The Left goes after the Youth Vote before they Grow Up and Become Responsible

Posted by PITHOCRATES - October 13th, 2012

Week in Review

The Left always urges kids to vote the moment they turn 18.  That it’s important they exercise their right to vote.  Because their views and opinions are important.  Because they haven’t become corrupted or jaded yet by politics.  We need to listen to the young.  Because they are our future.  And not a bunch of doddering old people who vote just to protect their bank accounts, their homes, their children and their country.  No, these people are just too old and blind to the progressive needs of our country.  Maybe they knew what was important in their youth but they’re completely out of touch today.  And therefore we need the young to help us move the nation forward.  For they may be young but they’re smart, responsible and in touch with the important issues of the day (see Investigators suspect teen in fatal LI crash was ‘high’ by KIERAN CROWLEY, ERIN CALABRESE and DAN MANGAN posted 10/9/2012 on the New York Post).

Joseph Beer, 17, “was driving way too fast” right before the spectacular crash at about 3:40 a.m. yesterday on the Southern State Parkway in Nassau County, a law-enforcement source said.

Authorities suspect Beer “was high” at the time the his new 2012 Subaru STI slid across a section of the highway known as Dead Man’s Curve and went sailing into a group of trees — totaling the car and ejecting all five people inside, the source said.

Only Beer survived — but killed instantly were his four recently graduated classmates from Richmond Hill HS in Queens, all of whom were 18 years old…

Because Beer only had a learner’s permit, he was barred from driving between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m., from driving without a licensed 21-year-old driver in the car to supervise him, and from carrying any passengers under age 21 who were family members.

There but for the grace of God go I.  We’ve all done stupid things in our youth.  Despite things like this happening to someone we know or to someone in our community.  But we are so stupid in our youth that we continue to do stupid things.  Which is why we can’t drink until we’re 21.  And can’t drive after 9 PM without a licensed 21-year-old (or older) driver to help us stop doing stupid things.  But as much as we try to stop these stupid things from happening they do.  Which is why car insurance is so expensive for young drivers.  Because of the stupid things we do in our youth.

Had it not been for the youth vote Barak Obama would not have won the 2008 election.  But if they’re not mature enough to drink until they’re 21 perhaps they’re not mature enough to vote either.  President Obama’s Keynesian policies have devastated the economy.  They caused a credit downgrade for the first time in history.  We have had record trillion dollar deficits in each year of his presidency.  We have a record debt thanks to his deficits.  His stimulus bill rewarded campaign contributors while creating no ‘shovel ready’ jobs.  His bailout of GM and Chrysler did what a normal bankruptcy filing would have done only without screwing the bond holders and giving the company to the UAW to bail out their pension plan while leaving the same structure in place that prevented them from selling vehicles profitably in the first place.  His investments in green energy rewarded campaign contributors instead of creating jobs of the future.  His attacks on oil have raised the price of gasoline and food.  And his attack on coal is setting up the country for an energy future of rolling blackouts and outages.

A lot of old people understand this because they have experienced a lot of this before.  They lived through the disaster of the Carter presidency.  And the Morning in America of Ronald Reagan.  They know that the pro-business policies of Warren Harding/Calvin Coolidge, JFK, Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush produced both economic growth and increased tax revenue.  And they’ve already lived through a decline in American Exceptionalism once during the Seventies and don’t want to live through it again now.  Especially those who immigrated to the United States for a better life.  And they’re seeing it decline again right before their eyes thanks to excessive government spending and attacks on success.  Old people see this.  They’ve experienced it.  Which is why they vote the way they vote.  Not for promises of free birth control or access to unlimited abortion services.  Or the decriminalization of marijuana.  Issues that weigh heavily on the minds of young voters.  Which the Left knows.  And exploits.  Which is how they got Barack Obama elected.  And put the nation into the precarious position it is now in.

Politics 101

The Founding Fathers pledged to each other their Lives, their Fortunes and their Sacred Honor

People have protested and died fighting for the right to vote throughout history.  The American Revolutionary War was over taxation without representation.  Meaning that the American colonies wanted representation in British Parliament.  Something the British government did not allow.  Worse, they started taxing the Americans.  Who had no representation in Parliament.  And this did not go over well with the American colonists.  They had had enough.  They wanted a say in their government.

So the Founding Fathers committed treason.  They signed the Declaration of Independence.  And fought 8 years to have that say in their government.  It took awhile.  And a lot of the signers of the Declaration of Independence suffered for their treason.  They lost their property.  Their wealth.  And even their families.  Who suffered all sorts of brutality at the hands of the British.  These traitors.  Who defied their king.  But the cause persevered.  And the Americans won their independence.  As well as their right to self-government.

Back then people cared.  Enough to pledge to each other their lives, their fortunes and their sacred honor.  But today?  People have other priorities in life.  Where reality television is more important in their lives than having that say in their government.  For they have no idea what the Founding Fathers paid to give us this cushy life of plenty.  And just assume the good times will continue to roll.  Especially if they keep voting for whoever promises to give them more free stuff.

Candidates move to the Center after Winning their Party’s Nomination and become someone Completely Different

In the country that struggled for 8 years to get the right to vote.  In the country that inspired people all around the world to follow them in the pursuit of happiness.  In the very bastion of liberty and self-government.  In America.  Guess how many people vote today in a typical presidential election.  Little more than half of eligible voters.  And that’s in the general election.  It’s far worse in the primary election.  Where we see maybe half of that turnout.  Which is rather sad.  Considering that these are the people who actually pay attention to politics.  For this is where a political party chooses their candidate for the general election.  You see, each party has a platform.  A set of political ideas.  Their core philosophy.  And the people choose who they think will best advance their party platform in the primary election.

So during the primary election candidates try to be that candidate.  The one who will best advance the party platform.  Typically the conservative moves as far right as possible to show his or her conservative bona fides.  And the liberal moves as far left as possible to show his or her liberal bona fides.  Here they’re trying to appeal to the party base.  The hardcore.  Those who are as far away from the political center as is possible.  Those who don’t give a whit about compromise or bipartisanship.  They want a purebred candidate that will take the country where they feel it should be.  They don’t want someone who will reach across the aisle and compromise away their most cherished principles.

The population roughly breaks down to 40% conservative, 20% liberal and 40% moderate/independent.  Which is all fine and dandy during the primary election.  But it’s a bit of a problem during the general election.  For that 40% moderate/independent forms the political center.  That area the candidates run away from during the primary election.  So they must scramble back to it after winning their party’s nomination.  And hope that most of those in the center didn’t pay attention during the primary.  To make the lying easier.  To no longer be who they said they were during the primary.  But to be someone completely different.  Someone who can reach across the aisle.  Someone who can compromise away their base’s most cherished principles.  Someone who believes politics should be bipartisan.  Or, better still, nonpartisan.  In other words, the last person their base would want.

When the Choice is between two Moderates, Democrats will always Choose the Democrat Moderate

Liberals have to run to the center.  For their base only amounts to about 20% of the electorate.  But it’s not quite the same for conservatives.  At 40% of the electorate they don’t have to run the center.  They only need another 10% or so of the vote to win.  So running to the center actually hurts them.  Because a lot of that political center is Democrat.  And if the vote comes down to 2 moderates they’re going to vote for the Democrat moderate over the Republican moderate every time.  Because all things being equal, a Democrat will vote for a Democrat.

When the Republicans ran a moderate who campaigned as someone who would reach across the aisle and compromise away his base’s most cherished principles, John McCain didn’t get the moderate vote.  They voted for the Democrat.  Who lied during the general election and ran as a moderate.  Sometimes he even talked like a conservative.  Even though Barack Obama was as liberal as they came.  At least based on his voting record in public office.

When Republican Ronald Reagan won his party nomination he didn’t run to the center.  He remained a conservative.  And he won.  Because a lot of Democrats voted for him.  The Reagan Democrats.  Because there was a real difference between him and Jimmy Carter.  There was a conservative and a liberal.  And the Reagan Democrats decided to vote for the conservative because they liked the conservative message better than the liberal message.  But when the choice is between two moderates who promise to reach across the aisle more than the other there’s no real difference between the candidates.  And no reason to vote for the other guy when he or she is no different than the one from your own party.

Ignoring the Primary Elections ignores the Philosophical Debate and turns the General Election into a Populist Contest

It is a shame the level of voter apathy in the country that stands for self-government.  Almost half of the eligible voters ignore politics 3 years out of 4.  And only vote in the presidential general election.  It’s a shame because we have a 2-party system.  Like it or not.  There are only two core political philosophies to choose from.  For those in the middle don’t have a philosophy.  A party.  A party platform.  A primary election.  Or a political convention.  They only get involved once every 4 years at the general election.  And ultimately end up voting for a Democrat or a Republican.  Even though they refuse to identify themselves with either party.

But ignoring the primary elections ignores the party platforms.  The meat and potatoes of the philosophical debate.  And turns the general election into nothing but a populist contest.  True democracy.  Mob rule.  With the winner often being the one who promises the most to the least politically informed.

Politics has come a long way since the Founding Fathers pledged to each other their lives, their fortunes and their sacred honor.  It’s probably a good thing they’re not here to see what has become of their self-government.  They wouldn’t like what they would see.  Especially the voter apathy.

FUNDAMENTAL TRUTH #44: “Liberal Democrats have to lie because there are more taxpayers than tax consumers.” -Old Pithy

Posted by PITHOCRATES - December 14th, 2010

Tax and Spend and Do as I Say

Liberal Democrats like to tax and spend.  And they are also so full of themselves that they like to tell other people how to live their lives.  Because they think they are smarter than us.  And know what’s best for us.

Funny thing.  A lot of these liberal Democrats are rich.  Like Nancy Pelosi and her San Francisco constituents (you need to be rich to live in her neighborhood).  Though they’re rich they prefer to spend other people’s money.  And spend a lot of it.  They take the concept of ‘redistribution of wealth’ to new heights.  As long it’s other people’s wealth, that is.

Not many agree with them.  Liberal Democrats make up about 20% of the electorate.  So theirs is a minority opinion.  Which can be a problem when you want to tax and spend.  Because that other 80% tend to have real jobs.  Which means they pay the taxes that liberals like to spend.  And they’re none too keen on giving up their hard-earned money so a bunch of rich liberals can assuage their guilt for being rich.

Democracy Ruined the Good Old Days for the Privileged Classes

Being a 20% minority has its problems.  Especially when you want to tell how the other 80% should live.  They lament that we live in a democracy.  Where people have the right to vote.  Unlike in the good old days.  Where your blood determined rank and privilege.  There were no questions asked.  You did what you want.  Because you could.  And there was no voting.  No silly inconvenience of elections.  No, back then the rich and privileged classes knew how to live.  And the suffering masses knew their place.

But, alas, the miserable Founding Fathers had to go and muck all of that up.  Liberty.  The biggest pain in the ass the entitled classes ever had to deal with.  Nowadays, the privileged just can’t do what they want.   You need to win elections.  They need to get others to vote their way.  They need others to agree that their living the good life is in the best interest of the country.  And how do they do that?  They lie, of course.  And make as many people as possible dependent on their generosity.  Their generosity with other people’s money, that is.

Of course, it wasn’t always other people’s money.  It used to be their food.  In the 1790s, things were getting pretty bad in France.  For the suffering masses, that is.  The ‘Third Estate’.  Things were going pretty darn well for Estates 1 & 2.  The rich nobles.  And the rich clergy.  And we know how all that ended up.  Bad.  For Estates 1 & 2.  The Third Estate (i.e., the poor suffering masses) grew tired of going hungry and suffering famine.  So they stormed the Bastille and kicked off the bloody French Revolution.  Because they were hungry.  And the rich and privileged were not.  But I digress.

Using Class Warfare to Demonize their Political Opponents

Sadly, for the rich and privileged, the American and French Revolutions changed things.  The ruling minority could no longer rule as they pleased.  They had to consider the majority.  There would now be taxation with representation.  Like in Great Britain.  People paying the taxes would have a say in how the politicians spent those taxes.

Merde.  Pardon my French.  Or so said the rich and privileged classes.  Who now had a problem.  If the rich and privileged were no longer entitled to a better life, how could they then live a better life?  I mean, let’s face it, these people aren’t exactly busting with ability.  Most couldn’t find their way out of a wet paper bag.  So what does one do with no ability?  Scheme deviously.

And one of the most devious and effective tools?  Class warfare.  You attack the people with ability who have earned their wealth.  Something that few liberal Democrats can do.  Because they have no ability.  So they demonize those that do.  Business owners.  Corporate America.  And you tell the poor masses that the only reason that they’re poor is because the rich business class is exploiting them.  And that they, the liberal Democrats, will rectify that situation.

Lying to Independents and Moderates

So they give them stuff.  They tax the rich.  And give stuff to the poor.  Which makes the poor grateful.  And dependent on the government.  Grateful and dependent, of course, equals votes.  This giving of other people’s money isn’t limited to the poor, though.  They make the not-so-poor special interests even less poor with this same generosity.  This generosity of other people’s money.

It’s a full-proof deviousness.  When the rich and privileged classes shower the poor and special interests with other people’s money, they get their votes.  And it’s a lot more than 20% of the electorate.  But it’s not quite a majority, though.  So they have to lie to another group of people to push them into the majority.  And who are these people?  Moderates and independents.

These people, though, are a problem.  They have honest jobs.  They don’t stand to prosper by voting liberal Democrat.  And they’re not likely to respond well to a campaign slogan that says we want to raise your taxes so others can live better without working as hard as you do.  People just don’t choose to pay more.  So others can have more.  While they go with less.  It’s why some people will drive 5 miles to save 2 cents per gallon of gas.  People choose to pay as little as possible.

Liberals Hate Ronald Reagan.  But they Campaign like him to Win.

So how do you get people who won’t benefit by voting for you to vote for you?  By demonizing your opponent.  The Left destroyed Newt Gingrich because he wanted senior citizens to ‘wither on the vine’.  Or so they said.  He never said that (he said Medicare would wither on the vine after enough people took proposed government subsidies to move into private insurance policies).  But all moderates and independents heard was that he wanted to kill senior citizens.  And that was enough.  His approval ratings plummeted.  To save his party, he resigned.

This is the only way liberal Democrats can win elections.  By lying.  They never run openly.  They never say they want to raise your taxes.  Far from it.  Because people don’t want to pay more taxes.  Few can even afford to.  No, when they campaign, they try to sound like the great conservative, Ronald Reagan.  Why?  Because the majority of Americans approved of his policies.  So they hide their true selves during the elections.  And hope and pray (figuratively, of course) that the moderates and Independents have short memories.

They have to do this because of one very inconvenient fact.  There are more taxpayers than tax consumers.  Which is a double-edged sword for liberal Democrats.  On one hand, more taxpayers mean more tax money.  But, on the other hand, because of Democracy, it also means more people they have to successfully lie to.  Merde.

Big Government Business as Usual – Corruption and Failure

Posted by PITHOCRATES - October 23rd, 2010

With Representation We Don’t Need Violent Revolution to Change Our Government

Republican congressional candidate (Dallas’ 30th Congressional District) Stephen Broden is talking crazy talk.  Which is a real shame.  Among the things he has said include this (see Republican congressional candidate says violent overthrow of government is ‘on the table’ from The Dallas Morning News by Melanie Mason):

“If the government is not producing the results or has become destructive to the ends of our liberties, we have a right to get rid of that government and to get rid of it by any means necessary,” Broden said, adding the nation was founded on a violent revolt against Britain’s King George III.

While it is true that we did use violent revolution to get rid of the government of Great Britain, that was then.  This is now.  We have something our Founding Fathers didn’t.  Representation.

If we can’t vote a government out of office, we sure don’t want to overthrow it by violent revolution.  If you think we lack unity now, just wait until you throw violence into the mix.  Think of the 4 long years of the American Civil War that killed more Americans than all other of America’s wars combined.  Think of the French Revolution and how even Robespierre, the architect of The Reign of Terror, was trundled off to the guillotine.  Think about America’s 8-year Revolutionary War in the south where it devolved into a bloody civil war between Loyalist and Patriot, neighbor against neighbor, brother against brother.  This is how violent overthrows of government go.  No, we don’t want this.  Especially when we have the right to vote.

The problem we have is an educational one.  If we understood our history, if we understood economic fundamentals, there would be no frustration and talks of violent overthrow.  There would be no need.  We would already have won at the ballot box.

Barney Frank Steals from Us in a Roundabout Way

That said, one can understand people’s frustrations.  Because some politicians are just so blatant in their corruption.  Take Barney Frank (please).  He is one of the architects of the subprime mortgage crisis, TARP, bailouts and author of new financial regulation to prevent people like him from raping and pillaging the American people again.  And he’s Wall Street’s bitch (see Barney Frank rakes in $40G from bailed out banks by Dave Wedge writing in the Boston Herald).

Frank vowed in February 2009 that he wouldn’t accept campaign donations from banks that received money under the $700 billion Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP) or political action committees tied to such institutions.

But Frank has hauled in thousands from top execs at Bank of America, Citizens Bank, Wainwright Bank, JP Morgan Chase and other institutions that received billions in TARP money.

It was Barney Frank’s push for affordable housing and his lack of oversight of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac that gave us the subprime mortgage crisis.  But he protects Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac still.  And during the debate over the new finance regulation, he unloaded vitriol of the highest degree on Wall Street, blaming them for all our woes.  And here he is, taking money from the same people he attacked.  And bailed out.  How coincidental.  Do they come more corrupt?

The Chevy Volt is Yet Another Big Government Failure

And speaking of bailouts, how about that Government Motors?  The Obama administration attacked GM for making the wrong kind of cars.  And what were they selling?  Trucks and SUVs.  Which is what the people want.  But the Left hates trucks and SUVs so Obama took over this car company to build the ‘right’ kind of car.  And what did they come up with?  Not much (see Volt Fraud At Government Motors in an Investor’s Business Daily editorial).

It turns out that this electric car is rather silly.  You have to pay people to buy it.  It has a limited range.  And very average mileage.

The gasoline engine has been found to be more than a range-extender for the battery. Volt engineers are now admitting that when the vehicle’s lithium-ion battery pack runs down and at speeds near or above 70 mph, the Volt’s gasoline engine will directly drive the front wheels along with the electric motors. That’s not charging the battery — that’s driving the car.

So it’s not an all-electric car, but rather a pricey $41,000 hybrid that requires a taxpayer-funded $7,500 subsidy to get car shoppers to look at it. But gee, even despite the false advertising about the powertrain, isn’t a car that gets 230 miles per gallon of gas worth it?

We heard GM’s then-CEO Fritz Henderson claim the Volt would get 230 miles per gallon in city conditions. Popular Mechanics found the Volt to get about 37.5 mpg in city driving, and Motor Trend reports: “Without any plugging in, (a weeklong trip to Grandma’s house) should return fuel economy in the high 30s to low 40s.”

Again, further reason for all that frustration over government.  Henderson was the government’s man after Obama forced out Rick Wagoner.  And, surprise surprise, he lied.  Big Government poured millions of our tax dollars into this electric lemon.  But why?  We could have bought the same thing from Toyota for a heck of a lot less.

Politics – The Art of Corruption

The moral of this lesson?  The only thing government is really good at is corruption.  And to be honest, we really don’t need any more of that.  So let’s just vote this election season.  And have a peaceful change of power.  The American way.

If John Adams could peacefully hand over power to Thomas Jefferson, the people in Dallas’ 30th Congressional District have little to worry about Stephen Broden.  Let’s not forget that there were those on the Left who said George W. Bush would legalize rape and put all gay people into one state.  Well, he didn’t.  People say stupid things during the heat of an election.  We need to look past the crazy to their philosophical basis.  And whether or not we want Barney Frank to be the chairman of the House Financial Services Committee any longer.  For if there is one thing we’ve learned, you don’t want the fox guarding the hen house.  Not anymore.

We don’t need Barney Frank practicing his art anymore.  Or anyone else in Big Government.  The art of corruption had its run.  We need a new show in Washington.  Something new.  Something different.  Here’s a thought.  How about something honest?
