes was working on his Ph.D. when he started doing poorly in his academic work and talked about wanting to kill people to a physiatrist before the Aurora theater shooting.  Jared Loughner’s strange behavior got him expelled from college before the Tucson shooting.  Seung-Hui Cho’s mental health problems were well documented before the Virginia Tech shooting.  Yet we missed these signs and failed to prevent these horrible acts.  Just as we may have missed some signs with this 15-year-old.  Because we’re still trying to push gun control legislation.  Instead of trying to address mental health issues that drive people to mass murder.

Guns have been a common factor in some of these crimes.  While mental health problems have been a common factor in all of them.  So it doesn’t appear to be the guns.  It’s the mental health problems.  For here we have another instance of some unsound person killing people.  But this one killed without a gun.  Perhaps we could have prevented this if the focus was on mental health.  And not the NRA.

Rise in Gun Ownership and Concealed Weapons Permits result in Decline in Gun Violence

Posted by PITHOCRATES - May 11th, 2013

Week in Review

President Obama and the Democrats were furious over the defeat of proposed gun control legislation in the Senate.  Which is controlled by the Democrats.  But enough of the Senate Democrats broke ranks and voted with the Republicans.  Why?  Well, unlike President Obama, a lot of those Senate Democrats will be running in another election in 2014.  And they come from states that don’t believe the Democrats’ lie about out of control gun violence killing more of our kids than ever.  And why do they believe this?  Because contrary to popular belief gun violence has been falling for the last two decades (see With gun violence down, is America arming against an imagined threat? (+video) by Patrik Jonsson posted 5/8/2013 on The Christian Science Monitor).

As part of a broader trend of declining crime, gun violence in America – while still high relative to other Western countries – has dropped by 49 percent from 1993 to 2011, while nonfatal gun crimes dropped by 69 percent, according to the US Justice Department.

But that slow-motion decline in Americans turning guns on each other has failed to register with most people, only 12 percent of whom answered the question correctly when asked by the Pew Research Center in a poll released Tuesday. Some 56 percent of respondents said they believed that gun violence had actually increased over the last 20 years.

The reasons for the perception gap are manifold, including a steady stream of high profile shootings and massacres, an increased focus on crime by national media and cable networks, and partisan sniping about gun politics. But the gap is so huge, agrees D’Vera Cohn, a senior writer at Pew, in an AP interview, that it’s hard to explain…

Since 1993, the rate of gun violence dropped by the greatest degree in the 1990s and has stayed relatively stable since the early 2000s. But recent years have witnessed a dramatic shift in US gun culture, with millions of Americans getting certified to carry concealed weapons and women increasingly joining the ranks of gun owners.

An estimated 8 million Americans now have concealed weapons permits, and thousands wear guns openly in the 43 states that allow it. Atlanta Police Chief George Turner told the Monitor recently that urban police no longer automatically assume a citizen wearing a gun is in the process of committing a crime, as they did just a few years ago.

Gun ownership has increased.  The number of people carrying concealed weapons has increased.  And gun crime has decreased.  Hmm.  What could possible explain the fall in gun violence?  It’s a mystery all right.

The Democrats and their allies in the mainstream media have convinced 56% of the people that gun violence has increased these past two decades when it hasn’t.  But why would the Democrats do this?  And why would they push for gun control legislation when it appears more gun ownership actually makes it safer in the United States?  For some reason they are just hell-bent on getting rid of the Second Amendment.

Here’s something to consider.  What do people like Adam Lanza (Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting), James Holmes (Aurora theater shooting), Jared Loughner (Tucson supermarket parking lot shooting) and Seung-Hui Cho (Virginia Tech Shooting) have in common?  They shot unarmed men, women and children.  People who couldn’t shoot back.  Imagine if James Holmes picked a theater in Atlanta.  And how fast people would have returned his fire.  Sure, some will argue that they may have shot innocent people in the process of stopping a homicidal maniac.  But would they have killed 12 and wounded 58?  Probably not.  In fact, chances are that James Holmes probably never would have started shooting people in an Atlanta theater.  Because he would know that someone in that theater could shoot back.  Which is the last thing these people want.  Which is why they pick unarmed people to shoot.  And they don’t stop shooting until someone arrives on the scene with a gun.

Guns didn’t make these people kill.  They were all suffering from mental health problems.  They picked guns perhaps because they enjoyed those violent video games so much.  But here’s something else to consider.  These people were pretty smart.  All but one was attending or had attended college.  Who knows what kind of evil genius they might have turned into.  And what other weapon they may have chosen.  Or built.  Such as a bomb.  For one thing we’ve learned from the Boston Marathon bombing is that college kids can build bombs.  So we’d probably be better off trying to do something about our mental health system instead of trying to get rid of the Second Amendment.  For had we heeded the warning signs and taken these people off the streets Sandy Hook, Aurora, Tucson and Virginia Tech would not have happened.  That’s for certain.  But would banning guns have stopped these mentally troubled people from harming others?  Probably not.  For we can never be certain what these people would have done if we had left them on the streets walking among us even if there were no guns for them to use.

13-Year Old tried to Rape Mother then Killed Her in a Fit of Rage for taking away his Call of Duty Videogame

Posted by PITHOCRATES - May 5th, 2013

Week in Review

The Sandy Hook shooting, the Aurora movie theater shooting, the Tucson shooting (Representative Gabrielle Giffords) and the Virginia Tech shooting have one common element.  The shooters all suffered from mental health problems.  They weren’t radical conservatives.  They weren’t militia members.  They were not in the Tea Party.  These shooters didn’t commit their atrocities because of guns.  They went on these shooting sprees because our mental health system didn’t take these dangerous people off of the streets before they could harm innocent bystanders.  And what have we done since Sandy Hook?  Tried to pass gun control legislation.  Instead of fixing the problems of our mental health system.  And because of that we still miss warning signs.  And a 13-year old does this (see Noah Crooks reportedly tried to rape mother before killing her by Chelsea Hoffman posted 5/4/2013 on the Examiner).

The tragic death of his mother was gruesome, but the details being shared by multiple sources paint a picture of a deeply troubled teen who may continue to be a danger to society. The WFC Courier reports that two of the teen’s friends testified that his “behavior had changed” prior to the death of his mother. One friend testified that Crooks became aggressive suddenly…

Multiple reports are varied, but this source claims that the incident may have stemmed from his mother Gretchen Crooks taking away his Call of Duty video game. His lawyers are trying to prove that he suffers from intermittent explosive disorder — which can be a violent mental disorder. If this young man truly suffers from this affliction, he needs quality mental help away from society where he cannot be a danger to others.

Noah Crooks reportedly shot his mother at least 21 times with his .22 rifle after trying to rape her unsuccessfully. This horrific story is shockingly similar to incidents in the life of serial killer Edmund Kemper — who is murdered several coeds in the 1970s. Prior to his stint as a serial killer and necrophiliac, Edmund Kemper shot his grandparents at the age of 15 with his own hunting rifle. He did a short amount of time in a mental institution but was released back to society just in time for his body to fully mature as a young man. After Kemper murdered several college girls he ended his murder spree by murdering his mom and sexually assaulting her body. Kemper is now serving life behind bars in Calif., but what will come to be of this young man?

There were signs there that something was changing with this kid.  Former classmates provided testimony in court that Noah Crooks would occasionally stab other students with pencils.  A red flag if there was ever one.  Still, one wonders what they would have done if they had acted.  Would they have locked him up in an institution?  His mental illness was so new that his mother probably would have fought that.  Unaware of how fast he could get so violent.

Would this have happened if there was no gun in the house?  Well, he tried to rape her before he shot her.  So the assault would have started.  And if he was lost in a fit of rage he could have used another weapon.  Like a knife.  A blunt object.  Or his hands.  So the crime probably would have happened even without the gun.

Was the videogame to blame?  Well, if he didn’t have one it wouldn’t have been there to take away.  Sending him into that fit of rage.  But did it make him violent?  It is a violent game.  Adam Lanza, the Sandy Hook Shooter, had a spreadsheet of videogame scoring.  And may have been living a videogame scenario during his shooting.  But it doesn’t appear that Crooks planned his attack.  So it is unclear if the game had any influence in this crime.  Which really leaves mental health as the most likely cause.

As his behavior is shockingly similar to a serial killer who did similar things the state should look long and hard at his mental health and do what’s necessary to prevent this kid from maturing into something worse.  Instead of trying to pass new gun control legislation.  One has to wonder what might have happened in the Crooks home that day if they reformed the mental health system to better identify these early warning signs.  Perhaps building new mental hospitals to incarcerate the mentally ill.

Just think what might have been in place if they did this after Sandy Hook.  After Aurora.  After Tucson.  After Virginia Tech.  Which happened in April of 2007.  About 5 years before Crooks tried to rape then killed his mother.  If they had they may even have been able to stop at least one of these other massacres.  But, instead, all we’ve done since Virginia Tech is talk about the need for new gun control legislation.  Which has shifted attention away from something far more important.  Identifying these people who are a danger to others due to their mental health problems.  And getting them off of the streets before they can do harm to others.

The Left Politicizes Atrocities to Attack Conservatives

Posted by PITHOCRATES - April 18th, 2013

Politics 101

Democrats Quickly Politicized the Boston Marathon Bombings to attack Conservatives

What’s the difference between conservatives and liberals?  Well, for one, they respond to horrific tragedies differently.  Conservatives are sickened and saddened.  While liberals salivate with a potential opportunity to blame conservatives for these horrific events.  Which they are quick to do.  Even before the dead are identified and laid to rest.  As we can see in the Boston marathon bombings.

We don’t know anything yet.  But the media has been reporting on what we don’t know 24 hours a day since the bombings.  And on the day of the attack there have been those in the media already making the case that the bomber is possibly a ‘radical’ conservative.  Because it happened on April 15.  Tax Day.  During the Patriots’ Day holiday in Boston.  Not far from the anniversary of the fiery end of the Waco siege.  Even someone in the media wrote that they were hoping that it was the actions of an angry white man.  So it wouldn’t hurt the liberal political agenda.  More gun control.  And less restrictions on immigration.  So if the bomber(s) entered the country illegally (i.e., they’re not angry white men) that could hurt their attempts at creating new Democrat voters by giving illegal immigrants amnesty.

Former Democrat Congressman Barney Frank was quick to politicize the bombings, too.  He said the response of the first-responders proves the value of big government.  For no tax cuts or limited government would have made the response any better.  Another Democrat Congress person blamed the bombings on the sequester.  The cut in federal spending allowed these bombers to detonate these two bombs.  So on the one hand you have one Congress person saying how well the government handled the situation because we don’t have limited government or tax cuts while you have another saying the government was so weakened by the sequester that they were unable to stop these bombers.  Positions on opposite ends of the spectrum.  But with one thing in common.  They both attack conservatives.

The Left Gleefully reports a Conservative Connection in any Horrible Act of Violence even when there is None

They blamed the massacre at Sandy Hook elementary school in Newtown, Connecticut, on radical gun-toting conservatives.  Anxious to prove that the shooter was a card carrying member of some conservative organization.  And were quite disappointed to find the shooter was just someone with mental health problems who the state should have institutionalized.  Who lived in his mother’s basement playing violent video games and earning high-scores with high kill numbers.  Some have even suggested that he was living in the fantasy world of the videogame when he started shooting.  Scoring points with each kill.  Reloading even before his magazines were empty (like during lulls in a videogame so you had a full magazine for the next shooting encounter).  And killing himself before the cops could kill him, resetting his game points to zero.  There are a lot of theories.  But with his suicide we can’t know for sure his motive.

Nothing would have prevented this shooting other than locking him up in an institution while he was learning about past mass shootings.  Planning his crime.  And playing hours of video games in his basement.  Adam Lanza was sick.  He was mentally unsound.  He had trouble interacting with people.  And separating the real world from the fantasy world of his video gaming.  But one thing he wasn’t was a radical conservative.  But it didn’t stop the liberal Democrats from blaming the Sandy Hook massacre on a conservative gun culture.  And using it to try and pass long-desired gun control legislation.  Instead of addressing mental health problems.  The cause of the Sandy Hook massacre.  In fact, during the last few decades the Left has made it more difficult to commit someone who is a danger to society.  And they exploded the use of drugs to treat a laundry list of childhood developmental problems.  Such as drugging a generation of kids for having attention deficit disorder.  Trusting in medication to make them safe and well behaved.  Leaving dangerous people free to hurt people.  Dangerous people like Adam Lanza.

Mental health problems are a main theme in many mass killings.  Before Newtown there was the 2012 Aurora theater shooting.  Where the shooter was a mentally sick individual.  James Holmes.  Who the state should have institutionalized.  As soon as his name was released a person in the media reported he was a member of the Tea Party.  Because he found a James Holmes in Aurora that was a member of the Tea Party.  Which they gleefully reported so they could show this horrible act of violence was by some gun-toting conservative.  Only it wasn’t THAT James Holmes.  The Aurora shooter had no connection to conservative politics whatsoever.

When Emotions are Running High the Left can Pass Legislation they’ve never been able to Pass Before

In Tucson in 2011 Jared Loughner went on a shooting spree.  Killing six.  And shooting Representative Gabrielle Giffords in the head.  The media immediately started blaming conservative Sarah Palin for inciting this rampage.  Because she had a bulls-eye on her website showing certain Congressional districts in the cross hairs.  Including Giffords’.  But was Jared Loughner incited to his crime by Palin?  No.  For he wouldn’t have gone on her website.  He was a registered Independent.  He hated George W. Bush.  He even believed that 9/11 was a government plot.  And was a paranoid schizophrenic who abused drugs and alcohol.

Nidal Malik Hasan shot and killed 13 people and wounded 30 at Fort Hood in 2009.  He was a major in the Army who had recently converted to Islam.  Was in communication with Yemen-based cleric Anwar al-Awlaki who was a known security threat.  And reportedly shouted what Islamist terrorists shout before they start killing.  Allahu Akbar!  Which translates to “God is great.”  But instead of calling this an act of terrorism President Obama called it workplace violence.  Because he was trying to wind down the War on Terror.  So he could use that money to pay for Obamacare.  And having an act of terrorism on a U.S Army post didn’t help with that agenda.

Seung-Hui Cho shot and killed 32 people and wounded 17 at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in 2007.  He also suffered from mental disorders going back to middle school.  Who had problems similar to Adam Lanza.  Something his college knew nothing about because of federal privacy laws.  Laws that protected the individual by putting the public at risk.  As an adult Cho chose to discontinue his therapy.  And his behavior became similar to how James Holmes would later act when he was in college.  Which is when the state probably should have committed him.  After the shooting rampage the Left blamed easy access to guns as the cause of the shooting.  Not their failed mental health policies.

One can see a general pattern.  The Left likes having these atrocities happen.  At least based on how they politicize these atrocities.  And why do they politicize these atrocities?  Because they can’t beat their political opponents in the arena of ideas.  So they turn to character assaults.  To destroy their political opponents.  By trying to blame these atrocities on conservatives.  And their cruel and unfeeling policies.  That kill school children.  And when emotions are running high they can pass legislation they’ve never been able to pass before.  Like gun control.  And they don’t run higher than when children die.

Sandy Hook, Gun Control, Second Amendment, Patriot Act, Motor Vehicle Accidents and Partial-Birth Abortion

Posted by PITHOCRATES - January 10th, 2013

Politics 101
