Free Speech can be an Instrument of Change
Before there was a Nazi Germany there was a German republic. The Weimar Republic. Where people were free to say anything they wanted to. In fact, it was that freedom of speech that allowed Adolf Hitler to rise to power. Who then took that freedom of speech he used away from everyone else. Pumped out state propaganda (i.e., lies). And did horrible things to people. Including to his fellow Germans who dared to speak freely.
Free speech can be an instrument of change. Hitler knew that. And used it. But knowing what an instrument of change speaking freely can be he banned free speech after he effected change with it. And then started the lying. Joseph Goebbels, the head of state propaganda, lied and he lied big. Saying that if the people heard a lie enough they would believe it. Especially a big lie.
Germans are not evil people. But they did vote for members of the Nazi Party. Of course, when they were voting for members of the Nazi Party it wasn’t the Nazi Party of the Holocaust. No. It was a much kinder and gentler Nazi Party. A party for the workers. And the people. For the Nazi Party was the National Socialist German Workers’ Party. It was nothing more than big government taking care of the people. At least, that was the lie. And the people fell for it. Giving us one of the darkest chapters in world history.
The Natural State of Life for people throughout History has been one of Oppression
As Nazi power expanded free speech withered and died. The free press became an arm of the state. Telling the people only what the state wanted the people to hear. Not what the people wanted to know. The truth. No. Instead, all the people got were lies. To advance the state’s agenda. And to squelch any discontent of the state. For the few who dared to speak up or criticize the state the Gestapo (the state police) was there to arrest, torture, imprison or kill them.
This is why truth is so important to a free people. And why it’s such a threat to an oppressive state. For the governed far exceed those who govern. So the only way a minority power can rise to a dictatorship is by cowing the people through fear and intimidation. Keeping them blissfully ignorant of the truth. And feeding them nothing but lies via the state propaganda machine. Something a free press makes difficult to do. Which is why a dictatorship shuts down free speech.
This is something as old as time. For the natural state of life for people throughout history has been one of oppression. Something our Founding Fathers were very aware of being gentlemen of the Enlightenment. And students of history. Which is why they gave us the First Amendment:
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
And a big part of the First Amendment is protection of the truth by the guardians of the truth. A free press.
The Complicit and Corrupt Media supports a Political Agenda instead of being Guardians of the Truth
The free press brought Watergate to the attention of the American people. And caused President Nixon to resign. Because of the cover-up. Not the crime. When Oliver North traded arms for hostages during the Reagan administration the free press was all over that. Irangate. A play on Watergate. And when news surfaced that the Bush family pressured the military to improve President George W. Bush’s Air National Guard service record during the 2004 presidential campaign they were all over that, too. But it turned out that this was a lie. And we now know this as Memogate. For the documents that CBS said proved this were obvious forgeries.
In other words, the media lied during the 2004 presidential campaign. To harm President Bush’s reelection chances. Making the media less of a free press and more an arm of the Democrat Party. A propaganda machine. For the mainstream media these days is less about the truth and more about Democrat propaganda. As the Obama administration has had a flurry of scandals that gets scant coverage in the free press. The IRS targeting of conservatives. Benghazi. Spying on the Associated Press. Accusing journalist James Rosen of being a criminal for reporting unflattering news leaked to him (referred to as Rosengate). Fast and Furious. The lies, misinformation and backroom deals to pass Obamacare into law. Etc.
The legacy of the Obama administration will not be the scandals. But the complicit and corrupt media. A media that was derelict in its duty to safeguard the truth. Instead choosing to disseminate lies. And ignoring news that is unfavorable to the Obama administration. Should this nation stop being exceptional. And become ordinary. Like the history before us where the natural state of life was one of oppression. It won’t be the emerging dictatorship to blame. It will be the complicit and corrupt media that allowed it to happen. By choosing lies over truth. And supporting a political agenda instead of being guardians of the truth.

The Democrat Party is the Cool Uncle that buys Booze and Cigarettes for his Nieces and Nephews
People characterize the Republicans as being a bunch of old fogies. Out of touch. Who don’t have a clue about the world today. Unlike their children
do. Who are wise beyond their years. For they know there is nothing really bad with underage drinking and smoking. Smoking marijuana. Or doing other drugs. And there is nothing wrong with casual sex. Sexting. Or nude selfies.
This is why the children of old fogies like the Democrat Party. Because the Democrats get them. Unlike their parents. Their parents tell them they shouldn’t stay out late, drink, smoke, do drugs or have sex. While the Democrats decriminalize marijuana and work to decriminalize other drugs. Provide free birth control. And abortion without parental notification. Making the Democrat Party the cool uncle that buys booze and cigarettes for his nieces and nephews. So is it any wonder that the youth vote goes Democrat?
The ironic thing, though, is that these old fogies were once young themselves. And some were pretty wild in their youth, too. But once they became parents things changed. For when it’s their daughter they don’t want her being objectified. Encouraged to explore her sexuality by having so much casual sex that she catches a sexually transmitted disease or gets pregnant. Especially if they did in their youth. Which is the last thing they want for their little girl. Who is and will forever remain their little girl.
Keynesian Economics conditioned People to accept that Government knows Best
This is the rule. Not the exception. As kids grow up fighting their parents they reach a point in life where they realize that their parents were right all along. That if they had only spent more time on their homework and less time partying things would have turned out better. Life may have been less fun in the short-run but much better in the long-run. They’d had an earlier start in their career. A career with better pay and benefits. They could have bought a house sooner. Met someone to marry and start a family with sooner. Instead of finding themselves at 25 buried under student loan debt for a degree that can’t get them a job. And a decade or so of hooking up having conditioned men to shun any serious commitment. Leading their daughters to turn to serial dating and online dating. As they struggle to find someone else who has grown up, too.
This is what the old fogies know. That their kids don’t. You get wiser with age. Thanks to education. And experience. Two things the young just don’t have. And never will. Because by the time they grow wise from education and experience they are no longer kids. But well on their way to ‘old fogery’. Which is, of course, a problem for the Democrat Party. For a wise voting public will not help them win elections. As their Keynesian economic policies have nothing but a long record of failure. Giving us the Great Depression, the stagflation of the 1970s, the dot-com recession and the Great Recession. To name a few bad economic times Keynesian economics have given us. Things older people know from education and experience. But the kids voting Democrat don’t.
Keynesian economics ushered in the era of Big Government. And did something the Socialists could not. Conditioned people to accept that government knows best. Especially young people. Uneducated and inexperienced young people. Despite the Democrats’ horrible record concerning things economic. Because of this record the Democrats use lies and deceit to attack free market capitalism. That economic system that worked better than any other. To get people who knew no better to mistrust free market capitalism. And ask for the government to fetter unfettered capitalism. To make the world a fairer place.
The Democrats use Public Education to teach our Kids to Distrust Capitalism and to Trust Government
It sounds good to the inexperienced and uneducated. Because it feels good to think in terms of fairness. And if there is one thing the young have are emotions. They like to use their hearts. Not their brains. As they are idealistic and naïve. Unlike those old fogies who are realists. They can’t be fooled or swayed by the Democrat lies because they have learned and experienced a lot in their long lives. And heard the same old Democrat lies all through those long lives. Which is why the Democrats work so hard on the youth vote. The War on Women, their lax drug attitudes, birth control, abortion, gay rights…all of these are to get the young to think in terms of fairness. To tug on their heartstrings. To get them emotional. And keep them emotional. As well as ignorant.
The more ignorant people are the easier it is to lie to them. Anyone who knows the history of Western Civilization will understand how life became better for people as we moved closer to free market capitalism. Anyone who knows classical economics will understand how thrift, savings, free trade, sound money, etc., made America the number one economy in the world. While the Keynesian policies of today are threatening to knock America out of that number one spot. People who understand these things are not going to vote Democrat. Which is why the Democrats work hard to keep people from learning these things. By constantly lying about them. And not teaching them in the institutions they control. Our public schools. And our institutions of higher education.
The Republican equation for winning votes is a difficult equation. Knowledge + Experience + Reason = Republican Votes. It’s difficult because the Democrats have long controlled public education. Thanks to their friends in the teacher unions. And their friends running our institutions of higher education. Which spend more time teaching our kids to distrust capitalism. And to trust government. To feel more. And think less. To live for today. And not worry about tomorrow. Making it very difficult for the Republicans to get young voters to vote for them. As they are unknowledgeable (thanks to our public schools), inexperienced (because they are young) and prefer emotion over reason (because feeling is more fun than thinking). Which is why old fogies (the knowledgeable, experienced and thinking) vote Republican and the youth vote does not.

Even though Hillary Clinton lied about Benghazi the Press is more Interested in Bridgegate
The Senate Intelligence Committee released its report on the 2012 attacks in Benghazi. Surprisingly, or perhaps not surprisingly, actually more of a stating of the obvious, at least for those without their heads up their backsides in blind adoration of President Obama, those who can find no fault with him or his administration no matter how many scandals and lies we catch them in, as their heads are up their aforementioned backsides, the report does not agree with the Obama administration version of what caused this tragedy (see Senate report: Attacks on U.S. compounds in Benghazi could have been prevented by Adam Goldman and Anne Gearan posted 1/15/2014 on The Washington Post).
A long-delayed Senate Intelligence Committee report released Wednesday faulted both the State Department and the intelligence community for not preventing attacks on two outposts in Benghazi, Libya, that killed four Americans, including the U.S. ambassador, in 2012.
The bipartisan report laid out more than a dozen findings regarding the assaults on a diplomatic compound and a CIA annex in the city. It said the State Department failed to increase security at its mission despite warnings, and blamed intelligence agencies for not sharing information about the existence of the CIA outpost with the U.S. military…
The document contains only one mention of then-Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton…
President Obama, Secretary of State Clinton and UN Ambassador Rice all stated publically that the attack in Benghazi was caused by a spontaneous protest over an obscure YouTube video. They didn’t say it once. They said it again and again. It was the YouTube video. Period. Which can’t be true if the State Department could have prevented this attack. For the only way that could have happened was if there were in fact identified security issues that were promptly ignored by the Obama administration. Not an unknown and unexpected spontaneous protest out of nowhere one day. So they all lied. It was planned and coordinated. And had nothing to do with that obscure YouTube video.
And yet they only mentioned Secretary Clinton once in their report. Odd considering she failed to do everything she could to protect her people and then lied about it. You’d think that would warrant more than one mention. This is big news. At least you’d think it would be. But other than a few newspapers and Fox News the media isn’t talking about how Secretary Clinton lied. Instead they are more interested if another politician lied. A governor. In New Jersey. Who the polls show is the greatest threat against a Hillary Clinton presidency. They want to know what Chris Christie knew. When he knew it. And if he lied about knowing it.
Hillary Clinton’s Incompetence and Indifference to Americans dying doesn’t Interest the Press
They call it Bridgegate. A play on Watergate. Something a young Hillary Clinton went after Richard Nixon like a hyena tearing away at the entrails of a fallen prey. Because Nixon lied. He knew about a rank amateur burglary after the fact. And then used the power of the executive branch to try and cover it up. Much like the Obama administration has done often. Only Nixon didn’t have a complicit press that would do whatever they could for their dear leader. But I digress.
Apparently the mayor of Fort Lee, N.J., didn’t endorse Governor Christie in his reelection campaign. And as payback a couple of Christie’s staffers closed some traffic lanes on the George Washington Bridge to cause the mother of all traffic backups in Fort Lee. No one died like in Benghazi. But this is what the press and the Democrats (even the Democrats outside of the press) want to know about. And some are even using the ‘I’ word. Impeachment (see Subpoenas Expected for Chris Christie Aides Over Bridge Scandal by GILLIAN MOHNEY posted 1/12/2014 on ABC News).
Legislative subpoenas could be served to the aides of New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie as early as Monday sources told ABC News today.
Christie has been under intense political scrutiny after it was revealed that some of his top political aides shut down key traffic lanes on the George Washington Bridge — the busiest bridge in the world — in September for what appear to be politically motivated reasons…
Some Democratic lawmakers are saying that Christie could face impeachment hearings if it turns out he knew about the lane closures and authorized them.
Wow. Completely different from the approach in getting answers from Secretary Clinton. Where when she finally appeared before Congress the Democrats spent more time puckering up and kissing her backside. And when she said “what difference does it make” if it was her incompetence and indifference to Americans dying or if it was some spontaneous protest where average ordinary Muslims pulled rocket propelled grenades and mortars out of their wallets and purses to storm the American mission in a military assault they applauded her moxy. Saying, “You go, girl.” Figuratively, of course.
Without an Independent and Free Press you can’t keep Government Honest
It’s not so much a double standard as it is a biased press. Much of the mainstream media today is more an extension of the Democrat Party than a free press. Who spend more time writing propaganda for the left. Democrats. Elitists who think like they think. And know as they know that they are better, wiser and more enlightened than the ignorant masses. This is why they are foaming at the mouth over Bridgegate. And ignore Secretary Clinton’s incompetence and indifference over the attack in Benghazi. She who criticized candidate Barack Obama and his lack of experience. Saying he wouldn’t know what to do if he got that 3 AM call like she would. “There’s trouble brewing in Benghazi as we approach the anniversary of 9/11? Well, what do you want me to do about it?” Or, perhaps, it was something more like this. “Tell it to someone who gives a damn.” Of course it should be noted that this trouble did not start with a 3 AM telephone call. It was a gradual buildup of trouble that she responded to with incompetence and indifference.
It’s sad what the American press has come to. Even Britain with her socialist tendencies following World War II at least still has a fierce free press. That will speak truth to power. Put their country first instead of puckering up and kissing the backsides of those in the political party they favor. Ignoring their lies, crimes and misdemeanors. Such as letting Americans die so as not to spoil the campaign narrative. Al Qaeda was reeling and in retreat. And they couldn’t allow security concerns in Libya to upset that message. So they abandoned the Americans in Benghazi. And hoped the resurgence of al Qaeda in Libya wouldn’t hurt President Obama’s reelection chances. And counted on their friends in the media not to question and disseminate the lie about the YouTube video causing a spontaneous protest that caused average Muslims to pull out rocket propelled grenades and mortars from their wallets and purses to wage war. Now contrast the sycophant American press to the British press (see David Cameron says British Press plays ‘vital’ role in democracy by Matthew Holehouse posted 1/17/2014 on The Telegraph).
“At its best, the British Press, the political Press, have a vital role to play in our country.
“Yes: rowdy, tenacious, sceptical, uncontrollable, often uncomfortable for our politicians. But British political reporting is deservedly respected around the world, for the way it probes, it inquires, it scrutinises, and these things are linchpins of our democracy…”
Mr Cameron spoke movingly of a trip he made, accompanied by political reporters including from the Daily Telegraph, to a newspaper office in northern Sri Lanka, where journalists had been murdered after criticising the government.
“It was an incredibly powerful moment. It was a reminder of just how fortunate we are in this country to have a Press that is free, that is open, that is able to stand up to the powerful.”
Without an independent and free press how do you keep government honest? How do you protect the American people from the lies, crimes and misdemeanors of government? You can’t. Instead you get propaganda that helps the powerful grow more powerful. And it eventually gets to the point that politicians no longer debate in the arena of ideas. They just look for opportunities to destroy their enemies. Challengers to their power. Like Chris Christie. Who polls better against Hillary Clinton than any other potential Republican candidate. So they attack Christies over Bridgegate. To destroy him. And they circle the wagons around Hillary Clinton to protect her from her incompetence and indifference over Benghazigate. While never worrying what their helping the powerful to become more powerful could do one day.

Having the Ability to give Beautiful Young Women Nice Things helped Charlie Harper get them in Bed
On the show Two and a Half Men there was an episode where Charlie (played by Charlie Sheen) was having a conversation with someone where he was trying to defend himself and the choice he makes in women. In broke off in mid sentence and said something like, “Yeah, you got me. Young and dumb. That’s how I like them.” Or something like that.
Charlie Harper was about 40 years old. Rich. He drank to excess. Smoked cigars. Gambled. Enjoyed strip bars and prostitutes. And he womanized. Getting beautiful young women back to his Malibu beach house for one night of passion. Which was all he wanted. One night. The ladies thought he wanted more. Because of the lies he told them to get them to his Malibu beach house. And when they left in the morning they expected Charlie to call them. But he never did. Which is why he liked his women dumb. For it was easier getting them into bed. And out of it.
Charlie was skilled in the art of picking up women. And what to do with them after picking them up. Skill gained over years of experience. And being rich helped, too. Because being able to give beautiful young women nice things (expensive dinners, going to the best clubs, spending the night at a Malibu beach house, gifts, etc.) got their attention. They liked that life. And wanted more of it. So they went to his bed with him. Thinking that by doing whatever he wanted there would be more of this glamorous life to come. But before that could happen Charlie was telling his lies to another young and dumb woman.
Every Communist Dictator that promised a Utopia to their People made their lives Absolutely Horrible
Charlie was engaged a few times. The last time he was engaged to Chelsea (played superbly by Jennifer Taylor). Who was a little older than most of the women he took to his bed. Smart. And wise. She had a career. Though he had a long engagement (for him) it did not last. Because she could do better. Eventually leaving him for someone more mature. In fact, every age-appropriate relationship he had failed. Because he did not do well unless they were young and dumb. As Chelsea said one time when leaving after a breakup, “We both knew you were going to blow it eventually.”
You can learn a lot by watching Two and a Half Men. For the world is full of Charlie Harpers. People that lie and manipulate people to get what they want. Who depend on people being young and dumb. This is how liberals have risen to power. By selling their utopian world view to the young and ignorant. Before they get old and wise. And learn the truth of their liberal utopia.
There was an article in Rolling Stone saying what America needs is full-blown communism. The author is a young guy. An academic type. Knows everything. But has experienced nothing. His head was filled with communist ideals from his leftist professors.
Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world…
But what John Lennon doesn’t sing about in Imagine is that every communist dictator that promised these things to the people made their people’s lives absolutely horrible. Where people lived in fear of the secret police. Were tortured at the hands of the secret police. And died at the hands of the secret police. Communism as an ideology has killed more people than any other dictator or ideology in all of history. Yet college kids everywhere still imagine a world where all the people live as one. Under the boot of an oppressive police state. That forces the people to live in a brotherhood of man. Or die.
Liberals are in a lot of ways like Charlie Harper because they like their Electorate Young and Dumb
Joseph Stalin terrorized his people with the KGB. The East Germans shot their own people who tried to escape climbing over the Berlin Wall. Cambodia’s Pol Pot killed a greater percentage of a nation’s population than any other dictator in history. Cubans risk their lives to float from Cuba to the United States. The masses in North Korea still suffer famine because of their oppressive Stalinist state. Where it’s the military first. Then the people. And so on. Yet college students still wear shirts with pictures of Che Guevara wearing his beret. This hero of ignorant college students. A guy who had urged the Soviets to launch their nuclear missiles at the United States during the Cuban Missile Crisis.
And when the secret police wasn’t killing their people the people were going without the most basic necessities. For their planned economies could not keep their store shelves stocked. So people went without many of the things people in Western capitalist economies take for granted. Things even ignorant college students take for granted. Things they just couldn’t get in their beloved communist utopias. Ronald Reagan won the Cold War not by waging nuclear war. He won it by creating an arms race that the Soviet economy could not keep up with AND feed her people. Like the Americans could. In fact, the American economic output was so great that they could feed all Americans with enough left over to export to the Soviet Union. So the Soviet people did not die from famine.
All throughout history free market capitalism provided a better life than any planned economy. Even in the United States. When FDR increased government spending to end a recession it only stretched out that recession into the Great Depression. Excessive government spending didn’t work in the 1970s for Nixon, Ford or Carter. Nor did it work during the Great Recession for Obama. But cuts in tax rates provided explosive economic growth for Warren Harding/Calvin Coolidge in the 1920s, JFK in the 1960s, Ronald Reagan in the 1980s and even George W. Bush in the 2000s. Yet the young and dumb buy the liberal lie that government spending can provide a better life for all despite history proving otherwise. And keep voting liberal. Until they get old and wise, that is. And start voting conservative.
Liberals are in a lot of ways like Charlie Harper. For they like their electorate young and dumb. So they can more easily lie to them. To get what they want. By making promises they never intend to keep. Such as that brotherhood of man sharing all of the world. For after a century or so of promising this the only people who ever enjoyed the liberal/communist utopia were those few in power.

The Founding Fathers were Gentlemen of the Enlightenment with Sound Philosophical Beliefs
Politicians have to win elections. They have to persuade and convince people to vote for them. Once upon a time that meant vigorous debate where candidates explained why their way was the better way. Going right back to the Founding. Where Alexander Hamilton and Thomas Jefferson bitterly contested each other’s vision for the country. And the debate often got dirty. Such as when Hamilton’s political enemies exposed his extramarital affair with the con-woman Mrs. Reynolds who seduced Hamilton with the purpose of blackmailing him. Who wanted to use this information to say he was involved in a bigger scheme with Mr. Reynolds in defrauding the federal government.
Treasury Secretary Hamilton met three gentlemen of the political opposition in private. Admitting to his affair. And proved beyond a shadow of doubt that all money paid to the blackmailers came from Hamilton’s private funds. Not a penny came from the Treasury Department. According to 18th century gentlemanly behavior the matter was closed. The affair was a personal matter. It would be imprudent to make it a public issue. But upon Hamilton’s retirement a bitter political enemy leaked this information to a scandalmonger. James Callender. Who wrote a book exposing this private matter. The History of the United States for the Year 1796. Jefferson had helped to finance Callender. And reveled in Hamilton’s scandal. But when you lie down with dogs, you get up with fleas. And Jefferson did. For Callender published articles confirming rumors that Jefferson had fathered children with his slave Sally Hemings.
Politics then were just as dirty as they are today. And often crossed the line. But underneath all the scandals and mudslinging there were philosophical principles. They did these things for principle. For they feared the opposition and what their policies would do the fledgling nation. There was political patronage and political corruption. But above that was a battle of competing political ideology. Waged by men well read in history. Familiar with John Locke. And Charles-Louis de Secondat, baron de La Brède et de Montesquieu. Icons of the Enlightenment. Whose philosophies can be found in the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution. These Founding Fathers were rich propertied men. Established in their careers. Who had little left to prove. These gentlemen of the Enlightenment did what they did not for money or political favor. So they could live a more comfortable life. They did these things out of principle. Based on sound philosophical beliefs.
The Democrats try to Scare the Bejesus out of People to Get and Keep the Republicans out of Office
It’s not like that anymore. Instead of rich successful people entering politics for selfless reasons people of no accomplishments enter politics to become rich and powerful. Who have no principles. Who will buy and sell anyone to remain in power. Of course they don’t campaign by saying this. Instead, their campaigns are based on hopes and fears. And the telling a lot of lies. With little principle. Or sound philosophical beliefs.
In 2008 President Obama campaigned on hope and change. To get away from the partisan politics of the past. Democrats continue to peddle hope. Health care for everyone. College degrees for everyone. High-paying green jobs and energy independence. A return of manufacturing jobs. Spending our way out of recession with Keynesian stimulus spending. A bigger social safety net. Talking to our enemies instead of going to war with them. And making them like us by resolving all of our differences with diplomacy. That we can have whatever we want. If only we got the Republicans out of office.
While at the same time the Democrats try to scare the bejesus out of people if we don’t get and keep the Republicans out of office. For the Republicans want to take away birth control and abortion from women. And keep them from being independent and having careers. The poor will remain poor. The rich will get richer. And the hungry will die. Slavery will be reinstituted. The Republicans will tax the middle class more so they can give tax breaks to rich corporations. They will burden the nation with massive deficits with their tax cuts for the rich. Global warming will continue unchecked. Our drinking water will be polluted. And our atmosphere will become poisonous to breathe. All because Republicans put profit before people.
The Left tells a lot of Lies to Win Elections because all they have are Failed Keynesian Economic Policies
Republicans, on the other hand, peddle the hope that we can return to the prosperity of Ronald Reagan. By cutting tax rates. For throughout U.S. history whenever the government cut tax rates prosperity followed. As well as flooded the treasury with tax dollars. For contrary to the fear peddling of the Democrats cuts in tax rates have historically increased tax revenue. And can again. As Ronald Reagan campaigned in 1984, it can be Morning in America again. We can be prouder, stronger and better.
While at the same time Republicans like to scare people with national security issues. The Clinton administration handled terrorist attacks against America in the courts. Which emboldened America’s enemies into an escalation of attacks resulting in 9/11. The one in 2001. Not the attack in 2012 on the U.S consulate in Benghazi. While the Democrats believe our enemies hate us because George W. Bush made them hate us with his cowboy swaggering ways. And that was the only reason. Even though Bush had little time to swagger before the attacks on 9/11. Those in 2001. Not the ones in 2012. The Republicans say our enemies hate us for who we are. As we are too Christian. And allow our women to have careers and use birth control and abortion. Something our enemies won’t allow their women to have.
President Obama did not end partisan politics. He lied about that. For his administration has been perhaps the most partisan in U.S. history. With no interest whatsoever in compromise. He and the Democrats continue to lie about the Reagan tax cuts. And the Bush tax cuts. Blaming tax cuts for all our woes. And our deficits. Despite those tax cuts increasing tax revenue. They lied about a war on women. Having one of their cronies in the mainstream media create it by asking Mitt Romney if he wanted to take away women’s birth control. And they continuously spread the lie that the rich aren’t paying their fair share in taxes. When the top 10% of income earners pay about 70% of all federal income taxes.
So the Left tells a lot of lies to win elections. Because that’s all they have. They do not have a Morning in America they can talk about. Just failed Keynesian economic policies. Like the 4 years of Jimmy Carter. The 4 years of President Obama. And what may have been the 4 years of Bill Clinton had it not been for the Republicans taking control of Congress 2 years into his presidency. Of course the Republicans can tell a lie, too. The big one being their claim of being conservative like Ronald Reagan. As they too often fall for the lies coming from the Left. And appear more interested in living a comfortable life than sound philosophical beliefs.

When you start Playing with the Meaning of Words it’s usually because you’re Trying to Lie
When President Clinton committed perjury when denying having sexual relations with Monica Lewinsky he tried to play with the meaning of words. Saying it depended on what the meaning of ‘is’ is. Clinton was a lawyer. Like most politicians. Who like to parse their words. To twist their meanings. So they can say one thing. While they mean the complete opposite. Clinton said he did not have sex with Lewinsky even though he had. But the words he used could be parsed to both say he did and did not have sex with that woman. Monica Lewinsky. Lewinsky’s blue dress with Clinton’s semen on it, though, proved he was lying despite his nimble linguistic gymnastics. And the House of Representatives impeached Clinton. But the Senate didn’t have the votes to remove him from office for his perjury. Nor did he resign as Richard Nixon did after he was caught in his perjury.
In George Orwell’s Nineteen Eighty-Four the oppressive socialist state did the same thing. Play with the meaning of words. To make lying easier. The Ministry of Love was like the Gestapo in Nazi Germany or the Stasi in East Germany. Institutions that tortured and instilled fear into the people. Which was for the people’s own good. For the state loved the people. At least that’s what the state said while they were torturing and abusing the people. The Ministry of Plenty was responsible for the empty store shelves and the constant hunger gnawing in the people’s bellies. The Ministry of Peace waged perpetual war. And the Ministry of Truth was the state’s propaganda arm in charge of state censorship. Advancing the state’s lies. Like Joseph Goebbels did in Nazi Germany.
Words mean things. And when you start playing with the meaning of words it’s usually because you’re trying to lie. Trying to advance an unpopular agenda by disguising that agenda in a cloak of disarming words. You can trust anything coming from the Ministry of Truth as the word ‘truth’ is in its name. And you have nothing to fear from the secret police as the branch of government they work under is all about love. And when the state tells you over and over again that it is a moneyed upper-class that is the cause of everything that is wrong in your life you start believing it. Whether that moneyed upper-class are rich capitalists and bankers. Or Jews in 1930s Germany.
The Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush Tax Rate Cuts brought in Record Tax Revenues into the Treasury
Liberal democrats like to tax and spend. They believe in big government. They like it big like it is in Europe. Where they have socialism-light. Social democracy, they call it. A big, expansive welfare state funded by high tax rates. When taxes can’t pay for all their spending they borrow money. When they can’t borrow any more they start printing money. As a result of this excessive state spending most of Europe is mired in a sovereign debt crisis. Many nations are so broke that they have no choice but to cut back their spending. Which is sending people into the streets rioting.
This is where the U.S. is heading. Most people who understand economic fundamentals know this. And vote against going further down this European road. But there are a lot of people who don’t understand economic fundamentals. They listen to their Ministry of Truth. The Democrats, the public schools, college professors, mainstream media and the entertainment establishment. Who all lean left. And who all say the only problem we have is a moneyed upper-class who aren’t paying their fair share. Though the top 10% of income earners pay about 70% of all federal income taxes. Something the state doesn’t mention when they say they aren’t paying their fair share. So the people don’t know that they pay 70% of all federal income taxes. And they are more willing to believe their Ministry of Truth.
The public schools, college professors, mainstream media and the entertainment establishment do their part, too. By revising history. They note the deficits of Ronald Reagan in the Eighties. And blame those deficits on the Reagan tax rate cuts. But what they don’t tell the people is that after those cuts in tax rates the amount of tax revenue (money coming to Washington from taxpayers) nearly doubled. President Obama and his Ministry of Truth blame all of our economic woes on George W. Bush’s tax rate cuts. But what they don’t tell the people is that the treasury collected a record high in tax revenue under George W. Bush. Proving that cuts in the tax rates did not cause any fiscal harm. It was the greater increases in spending that caused all of the harm.
Democrats want to Raise Taxes on Everyone because they are Tax and Spend Liberal Democrats
Under baseline budgeting increases in spending amounts are automatic. Every year they go up. And they never go down. So when the politicians decry proposed draconian spending cuts there are no real cuts in spending per se. What they are proposing to cut is the rate at which to increase spending. Say, instead of an automatic 7% spending increase they will only increase spending 5%. Spending will increase 5%. But those in government call it a 2% spending cut. Which is why despite all of the spending cuts ever enacted (and there hasn’t been a lot of them) the federal debt has never gotten any smaller.
So an increase in spending can be a spending cut. But the Orwellian doublespeak doesn’t stop there. Those on the Left call tax cuts increases in government spending. (Interestingly, the only kind of spending the government can never afford.) Here’s why. Excessive spending causes deficits. And if they cut tax rates they believe less money will flow into the treasury. Thus increasing the size of the deficit. Ergo, spending and tax cuts are the same because both increase the deficit. Of course that’s a fallacy. As proven by Reagan and Bush. Who actually increased tax revenues by cutting tax rates. How? Lower tax rates encourages more economic activity. More people are working and paying taxes. Resulting in a higher tax revenue overall.
Currently President Obama and his Ministry of Truth are saying that the Republicans are fighting against a middle class tax cut to give the richest 2% a tax cut. Which isn’t exactly true. There are no tax cuts on the table. The George W. Bush tax cuts are expiring. If they expire everyone’s taxes will go up. The president wants to extend these tax cuts. But only for the middle class. Unfortunately, there are many small business owners whose business earnings flow to their personal tax returns. Which puts them into the richest 2%. But most of that money never comes out of their business. They may be taxed as rich people. But they live middle class lives. Because they reinvest their earnings into their business. To buy new equipment. To expand their business. And to hire new people. This is why Republicans don’t want to raise taxes on these small business owners. For it’s these small business owners who provide the majority of jobs in the economy. And increasing their taxes will only hurt the economic recovery.
The Republicans offered to increase tax revenues by revising the tax code to eliminate certain deductions. Providing the amount of revenue the president was asking for. But the president refused. For he wants those increases in the tax rates. To complete the revision of history by ‘righting the wrongs’ of the Reagan and the Bush administrations. To further the lie about the Reagan and Bush tax cuts. But there’s another reason. The amount of revenue he’s asking for now (whether it’s from eliminating deductions or increasing tax rates) won’t make a dent in the deficit. Or the debt. The only way they will be able to do that is by increasing taxes on the middle class. Which will be a lot easier to do after they raised taxes on the rich. Which is what they want to do. Raise taxes on everyone. Because they are tax and spend liberal Democrats. But as most people don’t vote for people that want to raise their taxes, they lie. And play with the meaning of words. As liars do. And the politician that plays with the meaning of words most is the politician that is lying the most.

Moderates just want to Get Along with Everyone and Believe in Consensus and Bipartisanship
Moderates are people who like to pick and choose. A little from this philosophy. And a little from that philosophy. For example, a moderate Catholic may approve of abortion. Because they disagree with the extreme view of no abortions in Catholicism. Of course, there is no such thing as being a little bit Catholic. Just like you can’t be a little bit pregnant.
A moderate, then, has no philosophical basis. And doesn’t have a definite opinion. They don’t know what they want. But they know what they don’t want. Extreme opinions. Even just your run of the mill opinions. To them everything is just an opinion. And no opinion is right. Or wrong. It’s just an opinion. And they don’t like to face the extreme unpleasantness that is life. They’d rather avoid addressing problems that can make life unpleasant. So they procrastinate. And are great procrastinators. Their motto is this. Why solve today what we can solve tomorrow? And then they hope that tomorrow never comes.
Moderates just want to get along with everyone. They believe in consensus. Reaching across the aisle. Bipartisanship. For they believe that there is a middle ground in every issue. And they desperately seek the middle ground to avoid confrontation. Which means that you can lie to them. If you tell them what they want to hear. And they will believe you. Because they want to believe you. Especially if you’re telling them what they want to hear.
Adolf Hitler lied Charismatically to Win Votes and Seize Power
Moderates are good people. Who can be led astray. Such as in Nazi Germany. The vast majority of Germans were not Nazis. If they were they wouldn’t have needed such an oppressive police state. And there would have been no Gestapo. But there was a police state. And a Gestapo.
Most Germans just wanted to work. And support their families. Which was hard to do coming out of World War I, the Great Depression and hyperinflation. Caused by Keynesian policies. That is, printing money. To pay their war reparations per a rather harsh Versailles Treaty.
Adolf Hitler knew how to sweet talk the masses. Tell them what they wanted to hear. And he did. He was charismatic. A populist. Could give a great speech. And he lied through his teeth. The people heard what they wanted to hear. And they voted for him. That’s right. Hitler didn’t seize power in a military coup. He seized power by winning votes. And passing populist laws. After he had failed to seize power in a military coup.
Moderates may not Know what they Want but they Sure Know what they Don’t Want, such as National Health Care
In the U.S. the moderates typically determine elections. Because about 40% of the people are limited-government conservatives. About 20% are big-government liberals. And the rest are moderates. And they tend to vote Democrat. Because the Democrats say the things they want to hear. Consensus. Bipartisan. Working together to solve the people’s problems.
Some big-government liberals run as conservatives during elections. And they lie so well that often a large percentage of these moderates vote Democrat. Because, for some reason, they want to vote conservative. But only if the conservative is a Democrat.
Both Bill Clinton and Barack Obama campaigned as moderates. In fact, some even compared Barack Obama to the great Ronald Reagan. A conservative Republican. And it worked. Clinton and Obama won their elections. By lying. They campaigned as limited-government moderates. But they governed as big-government liberals. They swung so far to the left that they both lost their mid-term elections. Clinton lost the midterms for trying to pass Hillarycare. And Obama loss the midterms for passing Obamacare.
The moderates may not know what they want. But they know what they don’t want. And they sure don’t want national health care.
The Consequence of having no Philosophical Basis is that Decisions are based on Populist Views and Feelings
Moderates don’t like extreme opinions. Like the government can’t spend money it doesn’t have. So Democrats campaign saying they will get the rich to pay their fair share. Which sounds good. Because moderates aren’t rich. They’re hardworking middle class people. So moderates vote Democrat because it seems like the nice thing to do. The fair thing to do. So the government continues to spend money it doesn’t have. Knowing that they can continue in their irresponsible ways as long as they can get moderates to believe their lies.
This is the consequence of having no philosophical basis. Decisions are based on populist views. And feelings. Which a cunning big-government liberal politician can always exploit. And they have to if they ever hope to win an election. For they aren’t going to convert the 40% of the people who are limited-government conservatives. Because limited-government conservatives actually believe in something. And tend to be impervious to their lies.

A Despot needs a Mob
A despot can’t rise to power alone. Because there is only one of him. Or her. A despot needs a mob. Either to take power by force. Or to vote him or her into office. And unless the despot is in a despotic/third world country, the taking of power by force is not an option. Military coups are just not that common in first-world democracies. Mainly because no one’s life is that bad where they would risk the punishment for treason. Because things like that will stay on your permanent record. Doesn’t look good on a resume. And treason can get you killed.
So, in a democratic country, you need to get people to vote for you. Because the path to power is through the ballot box. Even Adolf Hitler got his power in an election. And he did that by lying. Well, if you read his book (Mein Kampf), you had an idea. Because he pretty much spilled his guts out in that book. But few read it, apparently. Even though it became a best seller. After the fact. When he had already ascended to power and it became required reading. Or, required ownership. It was the Nazi Bible. Everyone had to have one. Though few read it.
So how did Hitler rise to power? He made the people like him. And took advantage of some crises. The armistice that ended World War I. The Versailles Treaty reparations. The Great Depression. Things that really hurt the German people. Made them angry. Looking for relief. And Hitler promised it. Delivered in some magnificent oratory. He hypnotized the masses with his speeches. He knew what was wrong. And it wasn’t the people’s fault. It was others who wronged them. The Allies. The politicians who stabbed Germany in the back at Versailles. And, of course, the Jews.
Class Warfare works because it’s Emotional
It’s a winning formula. Take advantage of a crisis. By blaming it on someone. It doesn’t really matter who. As long as it is a small voting bloc. And, of course, championing the little guy. Being their voice. Say the things they would like to say. Say what they want to hear. And who is the little guy? None better than the poor. Because there are always a lot of them. And a lot of them are uneducated. But they know one thing. Rich people have a better life. And an easier life. While they have little. And have a harder life. Anyone can see how that isn’t fair. Anyone that is poor, that is. And anyone looking to exploit the poor.
There’s a reason why class warfare has been successful. It works. It’s irrational. Illogical. But it’s emotional. Which is how you win elections. By tapping into the feelings of the masses. You don’t want them to think. You want them to feel. To feel their wrath. Their frustrations. Their hopelessness. For them to feel how unfair life is. How those in power (the politicians, the rich, the Jews, etc.), are keeping you down so they can live a privileged life. It’s powerful. And wins elections.
Of course, it’s often nothing more than a bunch of lies. A complicated formula of treaties started World War I. After the assassination of an Austrian duke. In contested land in southeast Europe. The Balkans. A great historical crossroads of culture and religion. That everyone and his brother has laid claim to since time immemorial. It was a mess getting into. And a bigger mess getting out of. It had less to do with Jewish bankers. And more to do with territorial ambitions of empires. Which Germany had. As did Hitler. But that doesn’t go over well with the masses at election time. Because history is boring. No one wants to hear about it. History is old. About a time long ago. The voters don’t want to hear about that. They want to know what you are going to do for them now. What are you going to do about their anger and frustration now?
The Power of the Lie
Well, you lie, of course. You have to. Because an angry and frustrated people want some kind of relief. And they’re going to vote for the person who promises to give them the most. They’re not going to vote for someone that is going to take away their freedoms and make them live in a police state. I mean, if Hitler had told the truth in one of those magnificent speeches instead of putting it in a book that was painful to read, people would have heard the truth. And it would have made a difference at the ballot box. “So, Heinz, who are you going to vote for? The Independent (Hindenburg)? The Communist (Thälmann)? Or the Nazi? That guy that’s going to create the Gestapo that will oppress us and make us live in fear? And conscript us and send us away to fight in a world war while our cities are bombed?” “Hmmm, I don’t want a harder life, Günter, so I’ll probably vote for the Commie or the Independent.” Incidentally, the vote tally in 1932 was as follows: 53.1% (Independent), 36.7% (Nazi) and 10.1 % (Communist). Hitler didn’t win the presidential election. But because of the large vote he got, Hindenburg reluctantly made him chancellor. Proving the power of the lie. And the rest is history.
No one willingly votes for a harder life. And that’s what a despot will do once elected. Because the despot wants power and wealth. Not to help the poor. The poor are only a convenient tool to use during an election. So the despot must lie. And because they are lying and have no intention of following through on any of their promises, the sky is the limit. They can promise anything. Even things that are impossible to do. And attack the rational plan of the opposition as radical and extreme. So they appeal to the emotions. And attack the rational. That’s why dictators in third-world nations round up intellectuals, college professors, students and anyone with glasses (a sign that they can read). They don’t want people thinking. They want them feeling. Feeling their anger. And feeling their frustration.
And this is why they win elections. For people would rather hear a pleasant lie than an unpleasant truth. Because it feels better. Vote for me and I will give you a free college education, a housing subsidy, a shorter work week, a longer summer vacation, a younger retirement age, a richer pension and, of course, free health care for everyone. We’ll pay for it by taxing the rich. And we’ll tax them so much that we’ll be able to cut your taxes. People like that message. Those who don’t consider themselves rich, at least. They don’t want to hear that the country is broke. That we can’t afford these generous benefits anymore. They want to hear yes we can. If only the rich pay their fair share.
Pushing People down into Poorer Classes
Of course, the problem becomes that dividing line between the rich and everyone else. Because the rich are the bad guys. The ones living the comfortable life without having to work hard. They’re easy to demonize. The poor have no love for them. But the middle class is another story.
The middle class is the sweet spot of the population. They’re not rich. And there are a lot of them. More importantly, they’re not poor. And they vote. So what to do? If you lump them in with the rich when you attack the rich, they may not vote for you. But politics is about one thing. Money. And you get it by increasing taxes. The rich are taxed so much that raising rates on them does little. They got rich because they’re smart with money. And they will only pay so much in taxes. And the poor are poor. No, if you’re going to increase taxes, you have to do it on the middle class. So you do. After the election. After the lying. Then you raise their taxes. So much so that you force those at the bottom of the middle class into the poor class.
For this is the goal of the despot. To push people down into poorer classes. Push some of the rich into the middle class. And a lot of the middle class into the poor class. Then you champion the poor. Attack the rich. While taxing the middle class. Those you allow to remain rich become your cronies. As in crony capitalism. Who lavish you with wealth in exchange for government contracts. While the middle class toils away for less. And the poor look up to you as their savior. Grateful that you’re one of them. Even though you live in a palace. While they don’t. And even though their lives are still pretty wretched, the rich at least got theirs. Sure, it doesn’t put food on the table. But it feels good.

“DO THESE JEANS make my ass look big?” Men don’t like this question. And when their wife or girlfriend ask it, they know to tread lightly. Unless the relationship is on the outs. In which case they may answer with something like, “No, it’s your fat ass that makes those jeans look big.”
If the man cares for the woman. If he loves her. If he ever expects to have sex with her again, he’ll say something nice. No matter how much more of her there is to love back there. It’s called a white lie. Normally, we don’t base our relationships on lies. But when it comes to the butt, though, lies are good. They spare hurt feelings. Should a person’s genes not bless them with a heavenly derriere to display in a tight pair of jeans.
White lies don’t hurt people. In fact, we use them in order not to hurt people. Such lies don’t have consequences. And people may know you are lying. Even expect you to lie. It shows you care enough to make someone feel better about something you know they’re sensitive about. Like her big butt. Or his performance in bed (“Whew, that was the best five minutes of my life. Really.”).
WHEN YOUR CHILD IS learning a musical instrument, he may make more noise than music. But you encourage him. Or her. You tell them they’re good. That they’re getting better every day. And, yes, you would love for them to play in front of your visiting family. And when they do, the family applauds and tells them they’re good, too. Your child is encouraged. And he or she keeps practicing. A little white lie and no one gets hurt.
Suppose your daughter wants to sing. She listens to the reigning pop queens and sings along. Only thing is, she’s tone deaf. She doesn’t sing well at all. In fact, when she does sing, you start looking for a hurt cat because you’re sure no human could make such inhuman noise. But you don’t want to hurt her feelings. And you’re sure it’s just a passing phase. So you tell her how wonderful she sounds. No one gets hurt. Nothing can go wrong with that, can it?
Well, suppose her school is having a talent show. Anyone can simply walk up to an open mike and do whatever they want. And she wants to sing. In front of her friends. In front of her classmates. In front of the 2 kids that always tease her. Now the issue is a little more complex. Do you tell her the truth about her singing and hurt her feelings. Or do you let her sing. And risk the kids laughing at her. And teasing her about it afterwards?
BUT IT’S NOT just the white lies we want to hear. Say your husband is staying later and later at work. You call to see what time to expect him for dinner but there’s no answer. When he comes home late you tell him you were worried. You called and there was no answer. He apologizes for worrying you and says he was with a client. You’re relieved.
Or you come home from work and your wife isn’t there. Concerned, you call her and there’s no answer. When she comes home she says she was at the gym with a friend and left her cell in her gym bag. You’re relieved. Then she goes upstairs to shower. Funny, you think. She usually showers at the gym.
Learning about infidelity is not easy. And it’s painful. You ignore signs as long as you can. You believe the lies. You want to. You need to. Then you find an earring in the car that isn’t yours. Or you bump into your wife’s friend who says she misses her now that she quit going to the gym. Soon, the evidence forces you to face the awful truth. And it kills you inside. Divorce. The children. It’s just the beginning of so much bad to come.
SO WE LIKE it when people lie to us. At times. For the truth can be disagreeable. Ugly. Painful. And we’d rather not have that pain. No, we’d rather live life in a sitcom where there is always a good laugh and rarely anything bad ever happens.
Politicians know this. They know that most people don’t like the harsh realities of life. So when they need to get elected, they lie to us. No one wants to pay more taxes. So the politicians promise that only the rich will pay any new taxes. But massive government spending requires massive taxation. And taxing the rich just can’t pay for it all.
George Herbert Walker Bush promised no new taxes. He said, “Read my lips. No new taxes.” He raised them. Didn’t want to. Said he had to. To balance the budget. Because he and Congress didn’t want to cut spending. Same with Bill Clinton. He promised there would be no middle class tax increase. But there was. He said he tried as hard as he could not to but had to. Again, the spending thing. No one wants to cut spending. It doesn’t help win elections.
But we wanted to believe the lie during the campaign. They promise us everything and say it won’t cost anything. That’s what we want to hear. We don’t want to hear the intricacies of monetary and fiscal policy. That increased taxation dampens economic activity. Decreases incentive for risk takers. So they take fewer risks. Create fewer jobs. Which increases unemployment. But we don’t want to hear this. We just want the free stuff. Just promise it. Tell us it’s free. And we’ll vote for you.
LITTLE WHITE LIES have little consequence. We say them because we care about someone. Other lies, though, do. Big ones. If we fall for them. If we believe in an ever-expanding welfare state, we’ll keep voting ourselves the treasury. Until we’ve emptied it. And when there’s no more money, we’ll say, well, it was nice while it lasted. But all good things must come to an end. Or we’ll riot.
Or we’ll cut spending elsewhere to fund our insatiable appetite for free stuff. Maybe we won’t build a new aircraft carrier. Or we’ll close an overseas Air Force base. Or we’ll reduce the size of our conventional forces. Because we’ve been lulled into a false sense of security, we may think a large standing army is not necessary anymore. But it was that large projection of force that gave us that sense of security. It scared the bad guys. Because the ability to project force, and the will to do so, will create consequences if the bad guys do act.
During the dot.com boom of the 1990s, times were good and we got complacent. During those good times, though, the bad guys hit Americans in a series of attacks (World Trade Center bombing, Tanzanian Embassy bombing, Kenyan Embassy bombing, Khobar Towers bombing, the USS Cole attack). We didn’t fight back. We lied to ourselves. We didn’t want to believe that America was under attack. Head in the sand, we wanted to continue to enjoy the good times. This only emboldened our enemies. They saw that America didn’t have the will to fight back. So they upped the ante. And in 2001, they attacked on 9/11. And that attack was just too great not to awake a slumbering giant.
WE MAY NOT like the unpleasant things in life. But they are part of life. And we have to deal with them. However unpleasant they are. They are what they are. No matter how we try to rationalize them away.
