The Left is using the Washington Navy Yard Shooting to Revive the Gun Control Debate

Gun Crimes often involve an Anti-Social Gamer who lacks Empathy for their Victims

There was another terrible thing that happened.  Depending on where you get your news from you might have gotten one of two general headlines.  You either saw/heard something along the lines of “Another failure in our mental health system leaves dangerous man among the public—kills 12 at the Washington Navy Yard.”  Or you saw/heard something like “AR-15 assault rifle responsible for yet another senseless massacre—people demand comprehensive gun control legislation.”

You probably can guess that the left-leaning media ran the AR-15 headline.  Who blames guns for all gun-violence.  Never the people pulling the triggers.  Whereas the media without a political agenda will have noted the failure in our mental health system as a greater concern for the safety of Americans.  As all of the gun massacres the left points to as proof that we need comprehensive gun control legislation have a common denominator.  The shooters all suffered from mental health issues.

Adam Lanza suffered from some personality disorder (perhaps Asperger disorder).  He was anti-social and played violent video games alone in the basement.  His disorder may have left him unable to feel empathy for other people.  That and the world of gaming where he killed over and over may have allowed him to feel nothing as he gunned down 20 children and 6 adults at Sandy Hook Elementary School.  Someone should have institutionalized Lambert.  For he was the danger.  Not the guns.  He chose the gun because that’s what he used in his video games.  But if there was no gun available he may have done something else.  For he was a smart kid.  An honors student.  And he was 20 years old.  He could have used a car to run people down like in one of those video games.

In the Worst of Gun Crimes the Left focuses on the Guns and not the Mentally Unsound Shooters

Before Sandy Hook a mentally disturbed James Holms killed 12 and wounded some 70 more in the 2012 Aurora theater shooting.  Before that a mentally disturbed Jared Loughner killed 6 and wounded 12 in a Tucson supermarket parking lot (2011).  Before that a mentally disturbed Seung-Hui Cho killed 32 and wounded 17 at Virginia Tech (2007).  All of these shooters had some serious mental health issues.  Some had been treated.  Some should have been treated.  And they probably should all have been institutionalized before their shootings.

But they weren’t.  In fact, some parents today are at their wits’ end when they have a family member that may be a danger to the general public.  But there’s nothing they can do.  For today you can’t just institutionalize people like we once did.  Because of civil liberties.  Which is a good thing.  To those who may have been wrongly institutionalized.  But it leaves those that should be out on the street.  Where they must first do something to be committed.  Like Sandy Hook, Aurora, Tucson, Virginia Tech, etc.  Then and only then can we remove these people from our streets.

Yet in the worst of these gun crimes the left focuses on the guns.  Not the shooters.  It’s not the people pulling the triggers.  But the triggers.  And they claim that if we remove the triggers we’ll remove this crime. Despite these mentally unsound people still being on the streets.  Who are in most cases very smart people.  And highly educated.  Who could probably figure out a way to get a gun if we had repealed the Second Amendment.  Or think of some other creative way to kill their innocent victims.

The Left blamed the AR-15 for the Washington Navy Yard Shooting instead of our Failed Mental Health System

So why does the left do this?  Well, because they want to take away our guns.  Why?  One can only guess.  They are generally anti-capitalists and would like to turn the United States into a more socialist country.  Like they’ve done with our health care.  Does the left want to do more than just make America a social democracy?  Other countries that had a political party/leader that went on to oppress their people often started by taking away people’s guns.  Because if they didn’t the people may just fight back.  And the last thing any dictator wants is a civil war like there is currently in Syria.

Is this why the left wants to take away our guns?  Who knows.  But it makes one wonder.  Especially when we see they can barely contain their glee whenever another mentally unsound person goes on a shooting spree.  So they can revive the gun control debate.  Which they have to revive as the polls clearly show the American people don’t put repealing the Second Amendment high on their wish list.  No, what they want is a better economy.  A job.  A safer world to live in where they don’t have to worry about their kids getting hurt or killed by an improvised explosive device while attending a marathon.  But the left focuses on the guns.

As they were still looking for potential shooters at the Washington Navy Yard the left was already reporting that it was yet another gun-crime made with that hated of all assault rifles.  The dreaded AR-15.  Everyone on the left was reporting this with glee.  Hoping to revive the talk about comprehensive gun control.  There was only one problem.  This mentally disturbed person did not use an AR-15.  He used a type of weapon Vice President Joe Biden recommended women get instead of a handgun for their personal protection.  A shotgun.  Even though they got the facts wrong it didn’t change the narrative.  The left blamed the AR-15 anyway and called for an assault rifle ban.  Without a word about our failed mental health system.  That allows mentally unsound people to wander among us where they can do great harm.  Because locking up mentally unsound people pays no political dividends.  While allowing them to remain on the street does.  Especially if they get their hands on an AR-15.

Charlie Rangel makes up Statistics in his Argument for an Assault Rifle Ban

Posted by PITHOCRATES - March 23rd, 2013

Week in Review

The Left sure hates guns.  And gun owners.  Pretty much saying anything to advance their gun control agenda.  And when the facts don’t support their case they just make up their own facts (see Rangel: ‘Millions of kids’ being shot down by assault rifles by Jessica Chasmar posted 3/21/2013 on The Washington Times).

New York Rep. Charlie Rangel appeared on MSNBC this morning to opine about the assault weapons ban getting dropped from the Senate gun-control bill…

“We’re talking about millions of kids dying — being shot down by assault weapons,” he continued. “Were talking about handguns easier in the inner cities, to get these guns in the inner cities, than to get computers. This is not just a political issue, it’s a moral issue…”

The FBI’s 2011 data says only 323 people were killed by rifles, compared to 728 people who were killed by hands, fists, feet etc. Handguns are much more likely to be used in a homicide with 6,220 killed nationwide in 2011.

I told you a million times not to exaggerate.

When they are distorting the facts like this you can’t help but see the politics in the gun control debate.  For 323 is not 1 million with a decimal point error.  These numbers are far, far apart.  It’s as if the Congressman has no idea what the actual number is.  For knowing the actual number apparently is not important to him.  Just banning assault rifles that kill less than half of the people killed by people with no weapons.  Why?  Probably because it will be easier to ban handguns once they ban assault rifles.  Then it’s just a matter of time before they get around to banning hands, fists and feet.

According to the CDC there were approximately 15,529 AIDS deaths in 2010.  And 16,694 adults and adolescent men contracted AIDS in 2011 from male-to-male sexual contact.  Does Rep. Charlie Rangel want to ban male-to-male sexual contact?  For male-to-male sexual contact kills 48 times the number of people assault rifles kill.  If he wants to ban the one that kills less you would assume he would favor banning the one that kills more.  But he’s probably not for banning the more dangerous than assault rifle male-to-male sexual contact.  For political reasons.  Because the gay community generally supports Democrats.  While gun owners generally support Republicans.

So it’s not about saving lives.  It’s about attacking Republicans.  Just yet something else they can use to demonize them.  For Republicans don’t want to ban assault rifles because they hate kids.  Just as everything Republicans do is because they hate someone.  And if they say this enough the Democrats can keep winning elections.  For their failing economic policies sure aren’t helping them.

Even if it Saves only One Child

Politics 101

Bringing Children into the Gun Control Debate Politicizes it and Really Tugs at the Heartstrings

President Obama signed his executive orders.  He told the people to call their Congress person.  And to ask them if they support some measure of gun control.  And if not ask why not.  The president also said a lot of people will say the federal government is trying to take away your guns.  To scare people.  That it’s a federal power grab.  Just so people connected to the gun lobby can make more money by putting assault weapons into the hands of disturbed individuals.  And they just don’t care how many children die because of it.

So the president politicized the gun control debate by criticizing the opposition who will try to politicize it.  The president even signed the executive orders in front of children.  Because bringing children into the political debate really tugs at the heartstrings.  For if we focus on the children we can suspend all reason.  And pass the most sweeping of legislation even if it won’t do anything to reduce violent crime.  Because seeing those children we think we have to do these things.  Even if it saves only one child.

And these children behind the president wrote letters to the president.  Begging him to take executive action to go around the Second Amendment.  And an obstructionist Republican controlled Congress.  The same children who write letters to Santa Clause asking for toy guns, violent videogames and ponies.  So it is interesting how they can set aside the serious issues of their day (playing with neat things) to address the gun control debate.  Guess we need to treat these kids as adults as they are concerned about serious issues.  These same people who won’t eat their vegetables.  And will eat nothing but desserts if their parents let them.

Instead of Gun Control we should make our Motor Vehicles Bigger and Legislate Water away from our Children

Kids don’t understand issues.  They only know what someone taught them.  Which is the whole point of public education.  Teaching kids because they don’t know anything.  So it is unlikely these kids sat down and wrote letters to the president without some help.  Either from their parents.  From their teachers.  Or even the president’s people.  Someone coached them with these letters.  Unless I was a very strange and odd child.  For whenever I was scared about something I went to my mommy or my daddy.  I never sat down to write a letter to the president about the monsters that may or may not have been under my bed.

Still, the kids tug at the old heartstrings.  So we must do something.  Even if it saves only one child.  Perhaps any gun control legislation should include other things that can save children’s lives.  Even if it only saves one life.  If it’s good enough for guns it should be good enough for anything.  For there are a lot of things that can harm kids.  The number one cause of death for kids ages 5-14 in 2010 was motor vehicle accidents.  Motor vehicles killed 806 kids in 2010.  Probably because we’ve shrunk cars down so much to save gas that if they get involved in an accident with a large vehicle there isn’t much left of the small vehicle.  So, for the children, we should outlaw small cars.  And mandate that all children ride in only full-size trucks and SUVs.  Even if it saves only one child.

The number two cause of death for children ages 5-14 in 2010 was drowning.  Water killed 251 kids in 2010.  So, for the children, we should outlaw backyard swimming pools.  Pools in schools.  And family trips to the lake, beach and ocean.  We should prohibit the televising of Olympic swimming and diving competition as it may encourage children to enter the water.  And we should outlaw hot tubs and bath tubs in homes.  Mandating that kids take only showers.  To eliminate water violence.  For guns killed only 37 kids in 2010.  While water killed 251.  And motor vehicles killed 806.  If we’re talking about gun control we should be talking about making motor vehicles bigger and safer, too.  And legislating water away from our children.  Even if it saves only one child.  Of course, doing so will probably save more children than new gun control laws.  Because they kill so many more kids than guns do.

When People live in a World where there are no Absolutes People will do things they Probably Shouldn’t

Sometimes when someone falls on hard times because they can’t find work they snap.  They do something violent.  Including the killing of innocent lives.  So perhaps we should rescind the president’s failed economic policies.  And remove stifling regulations on businesses.  Including the big one.  Obamacare.  Which has caused a hiring freeze as businesses don’t know the full costs of Obamacare.  We should eliminate these so businesses start hiring again.  For the children.  This will let people find jobs.  So they can take care of themselves.  And their families.  So we should undo all of the president’s failed economic policies.  Even if it saves only one child.

Idle hands are the devil’s tools.  If people have nothing to do they tend to do things to get rid of their boredom.  Sometimes bad things.  People who work have little time to do bad things.  Because they’re too busy working.  But people who don’t work because they collect government benefits have a lot of free time.  And get bored.  Some may even suffer from self-esteem issues.  As they don’t feel they have any value.  That they don’t matter.  So they might do something to let the world know who they are.  To make people remember their name.  And few things do that more than getting your name splattered all over the news for some heinous act.  So perhaps we should eliminate welfare programs.  To force people to work.  So they have no free time.  Or idle hands.  Even if it saves only one child.

When people live in a world where there are no absolutes.  Where there is no right or wrong.  Just shades of grey.  And no consequences for our actions.  People will do things they probably shouldn’t.  High school kids are going to have sex no matter what we say.  So we should give them birth control.  And abortion.  Even partial birth abortion.  Where they terminate the fetus’ life while the baby is still partially inside the mother.  For it would be murder if the fetus was completely outside of the mother.  This consequence-free life and the termination of unborn fetuses may tell some people that other things we do may not have consequences.  And that it’s okay to terminate life.  So perhaps we should bring religion back into our schools.  Mandate that people go to church and pray.  To learn right and wrong.  To teach people that our actions have consequences.  And to make all forms of abortion illegal.  To teach people the value of human life.   Even if it saves only one child.
