Chicago is adrift in a sea of blood. Despite their strict gun laws there is an epidemic of gun violence in the city. And the reason for this, say those on the left, is the availability of guns elsewhere. Guns that are brought into Chicago and get into the hands of innocent young kids. Forcing them to leave their peace-loving ways. That’s the problem. Get rid of all the guns and those kids will stay peace-loving and as pure as the wind driven snow. For without guns there can be no violence. Because what person would never think about picking up a knife (see Impose tougher sentences for knife crimes, says top judge by David Barrett posted 4/16/2014 on The Telegraph)?
The most senior judge in England and Wales has called on magistrates to impose tougher sentences for youths who carry knives.
Lord Thomas of Cwmgiedd, the Lord Chief Justice, said more severe punishments could help cut the “prevalence” of such crimes.
In a ruling at the Court of Appeal in London, Lord Thomas said: “Given the prevalence of knife crime among young persons, the youth court must keep a very sharp focus, if necessary through the use of more severe sentences, on preventing further offending by anyone apprehended for carrying a knife in a public place and to securing a reduction in the carrying of knives.”
Chris Grayling, the Justice Secretary, has previously expressed his concern about knife criminals being handed cautions and other non-custodial punishments.
Mr Grayling brought in new measures in December 2012 which were designed to impose mandatory jail sentences on anyone who uses a knife or offensive weapon to threaten and endanger others.
Britain has very strict gun laws. It’s like Chicago writ large. So people can’t go to a part of Britain where there are lax gun laws. Buy guns. And taking them to another place in Britain that has strict gun laws. Even their police don’t carry guns while walking a beat. They do, however, have units that carry guns. In response to rising gun crime. But it’s the knife crime that Britain is struggling with. And much of the knife violence in Britain is due to the same cause of the gun violence in Chicago. Gangs.
Is knife violence preferred over gun violence? Perhaps. No doubt it is more difficult to stab an innocent bystander in a ‘drive-by’ stabbing. But because knives are so easy to get almost any gang member can carry a knife. And anyone with mental health issues can easily pick one up in most any kitchen. And cause harm. As in Calgary and Regina, Canada. And in Murrysville, Pennsylvania.
It’s not the guns or the knives that are causing people to harm others. These people are just determined to cause harm. You can try to take away every conceivable weapon but if they want to cause harm they will find a way to cause harm. Which is what we should be doing. Trying to prevent them from causing harm. Not just trying to prevent one way they can cause harm. With guns.

There was another senseless act of violence in our schools. Giving the pro-knife control lobby further ammo to take away our knives. Actually, no. Only senseless gun violence shifts the discussion away from the perpetrator. And onto the thing the perpetrator used. The gun. And not the underlying cause for this violence. Mental health issues. Which is why no one is talking about taking our knives away now after this senseless act of violence (see After Pennsylvania school stabbing, authorities and community ask: ‘Why?’ by Pamela Brown, Mary Kay Mallonee and Chelsea J. Carter posted 4/11/2014 on CNN).
A day after a Murrysville, Pennsylvania, teen allegedly rampaged through his high school’s hallways, stabbing wildly with two kitchen knives, the first hints of a possible motive began to emerge.
The attorney for 16-year-old Alex Hribal raised the specter that his client may have been bullied, telling CNN affiliate WTAE in Pittsburgh on Thursday that it looks like some kind of “bullying event” may have played a role.
“I think a lot of things have happened. I don’t want to comment specifically, but I think there are some things that occurred that led to where we are today,” Patrick Thomassey said.
But an FBI official, familiar with the investigation, discounted bullying as a motive.
“He was disaffected but not bullied,” the official said on condition of anonymity…
Some classmates at the school describe Hribal as having few friends and being quiet but also as a “really nice kid,” a description that contradicts the image of a knife-wielding teen offered by authorities…
Another student at the school who witnessed the attack said the attacker didn’t utter a word.
“He was very quiet. He just was kind of doing it,” Mia Meixner said. “And he had this, like, look on his face that he was just crazy and he was just running around, just stabbing whoever was in his way.”
According to Dan Stevens, the county deputy emergency management coordinator, Hribal had a very minor Facebook presence and didn’t have much experience on Twitter…
Westmoreland County District Attorney John Peck has argued against bail, saying that there could be no conditions that would protect the community and that Hribal made “statements when subdued by officials that he wanted to die.”
Mentally healthy people don’t do things like this. So it is safe to say that this person has a mental health issue. The FBI says he was ‘disaffected’. Which means he was resentful and rebellious. Perhaps having a problem with authority. He might have been bullied according to his lawyer. But his fellow classmates say he was quiet and really nice. Even though he had a minor Facebook presence. And little experience on Twitter. So he was a loner. Perhaps lacking social skills. Had he been bullied you’d think they may have said something like, “Yeah, I’m not surprised he did that with the way he was bullied.” But they didn’t. Another student said he looked crazy when he was running around stabbing people. Perhaps cracking after years of suppressing whatever he was suppressing behind that quiet and nice facade.
No one knows why he did what he did yet. But one thing for certain, you can’t blame this on easy access to guns. In fact, if the government took away all of our guns this would have still happened. Because the one commonality to all of these senseless crimes isn’t guns. It’s some underlying mental health issue. Because mentally healthy people just don’t do things like this.

Liberal Democrats want to take away our guns. In fact they’d like to repeal the Second Amendment. For people having guns in the household leads to gun crime. They like to point to Tucson, Aurora, Virginia Tech and Sandy Hook. Crimes they say would not have happened if there were no guns. Take away the guns and you take away these crimes. And you make our households safer. For without guns in the home there is no chance for domestic violence. There will be no women being shot by angry men. And no children dying if a parent goes off in a fit of anger and shoots them. For if there are no guns there can be no violence. The left believes this. At least they keep telling us this.
For guns make people kill. And without guns there will be nothing to make people kill. Luckily for the British they have no guns in their households. And live a life of peace and serenity the Americans can only dream about (see Domestic violence puts 10,000 at high risk of death or serious injury by Sandra Laville posted 2/26/2014 on the guardian).
More than 10,000 women and children are at high risk of being murdered or seriously injured by current or former partners, according to police assessments obtained by the Guardian…
But the figures obtained are likely to be an underestimate as domestic violence is heavily under-reported and police forces appear to gather and collate the information in several different ways, despite demands for a national protocol on assessing the risk to victims. The snapshot obtained by the Guardian reveals the acute nature of the threat of domestic violence for thousands of women and children…
Last year a coroner in Derbyshire found that police failures had contributed to the deaths of Rachael Slack and her two-year-old son, who were stabbed to death by her estranged partner. Slack had also been assessed as at high risk of homicide, but officers failed to inform her.
Or maybe not.
The obvious response to stop this domestic violence is to take away knives from British households. For apparently taking away their guns wasn’t enough. Then they should probably take away rope from the home. For they may make someone strangle someone. Blunt instruments, too. For they can make people kill, too. And poisons. Got to remove them from the home. Of course a man can beat and choke someone with his bare hands. So you better get those out of the household, too.
Of course, we have crossed over into the ridiculous. For it’s not these things that are killing women and children. It’s the people using them. And when one is not available they will look for another. So probably the best way to protect a woman and her children is to give that woman a gun. For if she has a gun it doesn’t matter how big her attacker is or how big the knife is he is threatening her with. Because all the strength she needs is that required to pull the trigger. And the big man with the big knife will fall. Even if he’s 200 pounds heavier. And a foot and a half taller. For there is nothing that empowers a woman more than a gun.

International law restricts the kind of bullets we can use in war. In general, they have to have a full metal jacket. So they don’t flatten out in flight and make big holes in bodies. Causing great suffering and trauma to anyone wounded. Which is why today a lot of soldiers can survive from gunshot wounds. Whereas the lead Minié balls of the American Civil War did horrific damage to tissue and bone. Shattering bone such that any arm or leg wound typically resulted in an amputation. And a belly wound meant death. For it just did so much damage to the internal organs that there was no repairing them. Much like another horrific belly wound. From a bayonet. As it made a long, wide wound. Often running in one side of a man and out the other. And doing irreparable damage.
Even today a knife wound can cause more damage than a bullet. Because it makes such a large hole through a body. Making long and deep cuts in internal organs. Also, a person has to be close to use a knife. He can’t stab someone from a distance. Like you can shoot someone with a gun from a distance. So anyone willing to stab someone is pretty cold-blooded. As you see, hear and feel a person’s death. And anyone that can do that is a very dangerous person. Especially with our lax knife-control laws (see Two dead, two wounded in separate GTA stabbings by Chris Doucette posted 2/13/2014 on the Toronto Sun).
TORONTO – Two men were killed and two others were wounded in three separate stabbings within hours of each other in the GTA [Greater Toronto Area].
The bloodshed began just after 9 p.m. Wednesday in Rexdale, Toronto Police said, and it kept emergency responders busy for several hours.
Every time there is a shooting in the United States the left calls for stricter gun-control legislation. As if that would remove all violent crime in the country. Because if a person can’t get a gun that person can’t shoot anyone with a gun. And they would never think about picking up a knife to harm someone. Which would leave the bad guys with nothing to do but to link arms and sing Kumbaya. Like they do in Canada. Well, everyone in Canada but those picking up knives to stab people. Funny how in Canada they don’t blame knives for these crimes. Or demand more restrictive knife-control legislation in Canada every time someone gets stabbed. Like some Americans blame guns for gun crimes in the United States. And try to restrict gun ownership every chance they get.

Canada has stricter gun laws than the United States. The American left would love to have some of their laws. For there is simply too much gun crime in the United States. From mentally unsound people killing people because of voices in their heads. To murder/suicides that would simply not be possible if there was not a gun in the house (see Two dead after stabbing at Keele and Eglinton apartment building by Canadian Press posted 9/13/2013 on the National Post).
Toronto police are investigating a possible murder-suicide at an apartment building in the city’s northwest.
Officers went to the building (near Keele Street and Eglinton Avenue West) at about 7:30 a.m. Friday after neighbours called 911 to report a woman was found with stab wounds in the hallway…
Officers located the body of the man outside the rear of the building.
The United Kingdom also has strict gun laws. And a knife-crime problem. For it would appear taking guns away from people does not prevent people from killing other people. Or themselves.
While a small percentage of any population may own a gun pretty much 100% of the population owns a knife. Except, perhaps, the person living alone who never cooks. And these instruments of death are often on full display in people’s kitchens. In a big block of wood on the kitchen counter. With the handle conveniently sticking out for anyone to walk by and grab. A child. An intruder. Or a homicidal spouse.
But we don’t hear the same concern for knife-crime as we do for gun-crime. Possibly because killing with a knife requires someone to get up close and personal to someone. Unlike a gun. Which can be fired safely from a distance. Which gives a woman a better chance of defending herself from someone trying to harm her. Because if she used a knife she would have to get close enough to her assailant that her assailant could probably take her knife away. And perhaps use it on her.
Unless a woman has been trained in hand-to-hand fighting she will likely lose in a knife fight. While her odds of winning a gun fight are just as good as her assailant. That’s what a gun does. It lets someone who is greatly out-muscled to defend herself. And in this day and age where more and more women are living alone and raising their children alone perhaps they would like to even the odds with any would-be assailant. And own a handgun with a large capacity clip. So she doesn’t have to fight hand-to-hand to save her life. Against someone twice her size.

The American left believes guns make people commit crimes. For these people wouldn’t kill anyone if there wasn’t a gun urging them to do so. Just look at Great Britain. Gun free. And crime free (see Man accused of murdering Kieran Crump-Raiswell ‘sniggered’ after stabbing him posted 7/4/2013 on the Manchester Evening News).
A teenage gap-year student was knifed to death in the street in broad daylight by a “laughing” stranger in Manchester, a jury has heard.
Kieran Crump-Raiswell, 18, was heading to look for a job when Imran Hussain, 27, walked up to him and “without warning” stabbed him four times in the chest, Manchester Crown Court was told…
The killing was the second of two street assaults committed on total strangers within 12 days in January.
Mature student Hussain, from Bracknell, Berkshire, drove from his student flat in Coventry on January 4 and punched a man in the face in Nottingham and ran off…
Hussain went on to claim he had been hearing “threatening and abusive voices” and that he travelled to the two cities to confront them.
Apparently there are other ways to kill people besides guns. As Britain is not crime free. In fact, Britain has a big problem with knife crime. Because they took away the people’s guns. So killers turned to knives. Proving the point it’s not the weapon that kills people. It’s the person holding the weapon that kills people. And taking away guns didn’t change that. And it won’t change that in the United States. As killers will just choose a different weapon to kill with. Like they have in Britain.

Gun violence is out of control in the US. And knife violence is out of control in the UK (see Two teenagers arrested over stabbing murder of 17-year-old boy in Bristol by Rod Minchin posted 6/15/2013 on The Independent).
Two teenagers have been arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of a 17-year-old boy.
The victim was stabbed near the junction of Cossington Road and Newquay Road in the Knowle West area of Bristol shortly before midnight yesterday.
The youth was taken to Frenchay Hospital but died shortly afterwards, Avon and Somerset Police said.
Sad. But not all that uncommon. For the Sun reported in 2010 that six people a week are stabbed to death in the UK. Or 312 each year. With stabbings leading all homicide deaths. It’s getting so bad that some are calling for automatic jail time for knife possession.
So how does this compare to a big American city? Say Chicago? In 2012 there were 443 homicides by firearms. Their leading homicide weapon. So the city of Chicago has more homicides than all of Britain. Even though both have very strict gun laws. But they also share something else in common. They both have gang problems.
Gangs kill. Whether with a gun. Or a knife. If you get a handle on the gangs you reduce the number of homicides. Whether there are guns—or knives—on the street.

The political left blames an epidemic of gun violence on law-abiding people owning guns. Creating a gun culture in the United States. Where any kid can go out and buy an assault rifle without a background check. They say this is the reason why people are walking into grade schools, universities, movie theaters and high schools, shooting unarmed people. It’s the guns. Not a failure of our mental health system. Where the political left has made it more difficult to commit someone who is a danger to themselves or to the public. And they don’t blame violent videogames. Or societal decay. Where people have little empathy for others. Which is why they can spend hours killing people in videogames. Or walk into a room full of innocent and unarmed people and start shooting them.
According to the left none of this would happen if only we got rid of our guns. Like Britain did. Where even the cops don’t carry guns. Making for a peaceful and loving society. Where the people would rather link their arms together and sing Kum Ba Yah than harm another living soul (see Pictured: The horrific arsenal of kitchen knives used by 20-strong gang to hack teenage boy to death in front of commuters at Victoria Station by Leon Watson and Amanda Williams posted 4/26/2013 on the Daily Mail).
The 15-year-old had his life cut short at Victoria station in central London when he was chased and killed by the gang of youths.
Detective Chief Inspector John McFarlane yesterday blamed the ‘blitz attack’ on Facebook and Blackberry’s messenger service which allowed his killers to organise themselves.
He said the teenagers had lost touch with reality because of violent computer games.
He told the Times: ‘You’ve got people playing computer games where they’re shooting and stabbing people. Where is the real world for them? There is a blurring between the real world and this false computer world…’
Sofyen [Belamouaddenw] was stabbed nine times in the body and suffered wounds to his heart, a lung and major blood vessels…
The attack was the horrific end of a minor confrontation the day before in the fast-food area of Victoria mainline station between pupils from the two schools, in which a youth received a bloodied nose…
Sofyen died after being chased by about 20 pupils across the Terminus Way concourse and into the Underground station.
A youth led the charge with a Samurai sword. Others were armed with a flick knife and a Swiss army knife, machetes and screwdrivers.
Apparently guns aren’t the only thing that cause people to kill other people. If these people were in Chicago they would have used handguns. And one wonders if they had no handguns in Chicago would they use knives? Like they do in Britain? Probably. For not having guns didn’t stop these people from killing this 15-year old boy.
Obviously with an attack this brutal there is a societal decay in Britain just as there is in the United States. People are somehow losing their empathy for other people. And have no problem in harming them. Or even killing them. And if it isn’t guns causing this what is? Is it coming from playing videogames? Perhaps. Either from that or from watching movies. Television. Or from listening to rap music that glorifies violence. They’re learning it somewhere. For no one is born that way.
If horrific acts of violence can occur even without guns then gun control is not the answer. Guns are only a tool a sick or depraved person chooses for his or her heinous act. If a gun isn’t available they’ll just pick up a knife. Or some other weapon. We need to determine what is causing this societal decay. So we can address the root cause of this rise in violence. Is it a breakdown of the family? The lack of a father figure in these kids’ lives? Abortion? Which teaches kids there are no consequences in life. And there is little value to human life. Or is it Liberalism itself? Which attacks conservatism. Our faith. And our traditions. Leaving our kids to grow up in a world void of a moral authority instructing them to be good. So they end up being bad. For doing whatever you want is more fun than sticking to the straight and narrow.
The left blames conservatives for a gun culture that creates gun violence. While it is far more likely that it is the left’s relentless assault on our faith and traditions causing the societal decay that allows someone to more easily harm another living soul. So perhaps instead of gun control we should be legislating against liberals. Preventing their harmful influence on the general public. That results in acts of violence. For these people aren’t born this way. They’re learning this behavior from liberals.

Gun control advocates say Britain doesn’t allow anyone to own a gun. And look how safe it is there (see Hereford stabbings: Two men hurt in attacks posted 4/2/2013 on BBC News Hereford & Worcester).
Two men have been treated in hospital following two “serious attacks” in Hereford.
West Mercia Police said the two victims were believed to have been stabbed in the Hunderton and Westfaling Street areas of the city…
Supt Ivan Powell said: “We would like to reassure local people that we believe that we have now accounted for all suspects connected with the incidents.
“We are in the very early stages of our investigation, but what I can say at this stage is that these appear to have been two separate, unprovoked assaults on members of the public.
“It is not thought that the victims are either known to each other or know their attackers.
Two separate, unprovoked and random knife attacks? What, people are still assaulted even though there are no guns in Britain? Is there a knife culture in Britain? Do they need new knife control legislation? To put an end to this knife violence? Do they need to remove all knives from the people? Including from the responsible knife owners?
Obviously it’s not the knives that are stabbing people. People are stabbing people. And I’m guessing that there are a lot of knife owners who never have stabbed anyone. Just as there are a lot of gun owners in the United States that have never massacred unarmed men, women and children in theaters and schools. Yet in the United States all we hear is about our gun culture. And how we need to restrict gun ownership.
Of course the question that begs to be asked is this. If we successfully prevent even the bad guys from owning a gun would they ever consider picking up another weapon? Like a knife? Or if we banned guns would that act simply make bad guys good? Well, we can look to Britain and see the answer to that question.

The advantage of a gun in self-defense is that you can engage the person attacking you at a distance. Allowing you to fire multiple shots at an intruder before they get close enough to cause you personal harm. For example, in a home invasion someone can retreat deep into the house while shouting out warnings that he or she has a gun and will fire if the intruder does not leave the house. If the intruder disregards these warnings and pursues to cause unknown harm that person can begin firing that weapon. Sending out a hail of lead in the hopes he or she can stop the intruder before he can advance far enough to apply lethal force. Like this (see Mom shoots intruder 5 times by Effie Orfanides posted 1/5/2013 on the examiner).
An Atlanta, GA mom shot an intruder 5 times after he discovered the place where she and her children had been hiding. The woman, who remains unidentified, put her life on the line to protect her twins and her story has made national news. On Jan. 6, FOX 8 reported that a man broke into the woman’s house and was shot by the woman when he approached the crawlspace where she and her kids were hiding…
… The woman fired six shots, five of which struck Slater in the face and neck. The man fled the home and ran to a nearby home,” FOX 8 reported. His injuries sound serious but, according to the report, he did not die.
The intruder took five bullets to the face and neck before turning and fleeing. Imagine if that mother only had a knife. She would have had to wait until the intruder could physically touch her before she could apply lethal force with that knife. And chances are that the intruder would have been able to wrestle that knife away and use it to inflict lethal force onto the mother. If she had no weapon the intruder could have walked right up to her and apply lethal force with his bare hands. And do likewise to her children.
Without a gun that mother would have been no match for that intruder. It was the gun that made it possible for the mother to defend herself and her children from a superior attacking force. A gun this intruder no doubt wished she didn’t have. For if there were gun control laws prohibiting her from owning a firearm he would not have fled that home until he was good and ready to leave. And he wouldn’t have five bullet wounds in the face and neck.
