Children only care about the Here and Now and Instant Gratification
“Mom, can I eat this whole birthday cake?” “No.” “Dad, can I stay up past my bed time?” “No.” “Mom, can I go out and play instead of cleaning my room?” “No.” “Dad, can I skip my homework and play football with the guys?” “No.” “Mom, can I go to the concert with Billy and his big brother?” “No.” “Dad, can I use your table saw?” “No.” “Mom, will you buy me this micro dress for the dance?” “No.” “Dad, can I borrow the car this Friday to drive to a party?” “No.” “Mom, can I have boys in my bedroom?” “Hell no.” “Dad, can I have $50?” “For what?” “Stuff?” “What kind of stuff?” “You know, stuff.” “Oh, in that case, no.”
“No.” It is the most important word in a parent’s vocabulary. For kids want to do a lot of things that aren’t good for them. Things that will get them into trouble. Things that might hurt them. Things that may leave them with unpleasant and/or long-lasting consequences. Parents have to say ‘no’ because kids just don’t know any better. They only think about the here and now. Not about the future. They want instant gratification. They want to have fun. They don’t want to wait. They don’t want to work. And the last thing they want to do is to delay gratification.
So parents have to keep saying ‘no’ for their children’s own good. At least, responsible parents do. Because parents are older and wiser than their children. Contrary to popular belief children have about their parents. Children like to say that their parents “don’t know anything.” But they do. In fact, they know a lot. Because they were once impulsive children having the same arguments with their parents. And now that they are parents they see the world differently than they did as children. They see it as their parents saw it. And realize that their parents were right all along. Thanks to a lot more education, a lot more work experience and a lot more life experience. The things that makes one wiser as one gets older.
Children who never Grow Up as Adults tend to Remain Liberal and Vote Democrat
Children that grow up into responsible adults tend to be more conservative. They get jobs. Straight out of high school. Or after college. And party less. They cut back on reckless behavior. Such as drinking and driving. Because they realized they could get a DUI. They could hurt themselves. Or, worse, hurt someone else. If they used drugs they cut back. Some stop using them completely. They stop having casual sex with random people. In part to avoid an STD. In part because they want something more than just a good time. So they, instead, get married. And settle down. Raise a family. And it’s about this time that these one-time wild liberals start voting Republican. As they see there is a lot more to life than partying with booze and drugs. And having sex. Especially when they become parents.
Becoming a parent changes a person. Single coworkers may still want to go out and get a drink after work. They may look forward to the weekend so they can drink themselves into a stupor. But not a married person. At least, not a married responsible grownup. They want to go straight home to their wife. Or husband. They want to spend time with their kids. And they don’t want to do anything that could harm their kids. Like risking their job by coming in late hung over after a night of excessive drinking. They’d rather get to work early. Do their job. And build a successful career. That is both personally satisfying. And takes care of their family. Something sobriety helps. And our days tend to be easier when they don’t start with a hangover.
Children who never grow up as adults, on the other hand, tend to remain liberal. Focused on the here and now. Without a thought about the future. For them gratification is all that matters. These people tend to keep the wild ways of their youth. And those who go on to college take it up a notch. Away from their parents incessant ‘no’s they can finally say ‘yes’ to everything. And a lot of them do. They’ll get drunk and video things with their smartphones. And upload them to the Internet. The kind of things you once had to go to a pornography store to buy. But they and their friends will post these videos for all the world to see. And these things will still be floating around the Internet years later when they’re saying ‘no’ to their own children. Or interviewing for a job. Jessie Watters on The O’Reilly Factor has interviewed some of these young college students on spring break. Asking them questions about history. International events. Current events at home. And if they could identify members of the Federal government. Few could. Very few. Because they have more pressing things in their lives apparently than getting an education. At least based on what they’re doing with their smartphones.
Democrats only care about the Here and Now and Instant Gratification
Liberal Democrats love these kids. For they know all they want is to have fun. So they become the party of fun. Free birth control. Access to abortion. Decriminalizing marijuana. Anti-religion. No moral absolutes. Anything goes. Even encouraging reckless behavior (they’re going to have sex anyway so we might as well make it easier for them). Veritable anti-parents. Who tell these kids that they (these kids) know what’s best for them. Not their parents. And if they want instant gratification that’s okay. You don’t have to worry about the future because if you vote Democrat that’s something else we’ll do for you besides the birth control, abortion, marijuana and the lack of moral constraints. If you vote Democrat we’ll take care of you from cradle to grave. Just like that The Life of Julia slideshow promised. With so little education, work experience and life experience these kids don’t know any better and say, “Okay. Where do I vote.”
So the Democrats use these kids to stay in office. They know little so it is easy to lie to them. About the ‘evil Republicans’ that are as big a killjoy as their parents. And about how much better the Democrats are going to make their lives. If only they keep voting Democrat. So they do. Because the Democrats offer everything an irresponsible adult could want. Which is a shame as a lot of what the Democrats offer is bad for the rest of us. And the country. Their Keynesian economics fails over and over yet they keep using these failed policies of the past. Putting the country further into debt. And further depreciating the dollar. They lie to these kids about global warming. Allowing the Democrats to remain in power and pass crippling regulations. Threatening the coal industry. As well as increasing our energy costs. They want to raise the minimum wage for unskilled, entry-level jobs. Reducing the number of entry level jobs available for those looking to enter the workforce. And they want to take over our health care. The best health care system in the world. Replacing it with something not as good and more costly.
But these grand domestic plans require a lot of money. Which they often get from gutting the defense budget. Weakening our military (something they never liked to begin with) to free up money for buying votes (i.e., spending) elsewhere. They help justify this with a horrible foreign policy. Instead of peace through (costly) strength they choose a ‘please like us’ foreign policy. Marginalizing American Exceptionalism. Being kind to our enemies. And leaving our allies doubting our commitments. But if our enemies like us we won’t need a large military anymore. Allowing them to use those defense dollars elsewhere. And how has that been working out? Not good. Since the ‘please like us’ foreign policy juggernaut Egypt is in chaos. Syria is in a bitter civil war. Iran is developing a nuclear bomb. Israel is feeling abandoned. Al Qaeda is taking over Libya and Iraq. The Taliban will return to Afghanistan once the U.S. leaves. North Korea is test-firing ballistic missiles. And Vladimir Putin is restoring the Soviet Union. Because he can. Thanks to America’s new ‘please like us’ foreign policy. Instead of the peace through strength of previous presidents. Like Ronald Reagan. And JFK.
There’s something else children who never grow up do. Go into politics. Into the Democrat Party. Not the Republican Party. The party the Democrats derisively call the party of ‘no’. They join the Democrat Party. And do all of the things that give us the worst economic recovery since that following the Great Depression. And a more dangerous world. Despite this they still want to do more. Without caring what their actions may do to our future. Just like children. All they care about is the here and now. And instant gratification. So of course the Republicans are the party of ‘no’ because that’s what grownups say to children. ‘No’.

Bad Guys won’t open their Can of Whoop-Ass if there is a Chance they’ll get their Ass Kicked
Bullies generally pick on smaller and weaker people. Smaller and weaker people don’t pick on tough guys. They don’t walk up to a bully and give him a wedgie. They’d like to. But they don’t. Why? Because if a small and weak person did they’d get their ass kicked. That’s why. And people don’t like getting their ass kicked. But sometimes it’s the tough guys that save the day.
In the opening scene of V for Vendetta Evey was about to get raped by some government thugs. Then tough guy V came along and kicked their asses. Saving Eve from a brutal rape. In Die Hard the evil Hans Gruber was going to kill everyone in that building until tough guy John McClane happened on the scene. And started killing the bad guys. Saving the day. In the movie Patton everyone wanted him thrown out of the Army after he slapped that crying soldier. But when the Allies’ drive stalled in the Normandy hedgerow country who did they turn to? That’s right. Tough guy General Patton. Who started kicking Nazi ass big time. Breaking through their lines and advancing in every compass direction while British General Bernard Montgomery was still struggling o take his D-Day objective. Caen.
People don’t like getting their ass kicked. But if they are in danger of a good ass-kicking they’d want someone on their side who can kick ass as good as the next guy. For even bad guys don’t want to get their ass kicked. And if there is a chance of that happening they’re going to think long and hard before opening their can of whoop-ass. Especially when someone else’s can of whoop-ass is bigger.
Only the Military Might of the United States could contain Soviet Expansion
The Roman Empire had one mighty can of whoop-ass. Something her potential enemies understood. And feared. So they didn’t cause any trouble. Because they didn’t want to get their ass kicked. Which is why from approximately 27 BC to 180 AD there was relative peace in the world. Pax Romana. For the Romans had the mightiest military force in the world. And if you went up against them you were most likely going to lose. So they didn’t. Instead, choosing to live in peace.
The British Empire was even larger than the Roman Empire. And had an even larger can of whoop-ass. Not only did they have armies throughout their empire which was so large that the sun never set on it. The Royal Navy ruled the seas. Which meant if you caused any trouble in the world you could expect an ass-kicking. Either from her mighty military power. Or her aid to a smaller and weaker country under threat from an aggressive neighbor. The bad guys learned. It wasn’t worth it. If you tried to break the peace you were going to get your ass kicked. Which is why from 1815 through 1914 when the British Empire ruled the world there was relative peace. Pax Britannica.
The United States of America had come of age during the 20th century. Growing even bigger and stronger than the empire that sired her. The British Empire. Who went into decline during the 20th century. But just as Pax Britannica drew to a close and the world became a more dangerous place the United States stepped in. Allowing the Allies to defeat Nazi Germany. And Imperial Japan. She grew to have the biggest can of whoop-ass in history. And became the world’s policeman. Pushing back against Soviet expansion. In Europe. The Balkans. The Middle East. And Southeast Asia. The Soviets wanted to conquer the world. And would have if not for America’s mighty military to counter their threat. Leading to a period of relative peace following World War II. Pax Americana. As only the military might of the United States could contain Soviet expansion.
Vladimir Putin feels that he can put the old Soviet Union back together during the Obama Administration
During a sound check before a radio address President Reagan made a joke. He said, “My fellow Americans, I’m pleased to tell you today that I’ve signed legislation that will outlaw Russia forever. We begin bombing in five minutes.” Reagan had a sense of humor and those present laughed. The joke leaked. The Soviets heard it. And they put their Soviet Far East Army on alert. You see, they had great respect for the awesome military power of the United States. And they respected Reagan. They did not like him. But they respected him. And if he said he was going to open a can of whoop-ass on them they got nervous. For President Reagan may have spoken softly. But he was not afraid to kick ass.
The Soviets had no such respect for Reagan’s predecessor. Jimmy Carter. In fact, they had so little respect for him that they developed a nuclear first-strike plan. For Carter was gutting the military. And wasn’t a tough guy when it came to foreign policy. He was a president who wanted to focus on domestic policy. A sign of weakness the Soviets could smell. Anyone who gutted the military to pay for more domestic spending would never pull the nuclear trigger. At least that’s what the Soviets thought. Which is why they prepared a nuclear first-strike plan during the Carter administration. Sure they could win a nuclear war against him. The Soviets thought no such thing during the Reagan administration. So instead of a nuclear war (which may have happened in a Carter second term) we had peace. Because of our strength.
Peace through strength. If you’re a bad-ass people will leave you alone. Because no one wants to get their ass kicked. If you’re hell-bent on beating the crap out of your neighbor so you can take her resources and there is a bad-ass in the world that can bring a world of hurt down on you it will make you think. And pause. This is why there was a Pax Romana. A Pax Britannica. And a Pax Americana. Because people respect a bad-ass. And will not incite it. They may hate the bad-ass. But they will respect it. And not piss it off.
President Obama has a strong domestic agenda. Like Jimmy Carter. He doesn’t want to deal with foreign policy. Like Jimmy Carter. And he is not respected or feared by the world’s bad guys. Like Jimmy Carter. Who is far more inclined to make a speech and threaten action. But is far less likely to open a can of whoop-ass. Like Ronald Reagan. Which is why Vladimir Putin feels that he can put the old Soviet Union back together during the Obama administration. Because he doesn’t fear the wrath of President Obama. As no one does. For he is all bark and no bite. At least, so far. Apart from killing a bunch of people that can’t fight back. Drone strikes. Bombing Libya (that was no threat to American interests). And killing Osama bin Laden with a SEAL team. More of an imperial use of force than acting as the world’s policeman to safeguard liberty and democracy. So Vladimir Putin has little to worry about during an Obama presidency. Unlike conservatives in America.

John Adams was descended from the Puritans who landed at Plymouth Rock
John Adams was the Rodney Dangerfield of the Founding Fathers. He got no respect. However deserving he was of respect. The man was brilliant. Well read. Honest. Virtuous. But irascible. And vain. He knew he was right when he was right. And was more than eager to argue with anyone that was wrong. Which was most of the time. Tending to make most people not love him. A lot. Earning him monikers like His Rotundity. Because he was portly. Irascible. And not really loved. Which bothered Adams. For he was one of the greatest of the Founding Fathers. But others got all the love. Such as Thomas Jefferson. The junior Congressman they delegated the writing of the Declaration of Independence to after Adams did all the heavy lifting in Congressional debate to lead the nation to declare their independence. While Jefferson sat through all those heated debates silently. For, unlike Adams, Jefferson did not like public confrontations. He preferred stabbing people in the back through surrogates. Or in the press. As Adams would learn firsthand during the 1800 presidential election.
Adams was a very religious man. His family descended from the Puritans who landed at Plymouth Rock. Who stressed filling your day with hard work and going to church. And if you had any time left in the day you might get a little eating or sleeping in. Adams was a farmer. And had the hands of a working man. But he was also a lawyer. A very good lawyer. Who had as much reverence for the law as he did for his religion. So much so that he represented the British soldiers involved in the Boston Massacre. After the Stamp Act (1765) things were getting a little heated in Boston. Adams then wrote the Braintree Instructions in response to the Stamp Act. Stating that there should be no taxation without representation. Calling for trial by jury. And an independent judiciary. Things the British denied the good people in the American colonies. But things Adams insisted that the Americans shouldn’t deny to the British soldiers who shot those Americans in Boston. So he represented the British on trial when no one else would take the case. And he got a jury of Bostonians to acquit all but two who they found guilty of manslaughter.
Just about every Bostonian wanted the British soldiers found guilty of murder and hung. Bu the rule of law prevailed. As Adams convinced the jury that the British did not just open fire on innocent bystanders. There was a mob harassing the British. Throwing snowballs and chunks of ice. And other projectiles. Someone knocked a British soldier to the ground. While the mob grew in size. And in intensity. Provoking the British to discharge their weapons. As much as the British killing these Americans bothered Adams so did an unruly mob. His religious teachings emphasized hard work and prayer. Not drunkenness and mob violence. However, Boston had always had drunken, unruly mobs. But they didn’t always get shot by British redcoats. So why did they this time? Because British redcoats were quartered within the city of Boston. This was the kindling that led to the mob action. Which was yet another British violation of the good people of Boston.
A Strong enough Naval Force acts like an Impregnable Fortress Wall to any Hostile Power
When the British marched to Lexington and Concord to seize some weapons in 1775 and exchanged shots with the Americans a state of war existed. The Revolutionary War had started even though their declaration of independence was another year away. Up to this time most of the trouble with the British was in Massachusetts. And some states wanted to leave it in Massachusetts. Which was a problem for Massachusetts. For they couldn’t take on the British Empire by themselves. But if the states united together they had a chance. Adams understood this. So when it came time to choose a commander for the Continental Army he looked to a Virginian. George Washington. After they voted to declare their independence he looked at another Virginian to write the Declaration of Independence. Thomas Jefferson. Understanding that they had to make this an American Revolution. Not just a Massachusetts one. For only a union of their several states could withstand the mightiest military power on the planet. But not just any union. One that would release all the latent energies of the several states. A republican union.
After declaring their independence the first order of business for the states was to replace the British governing structure. And that started with the writing of new constitutions. To make those new state governments. That could join in a republican union. Something Adams had given much thought and study to. He believed in the separation of powers between the executive, the judicial and the legislative branches. To provide checks and balances. And a bicameral legislature. A lower house to represent the common people. And an upper house to represent the rich people. With an executive to represent the state. Such that the interests of the many, the few and the one were all represented. Similar to Great Britain’s two houses of Parliament (House of Commons and House of Lords) and the king. Though, of course, having versions of these that weren’t corrupt. Thus not allowing one group of people (or person) to dictate policy to the other group of people (or person). Thereby avoiding a pure democracy and mob rule. A characteristic of a single-house legislature. As France would demonstrate during their French Revolution.
After delegating the busy work of writing the Declaration of Independence to the junior member from Virginia, Thomas Jefferson, Adams dove into the work of building a navy. What he liked to call ‘wooden walls’. For a strong enough naval force acted like an impregnable fortress wall to any hostile power. The British Empire ruled the world because the Royal Navy was the most powerful navy in the world. She could protect her coasts. Prevent the landing of armies. Keep foreign warships out of canon range of her cities. And even protect her trade routes. In a day of competing mercantile empires dependent on their shipping lanes having a navy to protect those shipping lanes made the difference between empire and former empire. As few picked fights with the nations with the big navies. Adams understood this. And he believed in it. Peace through strength. For a strong navy was a deterrent to aggressive nations.
If John Adams were Alive Today he would Likely Endorse the Republican Candidates Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan
But Adams was no warmonger. During his presidency Napoleon came to power in France and was waging war across Europe. And against American shipping. Once again Adams fought to build up the navy. To erect those wooden walls. To be able to protect American shipping on the open seas as France and Great Britain returned to war. President Washington maintained a policy of neutrality in their latest war. Adams continued that policy. Which infuriated the French. And the American people. As the French had helped the Americans win their revolution the French and the American people believed the Americans should help the French win theirs. So the French seized American shipping. And demanded tribute from the American ambassadors in France before beginning any peace discussions. When news of this leaked out to the American people (known as the XYZ Affair) the public sentiment on France changed. And soon everyone was demanding a declaration of war on France. Adams tried one more peace commission while at the same time the growing American navy fought back against French naval aggression in an undeclared war. The Quasi-War. Eventually peace came. Through strength.
Adams was pretty much everywhere in the making of the American nation. From the Braintree Instructions to supporting George Washington to winning the debate for independence to the writing of states’ constitutions to building a republican union. He helped build American naval power. And he avoided war with France when just about everybody wanted war with France. But one place he was not was in Philadelphia in 1787. Even though his constitution writing skills were second to none he did not help draft the U.S. Constitution. For he was busy in Holland. Getting the first foreign power (the Netherlands) to recognize the United States following their victory in the Revolutionary War. He negotiated a Dutch loan. Negotiated a treaty of amity and commerce with the Dutch. And established the first American-owned embassy on foreign soil.
If Adams were alive today he probably would not be a fan of the Democrat Party. And their constant use of class warfare. Especially when the top 10% of earners pay about 70% of all federal income taxes. While about 50% of the population pays no federal income taxes. This does not represent the interests of the many, the few and the one. The few pay the majority of tax revenue and have the least say in how that money is spent. Taking the nation closer to a pure democracy. And mob rule. While at the same time the Democrats use the courts to write unpopular legislation they want but can’t pass in Congress. Where a few judges can write law through court opinions. A great offense to a pure jurist like Adams. And transforming ‘the one’ into a leviathan of special interests and cronyism. Knowing how hard it was to secure loans to pay the nation’s war debt in his day he would be appalled at the size of the annual deficits and the accumulated debt today. And the constant refrain that the rich need to pay their fair share even though about 10% of all Americans are already paying approximately 70% of the tax bill. The character assassination of Mitt Romney by the Obama Campaign would be too reminiscent of the abuse he suffered through in the 1800 election. And as a firm believer in the policy of peace through strength he would not like the massive cuts in defense spending. Which will only encourage more attacks like the one on the American embassy in Benghazi. An obvious sign that our enemies don’t fear us. And are not deterred by our strength. No, if John Adams were alive today he would likely endorse the Republican candidates Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan.
