American Education is so Poor only 7% in Survey can Name the First Four Presidents in Order

Posted by PITHOCRATES - April 13th, 2014

Week in Review

All you hear from Democrats is that we need to spend more on education.  They call it investing in our future.  Which is a lie.  For ‘investing in our future’ is code for shoring up teachers’ pensions.  And keeping higher education doing what those in control of higher education want it to do.  Produce Democrat voters.  Which actually starts in our public schools.  Where they teach our kids to come home and tell their parents that they are ashamed of them.  For all the global warming they’ve caused.  And bringing them into the world in the evil, rotten United States.

These are the things our kids seem to know about.  Global warming.  Slavery.  Stealing land from the Native Americans.  American imperialism.  But ask them to name the first four presidents of the United States?  Four of the greatest Americans ever to live?  Those in control of our public education don’t think knowing anything about them is important.  Apparently (see Rolling Stone, Groupon Show The Viral Benefits of Historical Inaccuracy by Nathan Raab posted 4/11/2014 on Forbes).

In 2007, a US Mint poll showed that only 7 percent of those surveyed could name the first four Presidents in order. A later poll by Marist was not more encouraging.

George Washington (#1) kept the Continental Army together for 8 years under circumstances few could imagine today.  Near the end of the Revolutionary War his character alone put down a mutiny in the officer corps.  He turned down the offer to make him king.  An unprecedented act at the time.  King George of Britain had said if he turned down absolute power “he will be the greatest man in the world.”  And Washington did.  Twice.  His presence was the only thing that got the states to ratify the Constitution.  And his two terms in office was the only thing that gave the United States of America a chance of succeeding.  This is why there is only one man we call the Father of his Country.  And only one man we call the Indispensible Man.  George Washington.

John Adams (#2) was a driving force for American independence.  So much so that King George could not forgive him.  Had they reconciled with the mother country the king would have pardoned many patriots.  But not Adams.  He would hang.  Adams nominated George Washington to command the Continental Army.  He chose Thomas Jefferson to write the Declaration of Independence.  He worked with Benjamin Franklin to negotiate the peace treaty that ended the Revolutionary War.  And negotiated America’s first loan from Amsterdam bankers.  The first nation to recognize and do business with the new nation (other than France).  And he averted war with France following the French Revolution.  Giving the fledgling nation a chance to survive.

Thomas Jefferson (#3) was the author of Declaration of Independence.  The author of the Statute of Virginia for Religious Freedom.  And the Father of the University of Virginia.  The three things Jefferson was most proud of and appear on his tombstone.  As president his administration bought the Louisiana Territory from the French.  More than doubling the size of the United States.  And sent out Lewis and Clark to explore these vast new territories.  And he slashed government spending wherever he could.  A true believer in limited government.

James Madison (#4) is the Father of the Constitution.  He wrote the Federalist Papers with Alexander Hamilton and John Jay to encourage ratification of the Constitution.  The Federalist Papers are still referenced today in Constitutional law.  He also helped the effort to ratify the Constitution in Virginia where he battled the great patriot Patrick Henry.  Who feared a large central government.  Madison served in the first Congress.  Where he championed the Bill of Rights.  And, later, supervised the Louisiana Purchase as President Jefferson’s Secretary of State.

It is indeed a sad commentary on our educational system that only 7% of those questioned could identify these great Americans.  And it’s not a lack of money causing this.  It’s a lacking in the curriculum.  Choosing global warming, slavery, stealing land from the Native Americans, American imperialism, etc.  Instead of teaching our kids why the United States is the greatest country in the world.  Because of men like these.  Who put the individual before the state.  Who made freedom and liberty things we take for granted.  Instead of things people can only dream of.  Which is the case in much of the world today.  And has been the norm throughout history.

Fundamental Truth

The Communists built the Berlin Wall to keep her People from Fleeing their Communist Utopia

The West is the best.  Based on history.  The Cold War was East versus West.  The Soviet Union and communist Eastern Europe faced off with NATO forces on the other side of the Iron Curtain.  And all during the Cold War people tried to escape from behind the Iron Curtain into the West.  Where there was no secret police.  And a life of plenty.  Instead of the life of poverty and perpetual want of the most basic of necessities behind the Iron Curtain.  Which is why these people wanted to escape to the West.

Of course, that posed a problem for countries behind the Iron Curtain.  If too many of their best and brightest escaped to the West the resulting brain drain would hurt their economies.  Reduce the quality of their health care systems.  Retard their scientific research.  Diminish innovation.  Leaving these countries frozen in time.  While the West went on to create the modern world.  If you visited East Germany in 1950 and again in 1960 and again in 1970 you would not have noticed great change.  At least not anything near the kind of change you saw in West Germany.

This was a problem in Berlin.  For although Berlin was wholly within East Germany the city itself was divided between East and West.  And life was so much better across the street in West Berlin than it was in East Berlin.  There were blue jeans.  Transistor radios.  Televisions.  People just had to walk across the street and claim asylum.  Board an airplane and fly away from the soul-sucking life of East Germany.  And they, too, could have all of those wonderful things.  As well as a full tummy.  For the West could feed their people far better than they could behind the Iron Curtain.  Which is why the communists built the Berlin Wall.  Not to keep people out of their communist utopia.  But to keep their people from fleeing it.

If Teddy Roosevelt didn’t give Cuba back to the Cubans there would have been no ‘Boat People’

The Soviet Union and their satellite countries behind the Iron Curtain are no more.  For the East lost the Cold War.  Thanks to Ronald Reagan.  And Margaret Thatcher.  Who decided to no longer accommodate the East’s belligerence.  Instead of detente they chose to win the Cold War.  For they saw what communism was.  An economic system on life support.  The Soviet Union could not even feed her people without U.S. grain.  Despite having Europe’s breadbasket on their side of the Iron Curtain.  The Ukraine.  So they pushed.  Hard.  Spent more money on defense that the Soviet economy simply couldn’t match.  Ultimately breaking the back of the Soviet economy.

That’s right.  The West won the Cold War by living well.  The economies of the West, in particular of the United States, were so strong that it could build the Strategic Defense Initiative (i.e., Star Wars) and still provide a life of plenty for their people.  Which is why whenever someone living behind the Iron Curtain had a chance to defect to the West they did.  It’s the dream of oppressed people everywhere to escape to the West.  Especially to the United States.  For when it comes to freedom and a high quality of life this is the ultimate destination.  The United States.

When Fidel Castro turned Cuba communist people made ramshackle rafts to escape Cuba.  Hoping to get to the United States.  Where life was so much better.  These ‘boat people’ no doubt wished the United States had kept Cuba when Spain ceded Puerto Rico, the Philippines and Guam to the U.S.  For a large sum of money after losing the Spanish-American War.  Spain left Cuba to the Americans, too, at the same time.  But Teddy Roosevelt gave Cuba back to the Cubans.  Which ultimately brought Fidel Castro to power.  Creating those ‘boat people’ trying to escape his rule.  Whereas had the United States kept Cuba it could be more like Puerto Rico or Guam today.  Western.  Where people wouldn’t board ramshackle rafts to get to the West.  Because they would have already been living in the West.

The Ideas of the Enlightenment took Root in America and Flourished better than in all other Countries

Prior to the Spanish-American War there was the Mexican-American War.  Where the Americans fought the Mexicans who had just recently won their independence from Spain.  What started out as a war over Texas ended with a treaty (and a cash payment to Mexico as well as assumption of some of her debt) giving the United States not only Texas but California and what is approximately today the southeast United States.  Moving the southern border of the U.S. south.  But apparently not far enough south.  At least, based on the illegal immigration from Mexico into the United States.

Life across the border in the United States is better than it is in Mexico.  Based on those who leave Mexico and cross into the United States illegally.  Who wouldn’t be doing this if life was better in Mexico than in the United States.  Suggesting that these immigrants would have been happier had the United States pushed their southern border all the way to Mexico’s southern border at the conclusion of the Mexican-American War.  So that Mexico would have been part of the U.S.  Allowing them to enjoy living in the United States.  Without being in the country illegally.

So while people speak out against American imperialism what this immigration tells us is that there was not enough American imperialism.  For if the United States had made most of the world a part of the United States then these people would not have to immigrate here.  For they would already be here.  For whatever reason the ideas of the Enlightenment took root here in America and flourished.  Better than in all other countries.  Making her the leader of the Western World.  And the ultimate destination of oppressed and impoverished people everywhere.

The Iraqis Support Capitalism while Hugo Chavez and Nancy Pelosi Support the Occupy Wall Street Protesters

Posted by PITHOCRATES - October 8th, 2011

Iraq wants American Technology because neither Cuba nor Venezuela gave the World the iPhone

Some say we invade other countries militarily so we can conquer them with corporate imperialism.  Such as the Iraq War.  It was about getting Iraqi oil.  And letting Halliburton lose to rape and pillage at will.  Well, oil prices shot to their highest during the U.S. ‘occupation’.  And Iraq isn’t covered with McDonalds, KFCs and Wal-Marts yet.  In fact, their ain’t much American corporate imperialism going on in the least.  Much to the chagrin of many Iraqis (see If U.S. Leaves Vacuum in Iraq, Iran’s Deep Influence May Not Fill It by Tim Arango posted 10/8/2011 on The New York Times).

Mr. Sharba continued: “We wish that American companies would come here. I wish the American relationship was that, instead of troops, it would be companies.” Mr. Sharba is a cleric, and he spent 14 years in Iran in exile during Mr. Hussein’s government…

But the troublemaking does not extend to the more important arena of commerce, officials say. “Because of the political sensitivities of Iran, many people say Iran is controlling the economy of Iraq,” said Sami al-Askari, a member of Parliament and a close confidant to Prime Minister Nuri Kamal al-Maliki. “No, the Turks are…”

Iran has also been trying to make inroads culturally, but it is bumping up against the same uneasiness that Iraqis have toward Iran’s business efforts. This year Iran negotiated a deal to refurbish several movie theaters in Baghdad that have been dark for years. Yet the renovations have yet to get under way, and officials say they wish it were the Americans — and their technology — involved in the project. “If a person asks me, who do I want to come help me? I wish that the Americans, by occupying Iraq, would support the culture and theater,” said Fuad Thanon, the head of Iraq’s national theater.

So it’s not the Americans reaping the spoils of war.  It’s the Turks.  And Turkey is doing this because America has chosen not to, apparently.  And the Iranians just plain suck at business.  Which one would expect in a theocracy.

The Occupy Wall Street protestors may hate corporate America and their remarkable technology.  But the Iraqis don’t.  They want it.  Because it’s the best.  I mean, they’re not clamoring for that good Cuban technology.  Or that good Venezuelan technology.  You know why?  Well, suffice it to say that neither Cuba nor Venezuela gave the world the iPhone.

There are more Blacks in the Tea Party than in Nancy Pelosi’s Neighborhood

They say you can judge a lot about a person by the company he or she keeps.  So let’s apply that to the Occupy Wall Street protestors.  Who is the latest to throw her support behind this anti-capitalism mob?  None other than Nancy Pelosi.  One of the most liberal members in the House of Representatives (see Nancy Pelosi Backs Occupy Wall Street Message, Tells Eric Cantor To Shove It by Zeke Miller posted 10/8/2011 on Business Insider).

In an interview with ABC News’ Christiane Amanpour, House Minority Leader Nancy said she supports the message of the Occupy Wall Street protesters that “change has to happen.”

So it’s clear.  Nancy Pelosi is against capitalism.  This comes as no shock.  For she has been against capitalism for years.  She prefers the doling out of privilege.  Where liberal wealth can be confined to her and her liberal friends.  In one of the richest and most exclusive congressional districts in America.  And one of the whitest.  It’s rather ironic, isn’t it?  She calls the Tea Party racist.  Yet there are more blacks in the Tea Party than in her own neighborhood.

“I didn’t hear him say anything when the Tea Party was out demonstrating, actually spitting on members of Congress right here in the Capitol. And he and his colleagues were putting signs in the windows encouraging them. But let’s not get down to that.”

There have been a lot of Tea Party rallies.  A lot of film covering these rallies.  And yet they never captured this spitting incident.  Or any racial hate speech.  You know why?  Because there was no spitting.  And the percentage of racists in the Tea Party is probably less than the national average.  Why, I bet Pelosi’s neighborhood has a higher percentage of racists than the Tea Party has.  And it’s probably higher than the national average.  Because it’s sooo white.  At least that’s what Nancy Pelosi would be saying if it were a Republican district.

If both Pelosi and Chavez support these Wall Street Protestors they can’t be Good for America

Nancy Pelosi is no friend of laissez faire capitalism.  So it’s no surprise that she supports the anti-capitalist protest on Wall Street.  And it’s no surprise that this guy supports it, too (see Hugo Chavez condemns ‘horrible repression’ of Wall Street protests by Enrique Andres Pretel, Reuters, posted 10/8/2011 on The Globe and Mail).

Not surprisingly, Mr. Chavez expressed solidarity with American activists who have been staging rallies and marches against what they view as corporate greed by Wall Street…

Mr. Chavez, who runs for re-election in a year’s time and traditionally ramps up his anti-capitalist rhetoric to try and rally supporters before a vote, also let rip at Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney, who referred to the “malign socialism” of Cuba and Venezuela in a speech on Friday.

That’s why the Iraqis aren’t asking for Venezuelan technology.  They want the best.  And the best comes where capitalism is freest.  Not constrained and maligned.  As in Venezuela.

So Nancy Pelosi and Hugo Chavez see eye to eye on the anti-capitalism protests on Wall Street.  They are simpatico.  They hate capitalism.  They both support the Occupy Wall Street people.  And Chavez hates America.  I’m not saying anything.  But people do judge you by the company you keep.

Since coming to power in 1999, Mr. Chavez has sought to project himself as a leader of a global “anti-imperialist” movement.

He and allies in the ruling Socialist Party have been gloating over economic and social problems in the United States and Europe as evidence of capitalism’s impending downfall.

“Poverty’s growing, the misery is getting worse,” he said, referring to the causes of the U.S. protests. “But that empire is still there, still a threat … (President Barack) Obama is on his way down, for lots of reasons. He was a big fraud.”

Hugo Chavez is no friend of the United States.  Even the Soviets didn’t take such glee in American economic unrest.  Sure, they wanted to win the Cold War.  But not if it imperiled their U.S. food imports.  Which they were dependent on to keep famine at bay.  And this in the country with some of the most fertile soil in the world.  What we call the breadbasket of Europe.  The Ukraine.  But communism just didn’t work.  So they had to import that capitalistic grain.  Despite that great soil.  And a great people.

You know, it just doesn’t look good when you are on the same side of an issue with someone who wants to destroy America.  And if both Pelosi and Chavez support these Wall Street protestors, these protestors can’t be good for America.

These Anti-American People either know Capitalism is the Best Economic System or are just Too Stupid to Know Better

So we didn’t invade Iraq to spread corporate imperialism.  Such as Hugo Chavez would believe.  Even though the Iraqis wouldn’t mind a little bit of it.  Just enough to give them some of the best technology in the world.  To help them back on their feet.  And help them get away from that Iranian crap.

Nancy Pelosi supports the Occupy Wall Street protesters.  As does Hugo Chavez.  Who hates everything American.  He is anti-American.  And anti-capitalist.  But he likes the Occupy Wall Street protesters.  So they can’t be either.  If Chavez likes them.  American.  Or capitalist.  Either that or Chavez is a closet capitalist.  And/or an American lover.

Truth be told these anti-American people are slinging their anti-capitalism BS just for personal gain.  They either know capitalism is the best economic system in the world.  Or they’re just too stupid to know better.
