Children only care about the Here and Now and Instant Gratification
“Mom, can I eat this whole birthday cake?” “No.” “Dad, can I stay up past my bed time?” “No.” “Mom, can I go out and play instead of cleaning my room?” “No.” “Dad, can I skip my homework and play football with the guys?” “No.” “Mom, can I go to the concert with Billy and his big brother?” “No.” “Dad, can I use your table saw?” “No.” “Mom, will you buy me this micro dress for the dance?” “No.” “Dad, can I borrow the car this Friday to drive to a party?” “No.” “Mom, can I have boys in my bedroom?” “Hell no.” “Dad, can I have $50?” “For what?” “Stuff?” “What kind of stuff?” “You know, stuff.” “Oh, in that case, no.”
“No.” It is the most important word in a parent’s vocabulary. For kids want to do a lot of things that aren’t good for them. Things that will get them into trouble. Things that might hurt them. Things that may leave them with unpleasant and/or long-lasting consequences. Parents have to say ‘no’ because kids just don’t know any better. They only think about the here and now. Not about the future. They want instant gratification. They want to have fun. They don’t want to wait. They don’t want to work. And the last thing they want to do is to delay gratification.
So parents have to keep saying ‘no’ for their children’s own good. At least, responsible parents do. Because parents are older and wiser than their children. Contrary to popular belief children have about their parents. Children like to say that their parents “don’t know anything.” But they do. In fact, they know a lot. Because they were once impulsive children having the same arguments with their parents. And now that they are parents they see the world differently than they did as children. They see it as their parents saw it. And realize that their parents were right all along. Thanks to a lot more education, a lot more work experience and a lot more life experience. The things that makes one wiser as one gets older.
Children who never Grow Up as Adults tend to Remain Liberal and Vote Democrat
Children that grow up into responsible adults tend to be more conservative. They get jobs. Straight out of high school. Or after college. And party less. They cut back on reckless behavior. Such as drinking and driving. Because they realized they could get a DUI. They could hurt themselves. Or, worse, hurt someone else. If they used drugs they cut back. Some stop using them completely. They stop having casual sex with random people. In part to avoid an STD. In part because they want something more than just a good time. So they, instead, get married. And settle down. Raise a family. And it’s about this time that these one-time wild liberals start voting Republican. As they see there is a lot more to life than partying with booze and drugs. And having sex. Especially when they become parents.
Becoming a parent changes a person. Single coworkers may still want to go out and get a drink after work. They may look forward to the weekend so they can drink themselves into a stupor. But not a married person. At least, not a married responsible grownup. They want to go straight home to their wife. Or husband. They want to spend time with their kids. And they don’t want to do anything that could harm their kids. Like risking their job by coming in late hung over after a night of excessive drinking. They’d rather get to work early. Do their job. And build a successful career. That is both personally satisfying. And takes care of their family. Something sobriety helps. And our days tend to be easier when they don’t start with a hangover.
Children who never grow up as adults, on the other hand, tend to remain liberal. Focused on the here and now. Without a thought about the future. For them gratification is all that matters. These people tend to keep the wild ways of their youth. And those who go on to college take it up a notch. Away from their parents incessant ‘no’s they can finally say ‘yes’ to everything. And a lot of them do. They’ll get drunk and video things with their smartphones. And upload them to the Internet. The kind of things you once had to go to a pornography store to buy. But they and their friends will post these videos for all the world to see. And these things will still be floating around the Internet years later when they’re saying ‘no’ to their own children. Or interviewing for a job. Jessie Watters on The O’Reilly Factor has interviewed some of these young college students on spring break. Asking them questions about history. International events. Current events at home. And if they could identify members of the Federal government. Few could. Very few. Because they have more pressing things in their lives apparently than getting an education. At least based on what they’re doing with their smartphones.
Democrats only care about the Here and Now and Instant Gratification
Liberal Democrats love these kids. For they know all they want is to have fun. So they become the party of fun. Free birth control. Access to abortion. Decriminalizing marijuana. Anti-religion. No moral absolutes. Anything goes. Even encouraging reckless behavior (they’re going to have sex anyway so we might as well make it easier for them). Veritable anti-parents. Who tell these kids that they (these kids) know what’s best for them. Not their parents. And if they want instant gratification that’s okay. You don’t have to worry about the future because if you vote Democrat that’s something else we’ll do for you besides the birth control, abortion, marijuana and the lack of moral constraints. If you vote Democrat we’ll take care of you from cradle to grave. Just like that The Life of Julia slideshow promised. With so little education, work experience and life experience these kids don’t know any better and say, “Okay. Where do I vote.”
So the Democrats use these kids to stay in office. They know little so it is easy to lie to them. About the ‘evil Republicans’ that are as big a killjoy as their parents. And about how much better the Democrats are going to make their lives. If only they keep voting Democrat. So they do. Because the Democrats offer everything an irresponsible adult could want. Which is a shame as a lot of what the Democrats offer is bad for the rest of us. And the country. Their Keynesian economics fails over and over yet they keep using these failed policies of the past. Putting the country further into debt. And further depreciating the dollar. They lie to these kids about global warming. Allowing the Democrats to remain in power and pass crippling regulations. Threatening the coal industry. As well as increasing our energy costs. They want to raise the minimum wage for unskilled, entry-level jobs. Reducing the number of entry level jobs available for those looking to enter the workforce. And they want to take over our health care. The best health care system in the world. Replacing it with something not as good and more costly.
But these grand domestic plans require a lot of money. Which they often get from gutting the defense budget. Weakening our military (something they never liked to begin with) to free up money for buying votes (i.e., spending) elsewhere. They help justify this with a horrible foreign policy. Instead of peace through (costly) strength they choose a ‘please like us’ foreign policy. Marginalizing American Exceptionalism. Being kind to our enemies. And leaving our allies doubting our commitments. But if our enemies like us we won’t need a large military anymore. Allowing them to use those defense dollars elsewhere. And how has that been working out? Not good. Since the ‘please like us’ foreign policy juggernaut Egypt is in chaos. Syria is in a bitter civil war. Iran is developing a nuclear bomb. Israel is feeling abandoned. Al Qaeda is taking over Libya and Iraq. The Taliban will return to Afghanistan once the U.S. leaves. North Korea is test-firing ballistic missiles. And Vladimir Putin is restoring the Soviet Union. Because he can. Thanks to America’s new ‘please like us’ foreign policy. Instead of the peace through strength of previous presidents. Like Ronald Reagan. And JFK.
There’s something else children who never grow up do. Go into politics. Into the Democrat Party. Not the Republican Party. The party the Democrats derisively call the party of ‘no’. They join the Democrat Party. And do all of the things that give us the worst economic recovery since that following the Great Depression. And a more dangerous world. Despite this they still want to do more. Without caring what their actions may do to our future. Just like children. All they care about is the here and now. And instant gratification. So of course the Republicans are the party of ‘no’ because that’s what grownups say to children. ‘No’.

Boys love their fathers. And it’s tough losing them. Just listen to some Pink Floyd music. During the Roger Waters’ period. Whose concept albums were shaped by his experience growing up without a father who died in World War II. As the children of Britain grew up in a dearth of fathers following World War II. As so many of their fathers died in the war. Waters went on to great success. But he suffered for his art. As all great artists do. Who probably would have preferred to be happy instead of being a great artist.
The bond between child and parent is so strong that the parent doesn’t even have to die to affect the child. Just periods of separation is enough to do damage (see Military deployments tied to teens’ depression by Kathleen Raven posted 11/29/2013 on Reuters).
Adolescents who experience the deployment of a family member in the U.S. military may face an increased risk of depression, suggests a new study.
Ninth- and eleventh-grade students in California public schools with two or more deployment experiences over the past decade were 56 percent more likely to feel sad or hopeless compared with their non-military-family peers, the researchers found.
The same kids were 34 percent more likely to have suicidal thoughts.
So it would follow the more deployments (i.e., the less time the parent spends with their child) the more likely the increased risk of depression, feelings of hopelessness and suicidal thoughts. So the more time one parent stays away the less happy and the more frequent mental health issues a child suffers. With the child no doubt suffering the most should that parent die in a combat zone. Thus being removed from the child’s life forever. Sad. But intuitive. For most probably didn’t need a study to tell them this.
The same can be said about single mothers. And their children. For it is the absence of one parent from their lives that reduces the quality of their lives. Because that father isn’t there to toss the football around with him after school. To attend a tea party with her favorite stuffed animals. To be there to teach them what to do when they lose power during a thunderstorm. And make them feel safe just by being there.
We take a lot of things Dad does—or did—for granted. And the more time we spent with him the more we’re able to do the things he did when he’s no longer there to do them. So the more time we have with Dad the stronger and more able we become. The less time we have the less strong or able we become. And if he’s not there at all it is like a child losing him in a military deployment.
The Democrats attack the Republicans and claim they have a war on women. Because they don’t want to provide free birth control. Abortion. Or an expanding welfare state for single mothers. The left really doesn’t want women to have children. And if they do they want to help mothers raise their children without a father. By having the state replace the father. So women can remain free. Pursue careers. And not be condemned to stay-at-home motherhood. The left does all of these things for women. For it’s what is best for them. Without ever considering what’s best for the child. Two parents. They will do studies to prove this if they can condemn the military for the effect it has on children. But when it’s about women enjoying life to the fullest while treating pregnancy as a disease to avoid it’s a different story. And for those women who become infected with pregnancy? They don’t need a man in their life. As long as there is the reassuring embrace of government to comfort her.
The Republicans don’t have a war on women. But you could say that Democrats have a war on children. As they always put a woman’s happiness over her child’s happiness. For a child would rather grow up in a traditional family than be shuffled back and forth from daycare. Just listen to some Pink Floyd music if you don’t believe that’s true.

Once upon a time we worked so we could raise our families. Now we find someone to raise our children so we can work (see Daycare in Toronto: ‘Parent summit’ participants tell of vastly different experiences by Marco Chown Oved posted 11/22/2013 on the star).
Diana Tarango is worried. Her 4-year-old daughter is in all-day kindergarten, but because she can’t find before- and after-school care, she can’t go back to work.
Perry Wong and Nalini Nankoo are frustrated. They have been looking for a daycare space for their 2-year-old son and have put down non-refundable deposits to get on the waiting list at a half-dozen daycares. They can’t afford to keep wasting money, and their son still doesn’t have a space.
Cynthia Zhu and Kenny Ji couldn’t be happier. They’ve been in Canada for less than a year and they’ve got both their kids in subsidized daycare spots near their home.
These stories show how ineffective our patchwork daycare system is, said Councillor Shelley Carroll.
“Child care is an issue that affects us all in different ways,” she said. “That’s why we need these meetings and why we need to get people talking across generations, too.”
Parents, grandparents and even childless adults are all affected by the high cost of daycare, said Carroll, and a better system won’t just be better for families with young children, it will be good for the economy as well.
There are 57,000 daycare spaces in Toronto, only enough for 21 per cent of the city’s children under 12. The city subsidizes 24,264 of those spaces, which only covers about 28 per cent of children in low-income families.
Making matters worse, the wait-list for a subsidized spot is more than 18,500 people long…
Tarango, newly arrived from Hungary, looked into putting her younger son into daycare, but can’t believe how much it would cost.
“I was amazed when I asked the price: $1,500 per kid (per month)!” she said. “In Hungary, after one and a half years, everything is free. The daycare even provides food free, too.”
If 21% of the total number of children under 12 equals 57,000 then the total number of children under 12 in Toronto equals 271,429 (57,000/0.21). The total number of children who need daycare is 75,500 (57,000+18,500). Subtracting this number from the total number of children under 12 equals 195,929 (271,429-75,500). So the percentage of children under 12 who are raised in Toronto without daycare equals 72.2% (195,929/271,429). In other words, the vast majority of children of daycare age DON’T use daycare. Which is a good thing. And one would hope that’s because they have a stay-at-home parent raising their child in a loving household. Instead of dumping these inconvenient pains in the ass at daycare so they can do something more rewarding than parenting.
There may be many reasons why parents need daycare for their children. Single mothers may need daycare so they can work. There could be a married parent that prizes a career over raising children and prefers to work instead of being a stay-at-home parent. But perhaps the greatest reason is that parents can’t raise a family on a single income because of high taxes. Some of which are going to subsidize daycare at $1,500 per child per month. Which creates a death spiral for daycare.
Daycare isn’t cheap. So it takes a lot of tax dollars to subsidize. The high unmet demand for daycare spaces requires more tax dollars to subsidize. Which require higher tax rates. Leaving people with less take-home pay. Making it more difficult for parents to raise a family on a single income. Requiring more two-income households. And a greater demand for daycare. Requiring more tax dollars. And higher tax rates. Leaving families with less take-home pay. And so on.
The best way to provide for these children? Tax cuts. Allowing families to keep more of their take-home pay. So much that they can raise a family on a single income. Like they used to do. Before the welfare state. That provided cradle-to–grave benefits. Which, ironically, leaves working people with less. And forces their children to spend more time growing up with strangers. And less time with their parents.

If someone sees a pregnant woman smoking or drinking coffee they will give her a stern lecture. Explaining what she is doing to her baby. And telling her she must be more responsible now. For it’s just not about her wants and desires now. She is bringing a new life into the world. And she must do what’s best for her child. Yet these same people will say being a single mom is perfectly fine. Or waiting until she is 40 until she has her first child. Or if she wants to have a late-term abortion that’s a decision that should only involve a woman and her doctor. All of a sudden it’s no longer what’s best for the child but what’s best for the woman (see Survey Reveals the “Ideal Age” for Women to Have Children — and It’s Total Nonsense by Monica Bielanko, Babble.com, posted 11/13/2013 on Yahoo! Shine).
As Slate notes, according to a new Gallup poll, most Americans think that women should start having children by age 25…
Do you know what I was doing at 25?
Dancing on bars after 4 too many shots of Jagermeister. Dating as many men as possible to figure out that guys who kick in your car door probably aren’t the marrying kind. Working my way to the top of the journalism food chain, first at FOX in Salt Lake City and later ABC in New York City, both of which involved 10-hour workdays. I was traveling. New York City, Mexico, London, Italy … you get the idea. I was grabbing myself a big ol’ handful of life whilst trying very hard not to create it, because that wouldn’t have been ideal. For me…
These kinds of surveys are so annoying, yet they seem to immediately go viral and do such a disservice to women out their living their lives and making choices based on what’s right for them – decisions that likely already go against the grain of what society/our parents/religion/TV/movies tell us. Decisions like our careers, delaying motherhood, choosing to be a single mom … but that’s exactly what’s wrong with any survey related to the ideal kind of parenting: there are no absolutes. You should do what is best for your circumstances; breastfeed/don’t breastfeed, let your kid cry it out/pick him up every time he sniffles, feed him gluten/don’t fee him gluten … WHATEVER.
Ideal for me was waiting until I was in my 30s. For you, it might mean getting married out of high school and starting a family. For someone else it might mean never having kids. The ideal age to have a child is the age you finally decide you’re emotionally and financially ready to have a child.
Again, it’s all about what is best for the woman. Not her child.
When I was in the 7th grade the school counselor came to my class and asked a boy in that class to come with her. Why? She was there to tell him that his mother had died. The next few years I sweated bullets whenever someone came to my classroom looking for someone to talk to.
A few years later my sister told me about a coworker who took his family on vacation. That vacation included a visit to a National Military Park. His two young sons (5 and 7 or there abouts) were excited. For they were going to see men in period uniforms firing real muskets. As they ran up a hill with their father their father suffered a massive heart attack and died. Right in front of them. My father had just started medication for high blood pressure. Soon thereafter I went on a family vacation. And sweated bullets every time there was a steep hill or multiple flights of stairs to climb.
Losing a parent is devastating to a child. And it’s not what is best for a child. What is best are healthy parents. Fathers that can throw the football around with kids. And run up hills with them without dying. The greatest sight for most children? Coming home from school and seeing their mother waiting for them at the door (not seeing her rush in to pick up her pain-in-the-ass at daycare that made her leave work before she wanted to). This is what’s best for children. Loving, healthy parents. And the longer you wait to have your children the greater the odds a child may lose a parent during childhood. Because as we age the odds of a parent dying from cancer, heart disease, lupus, etc., grow.
Also, the longer we wait to start our families the older our own parents get. So instead of having grandparents around to help young parents older parents may be raising young children while caring for their parents, too. The next best thing to having healthy parents is having a healthy Mee-Maw and Pop-Pop to spoil a child. Not for a child to watch their Mee-Maw or pop-pop die slowly.
So what’s the ideal age to have children? It depends. If you do what’s best for your child probably when parents are under 30. If you do what’s best for you probably later in life. So your little pains-in-the-ass don’t cramp your style.

Governments everywhere on the left want state-funded daycare. As they want state-funded everything. But state-funded daycare is especially insidious. Many parents can’t raise their families on a single income. Because of high taxation in an advanced economy with a nanny state. Which has to keep raising tax rates and adding new taxes to pay for the expanding welfare state. Which is why both parents have to work. And the left’s solution to this is even more taxation to pay for state-funded daycare. When if they just shrunk the size of the welfare state parents could raise their children on a single income. And fewer things like this would happen (see Listeria found in Toronto daycare where child died posted 9/2/2013 on CBC News).
Food in the kitchen of a private daycare north of Toronto where a two-year-old girl died in July tested positive for the potentially deadly food bacteria listeria, according to an inspector’s report.
The York Region Public Health inspection also found expired food in the refrigerator and freezer and other sanitation problems at the daycare located at 343 Yellowood Circle where two year old Eva Ravikovich died on July 8.
A day after Ravikovich’s death, inspectors arrived to find inadequate dishwashing capacity, unsanitized toys and improperly stored food…
Education Minister Liz Sandals said in July that officials received three complaints in late 2012 about the number of children being monitored at the Vaughan facility.
Ministry officials only followed up on one of the complaints with a site inspection, Sandals said, calling the lack of action “unacceptable.”
Calver said the province’s failure to act decisively on previous complaints puts children at risk…
Don Giesbrecht, chief executive of Canadian Child Care Federation, said that while many unlicensed private daycares fill a need for working parents, there is little government oversight into how they operate.
Giesbrecht also said the demand for daycare spaces in Canada far outstrips supply. He added there are 900,000 licensed daycare spaces in Canada but three million children with parents in the workforce.
What’s also insidious about state-funded daycare is the true reason why the state wants to provide this. To help mothers return to work as quickly after child birth as possible. Why? Because a stay-at-home mother is not earning income that they can tax. Which is why they want these women to return to the workforce as quickly as possible. The children will be better off with a stay-at-home parent. But the state isn’t interested in children. They’re interested in taxpayers.
Now there are some women who want to return to work to continue their career. As the left has told them that a career is what defines a woman. Not providing the best possible home for a child to grow up in. One with a stay-at-home parent that loves his or her child. And doesn’t look at him or her as yet another annoying task to do like taking out the garbage. Or doing the laundry. If you’re relieved to drop your kid off at daycare so you can do what you love best then why did you ever become a parent?
Of course if we based our decisions on what was best for our children instead of what was best for us there would be no daycare. We would wait until we were married and one spouse was established in a career before even having children. But even that is not possible for everyone due to the high taxation of the welfare state. Which is the real problem here. This is why there is substandard daycare. Because the government creates such a high demand for daycare with their high taxation to support the welfare state. For one parent just can’t earn enough these days to raise a family.

According to Democrats, Republicans are at war with women. Because they hate women. For they want to restrict abortion. And they want women to pay for their birth control. Republicans also want women to marry and raise a family instead of just pursuing a career. The kind of thinking they had in the Middle Ages. And the Republicans are always talking about God and religion. Trying to shame women from enjoying their sexual side. Preferring their women barefoot and pregnant. Not out having a good time. Drinking and smoking pot as they please. And going home with anyone they please to enjoy sexually. This is what being a modern woman is all about. The freedom to do whatever the hell they want without any moral judgment. Just like a man can. Women have made progress. But they have a long way to go (see Why female potheads still feel ashamed by Hayley Krischer posted 9/14/2013 on Salon).
Here’s the thing about women and weed: Women generally don’t want to discuss their habit out of fear of being judged or compared to a cartoon. Think Milla Jovovich’s stoner character in “Dazed and Confused” — she had no lines whatsoever and merely stared off into space, and, okay, she painted a Gene Simmons face on that statue. Worse, if you’re a mother, you keep your weed habit secret because you don’t want to be seen as a negligent parent…
Though movies have portrayed men getting high in groups for decades (just this summer Seth Rogen and co. smoked their way through the apocalypse in “This Is The End”), there’s a complete lack of women who smoke weed in pop culture, as Ann Friedman points out in New York magazine: “There are a few depictions of women smoking at home as a way to blow off some steam and bond with each other…
This is exactly why a 43-year-old friend of mine, and a mom of two young boys, won’t discuss her weed smoking with other women. “I don’t want to be judged,” she says. “I think in general women are supposed to be more responsible and something about it is irresponsible…”
Perhaps, eventually, the broader acceptance of smoking weed will spread to women. Two recent examples: Lady Gaga and Rihanna both dressed up as bedazzled cannabis queens last year for Halloween. (Rihanna dressed as a weed bride with a bouquet of bud. Lady Gaga covered her nipples with sativa leaf nipple pasties.) And there’s an opportunity for women to create their own statement about marijuana in the future without feeling so, ahem, paranoid. I saw some hope after a conversation with my 21-year-old cousin, a senior at Oberlin, who says most of her girlfriends freely smoke weed. “People think it’s cool if girls smoke weed.” And then as an afterthought she added, “It might also be because of my environment.”
For the most part smoking weed is illegal. So it is irresponsible. Especially if you have children. As parents don’t want their children to see them breaking the law. For if breaking the law is okay then it must be okay not to listen to your parents, too. “Do your homework, clean your room, don’t drink until you’re of legal age,” says a kid’s parent. “But you smoke pot and that’s illegal,” says the kid. “Damn,” says the parent. “Then I guess it’s okay if you break the law and drink.”
No doubt a lot of mothers want to hide their weed habit from their kids to avoid exchanges like this. Which will be easier to do if they hide it from everyone. If she smokes with another mother this other mother could talk to her husband about her getting stoned with her friend which can be overheard by this other mother’s kid. That kid tells his friends who then tell their friends and the next thing you know they kick this stoner mother off the PTA. So it’s still an uphill battle for women to get high. But at least they are making progress elsewhere. Closing the gap between men and women. Something that should make Democrats happy (see Number of female DUIs soaring across the country, statistics show by Emily Alpert posted 9/12/2013 on the Los Angeles Times).
Women make up a bigger share of arrests for driving under the influence than they did decades ago, but little attention has been paid to how to halt or handle the trend, according to a report released Thursday.
Federal statistics showed that women constituted nearly a quarter of DUI arrests across the United States in recent years. In 1980, the number was just 9.3%, but the percentage has risen almost every year for three decades, according to data from the Bureau of Justice Statistics.
Yet most research on drunk driving focuses on men…
The Canadian group found some common threads among the female offenders: Almost all said they faced a stressful event such as a breakup or death in the family before their arrest. More than three-quarters said they used at least one prescription medication for anxiety, depression and other disorders. And more than half were single, separated or divorced.
The report also found that the women fit into three categories: young women who drink to “fit in” at house parties or bars; recently married women who drink to cope with loneliness after their children are born; and divorced older women or empty-nesters who begin to drink later in life.
When women married and raised families they were drinking and driving less. Because they were happier. For over half of the women with a DUI were single, separated or divorced. That is, they were not married and raising a family. They were not happy. And because they were not happy they drank more.
So who, then, is fighting this war on women? Those who are doing everything to make it easier to drink, get high and have sex? That leads to more unhappiness and more drinking? As well as an explosion in sexually transmitted diseases? Or those who champion marriage and family? That leads to more happiness and less drinking? And fewer sexually transmitted diseases?
You probably should ask mothers what they want for their daughters.

Every time someone dies from a gunshot the left screams we have to do something to get these guns out of the hands of people. For if people didn’t have guns no one would die. Because it’s not people killing people with guns. It’s the guns that are killing people. And the people shooting the guns just happen to be there.
This is the logic on the left. But yet when kids die in hot cars or because of the neglect of stoned parents they don’t say anything about getting rid of cars. Or getting rid of drugs (see Hot Car Baby Death: ‘Joint-Smoking Dad’ Charged posted 8/30/2013 on Sky News).
A father has been accused of leaving his baby to suffocate in a parked car in temperatures of 100F, as he smoked cannabis in a sports bar…
It was thought Gray was distracted and forgot about the boy.
But Mr Thompson said police later came to suspect Gray was smoking cannabis with a work companion during the time his son was in the vehicle.
Outside temperatures were about 100 degrees, but interior car temperatures are frequently much higher.
Parents sometimes forget about a child in the back seat of a car. Usually when there is a change in routine. People soon forget in their busy life that today they have the child. Then accidents happen. And the Democrats are to blame.
The cost of the welfare state has made it hard for a single income to raise a family. Which is why children are spending so much time in cars. Getting shuttled between childcare and home. Like laundry going to and from the cleaners. Just another chore to tend to. Because taxes are so high today that a parent can’t stay at home to raise their children. They have to get back to work as soon as they can.
And it’s been the Democrats who have been for the decriminalization of marijuana. For two reasons. A lot the hippies from the Sixties who spent their time then getting high still like to light up to get high. When they’re not busy writing the curriculum for our children’s schools. And it’s a great way to get the youth vote. By being everything a kid’s parents are not. Sure, kid, sex and getting high are okay. You vote for us and we’ll make sex and drugs a simpler part of your life. But how many frizzled parents do we want out there getting high when they drive? With their child in the back seat? No. Nothing good can come from making it easier to drive and smoke marijuana.
If it saves just one child then it’s worth doing. That’s what they say about restrictions on gun ownership. And if it’s good for guns than it must be good for marijuana. It needs to be banned. For the children.

The left keeps saying we need to have a discussion on race in this country. By that they mean they don’t want to have a discussion on race. They just want to keep saying this as they turn any incident into a racial incident. Thus keeping the races apart, not together. Why? Because if there is racism in this country then there is a need for them to end racism in this country. Which they do with a bloated and growing government bureaucracy at every level (city, county, state and federal). And how has that worked for black Americans? Not well (see Latest ACT test results reveal huge race gap as only 1 in 20 African Americans students ‘fully ready’ for college by ASSOCIATED PRESS posted 8/21/2013 on the New York Post).
Just a quarter of this year’s high school graduates who took the ACT tests have the reading, math, English and science skills they need to succeed in college or a career, according to data the testing company released Wednesday.
The numbers are even worse for black high school graduates: Only 5 percent are fully ready for life after high school…
When the testing agency broke down the results by race, fault lines emerged. Just 5 percent of black students are ready for college work in all four areas. Among American Indians, 10 percent are ready in all subjects, while 14 percent of Hispanics are ready. Pacific Islanders post a 19 percent readiness rate for all four subjects. White students have a 33 percent rate, and 43 percent of Asian-American students are ready for studies in all four subjects.
No surprise, really. For the government helps no group of people more than impoverished black Americans. And after over 40 years of trying life has gotten worse for them. Not better. And the data bear this out.
The key to wealth and prosperity is a college education. Doctors and engineers can become wealthy and prosperous. But to get to college you have to do well in high school. If you look at data from the past few years (see High School Graduation Rates, Out-of-Wedlock Births and Median Family Income posted 7/25/2013 on Pithocrates) you see a similar trend in high school graduation rates as you see in ACT test results. Asians graduated high school 93% of the time. Whites graduated 83% of the time. While blacks only graduated 66.1% of the time. Is it because Asians are genetically smarter than whites and blacks? No. It’s because of the Asian family.
Asians have the lowest out-of-wedlock births at 11.3%. While whites come in at 29.2%. And blacks come in at 67.8%. Children that have a mother and a father do better in school. Because they have more parental supervision at home. Twice as much as a single-parent household. Two-parent households are pushing their children to do their homework. To do well in school. So they can score high on the ACTs (and SATs). So they can go on to college.
A lot of single mothers are heroes. Sacrificing so much in their life for their children. But it’s hard. Much harder than a two-parent household. Where you can have a full-time income earner. And a full-time stay-at-home parent. Where two are sacrificing for their children. Instead of one. While providing a powerful male role model. Which is why more Asians are graduating and going on to college than whites and blacks. Especially blacks. Which is probably the discussion we should be having. What destroyed the black family? Who took the father out of the black household? Something facilitated that. And it wasn’t racism. Was it the coarsening of society? A bloated welfare state? A nonjudgmental attitude? Finding racism even where it doesn’t exist? All of the above? Perhaps. For it was something. It just didn’t happen.
When there was horrible segregation blacks fought and suffered to go to college. Today 95% of black high school kids just don’t care. So what’s different between then and now? The disintegration of the black family. And LBJ’s Great Society. Which tried to do good. But only ended up destroying the black family. By replacing black fathers with Aid to Families with Dependent Children (AFDC). And placing single-mothers into housing projects. Where groups of fatherless children joined together in gangs. Got into trouble. And took that trouble into their schools. This is how it started. With government. And now the Democrats exasperate it. Why? Because it gives them the opportunity to be the party trying to end racism. Giving them the black vote. Which is all they want. And they just don’t care about the lives they destroy in the process.

A generation or two ago people got married to raise a family. The husband typically earned the money. And the wife raised the family. On a single salary. A time when most children grew up in a two-parent household. Where boys grew up playing with toy guns. But never took a real one to school. Today it’s a lot harder to raise a family on a single income (see Cost of Raising a Child Up to $235K—Before College by Chris Wadsworth, special to USA TODAY, posted 12/24/2012 on CNBC).
According to the latest statistics released by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, parents will spend an average of $235,000 to raise a child born in 2011 to the age of 17. (And that’s not taking into account any savings for college).
Housing, food, clothing, health care, child care, schooling … the list of compulsory expenses goes on and on. Discretionary spending such as family vacations, birthday gifts, music lessons and the like are mostly extra…
The greatest share of these expenses is housing, which is 30 percent of the total. It’s followed closely by child care and education at 18 percent and food at 16 percent…
“Our day care expense for just our older son was over $1,000 a month,” Sutton says. “If we had put our younger son in day care as well, it would have been about $2,200 a month. That was more than our mortgage payment.”
We hear this all of the time. But we never really hear the why. Why is it that it takes two incomes to raise a family these days? Forcing parents to pay so much for day care that they could buy another house with that money. Why that house expense is so expensive. And why education and food costs so much. So let’s look at the why. And here’s why. Keynesian economics. And liberal Democrats.
Liberal Democrats champion Keynesian economics as it sanctions what they want to do most. Tax, borrow, print and spend. When Nixon decoupled the dollar from gold the great devaluing of the dollar began. In 2012 it took $8.21 to buy what $1 would by in 1955. A $15,000 house in 1955 would cost about $127,000 today. So that’s part of the reason why housing is so expensive. The other reason is that Keynesian monetary policy. Where the Federal Reserve (America’s central bank) kept interest rates artificially low to encourage people to buy houses. Which they did. In droves. Driving up the price of housing. Creating housing bubbles. The last one bursting into the subprime mortgage crisis. Giving us the Great Recession.
But it’s just not the Federal Reserve devaluing the dollar. Gasoline cost about $0.23/gallon in 1955. If you adjust that for inflation it would bring it up to $1.89 today. At the end of summer 2012 the average gasoline price was $3.72/gallon. Which is a $1.83 premium over the inflation-adjusted price. A 96.8% increase in price. What caused this near doubling in price? Well, the American Left has shut down a lot of oil drilling due to environmental issues. Raising the cost of crude oil. Which increased the cost of gasoline refined from that crude oil. Further, new environmental regulations have increased the cost of refining. Requiring a plethora of blends depending on the time of year. Further increasing the price of gasoline.
Higher gasoline prices make everything more expensive wherever gasoline is used. On the farm. The transportation from the farm to the food processor. Transportation from the food processor to the food wholesaler. Transportation from the food wholesaler to the food retailer. Transportation from the family home to the grocery store and back. High gasoline prices raise prices everywhere. And consume more of the family budget.
Education is the one industry no one every blames those in control of the industry for being greedy. No one every blames our universities for their high tuition fees. They blame the taxpayers who don’t approve higher taxes to subsidize the high cost of education. Which is high due to very generous pay and benefit packages for teachers, professors, administrators and support personnel. Much more generous than those found in the private sector. Why do they get away with this when liberal Democrats attack business owners for being greedy? Because business owners don’t have as their primary mission to produce Democrat voters.
So what is increasing the cost of raising children so much? Liberal Democrat policies. They depreciate the currency, inflate the cost of housing (and cause Great Recessions), add huge regulatory costs that increase prices throughout the supply chain and create and protect a privileged class. Consuming more and more of the family budget. Making it ever more costly to raise children.

It’s the world’s oldest profession. And a crime in most parts of the world. But a victimless crime. When it’s between two consenting adults. Of course that is open to debate as a lot of the women in the industry may have entered it in less than voluntary ways. But for the sake of the argument let’s say that it is a victimless crime and that it is always between two consenting adults. Between unmarried and otherwise unattached consenting adults. Then of course it would be a victimless crime. Prostitution. For whose business is it what two consenting adults do in private (see New Zealand sex workers, community ‘poles’ apart by Christine Roberts posted 7/17/2012 on the Daily News)?
Prostitutes have allegedly destroyed over 40 parking-sign poles in South Auckland in the last 18 months by dancing on them to solicit clients, according to a booklet endorsed by the Auckland city council and obtained by the New Zealand Herald.
The Otara-Papatoetoe Local Board of the Auckland city council published the booklet, which contains personal accounts from locals about their interactions with street prostitutes, as part of its fight to ban sex workers from soliticiting clients in areas near homes, schools and sports grounds.
“Prostitutes use these [street signs] as dancing poles,” Donna Lee, a manager of two local business districts in South Auckland told Fairfax NZ News…
New Zealand has boasted some of the most liberal sex-working laws in the world since it decriminalized the sex trade in 2003.
Lee said that business owners in her neighborhood have become so resigned to the situation that they no longer report it to local authorities and clean up their properties — which are often littered with condom, drugs and human waste — on their own…
Local John Lee said he decided to move from Papatoetoe, a suburb northwest of Manukau, when he found two people having sex on his property.
“A couple against the fence were copulating and my ten-year-old daughter was awake and screamed out at them and that’s when we decided we have to go,” he said,” John Lee told TVNZ.
Apparently that’s the problem. These consenting adults aren’t doing their business in private. They don’t appear to be very mindful of property, either. Public or private. And they’re not very clean. Or care about the environment. Littering the pristine planet with soiled condoms. Which aren’t very biodegradable.
It’s easy to say you support liberal sex-working laws. To say that you’re enlightened and liberal on social issues. Unless it’s happening around your house. In front of your daughter. Then it’s a different matter. When people are not considerate of those around them. Because we want our children to be able to enjoy being children. And not step on soiled condoms. Human waste. Or drug paraphernalia. When they step out of their home.
Everything changes when you become a parent. It’s why parents tend to be conservative on social issues. Because they have to protect their children. And it’s a whole lot easier to do when street prostitution is illegal. As well as drugs. It’s why many liberals become conservatives as they grow up. Because they become parents. And once they do their world changes. They see it’s not all about them anymore. That life isn’t just about the here and now. It’s about the future. Their children’s future. And all that stuff they rebelled about against their parents? Well, they eventually understand why their parents did what they did. And find themselves doing the same. Continuing the good fight. For their children.
