Democrats will Condone any Bad Behavior if it advances their Power

Week in Review

The government has long warned us not to eat or drink things that are bad for us.  They banned Saccharin after mega doses in rats caused cancer.  They then determined that a rat’s physiology is different from humans.  And removed their ban.  They banned the use of Alar (used in apples and other fruits to provide a better harvest) when mega doses proved to be carcinogenic.  The consumption of healthy apples fell.  They told us not to eat eggs as they had cholesterol.  Even though no study showed egg cholesterol was bad for you.  So people quit eating eggs.  And many lost an excellent source of protein.  And it turned out saturated fats play a larger role in our cholesterol levels.  And that eating eggs really doesn’t affect our cholesterol levels.  So we’re eating eggs again.  Because they are good for you.

Mayor Bloomberg wanted to make large sugary beverages illegal in New York.  There have been bans on trans-fats.  They have tried to take toys out of McDonald’s Happy Meals to make them less attractive to children.  And let’s not forget the war on smoking.  They have put pictures of diseased lungs on the packaging to get us to quit.  They have made it illegal to smoke a cigarette pretty much everywhere to protect others from second-hand smoke (though no studies exist showing that there is even a risk due to second hand smoke just as there was no study showing egg cholesterol was bad for you).  They have even discussed bans on third-hand smoke (the ashtray smell you leave behind after smoking).

Government is regulating our lives to save us from ourselves.  Because we engage in behavior too risky for our own good.  Except for two behaviors.  Drugs.  As Colorado has decriminalized marijuana (without any regard to our diseased lungs, second-hand smoke or third-hand smoke).  And sex.  As they give out free birth-control to encourage our young people to have as much sex as they so desire.  And provide access to abortion when that fails.  Despite the slew of venereal diseases all that sex has given our young people.  Including AIDS (see A Resisted Pill to Prevent H.I.V. by DAVID TULLER posted 12/30/2013 on The New York Times).

Over a cup of tea at a downtown Starbucks, Michael Rubio recalled how four friends became H.I.V. positive through unprotected sex, all within a year…

The very existence of that option represents a startling turn in the too-long history of the AIDS epidemic. Many health experts hoped that the medication — Truvada, a combination of two antiviral drugs that has been used to treat H.I.V. since 2004 — would be exuberantly embraced by H.I.V.-negative gay men. Instead, Truvada has been slow to catch on as an H.I.V. preventive in the 18 months since the strategy’s approval by the Food and Drug Administration. In some quarters, the idea that healthy gay men should take a medication to prevent infection — an approach called pre-exposure prophylaxis, or PrEP — has met with hostility or indifference…

For 30 years, public health officials have aggressively promoted condom use during every sexual encounter as the only effective method, apart from abstinence, for preventing H.I.V. transmission. Still, 50,000 new infections are occurring annually in the United States; sexual transmission between men accounts for more than half of them, and a disproportionate number among African-Americans and other minorities.

Many experts hailed Truvada as an opportunity to reduce new infections among high-risk groups like young gay men, people in relationships with H.I.V.-positive partners, and prostitutes. The F.D.A. called for prescriptions to be accompanied by counseling, frequent H.I.V. testing, and continued promotion of safer sex, although research suggests that daily use of the pill alone confers close to full protection.

But a generational shift in attitudes toward H.I.V. among gay men may also be playing a role, some experts say. With advances in treatment, many younger men who did not experience the worst years of the epidemic are less fearful of the consequences of infection. Moreover, current medications can lower viral levels in H.I.V.-positive people to the point where the risk of transmission is negligible, further reducing the perceived need for PrEP among H.I.V.-negative partners…

Certainly, “condom fatigue” among gay men is real. The proportion who reported unprotected anal sex in the previous year rose to 57 percent in 2011 from 48 percent in 2005, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Obamacare will pay for AIDS and HIV treatment.  But will people with AIDS/HIV pay more for their Obamacare?  Probably not.  Smokers will pay more, though.  Despite it being easier to prevent AIDS/HIV than lung cancer from smoking.  For you can still have anal sex without being at risk for catching AIDS/HIV if you wear a condom.  But you can’t smoke without putting yourself at risk every time.  Because when you smoke you pull in that cancer-causing smoke into your lungs.  Yet as preventable as AIDS/HIV is 57% of gay men have unprotected sex.  Which you can’t define as anything but willful and dangerous behavior.

But the left has no harsh words for the gay community.  Unlike they do for smokers.  Why?  Because the gay community votes Democrat.  As do young people.  Who believe that 30% or more of the population is gay.  While a 2010 study by the Williams Institute put the number at 3.5%.  But the young believe that 3 out of every 10 people (instead of 3.5 out of 100) identify themselves as lesbian, gay, or bisexual.  And want to be progressive and enlightened and cool and so unlike their parents that they want to show their enlightened support for them.  Which is another reason why they vote Democrat.  In addition to the sex and drugs the Democrats encourage.

Until gay men wear condoms all of the time or abstain from willful and dangerous unprotected anal sex AIDS/HIV will spread.  (If these young gay men were in monogamous relationships they wouldn’t be spreading AIDS/HIV).  And it won’t be just in the gay community.  Thanks to bisexuals, intravenous drug users and prostitutes the disease will migrate to others who think they are being progressive and enlightened to have as much sex as the Democrats encourage them to have.  Guaranteeing a large voting block for the anti-parents (i.e., Democrats) come Election Day.  And they don’t care how many lives they destroy in the process.  But if you want to enjoy a cigarette or a big juicy burger look out.  They are coming after you and your reckless lifestyle.  Unless, of course, you’re smoking a marijuana cigarette.  And eating that big greasy burger afterward because you have the munchies.  Because there’s nothing wrong with that lifestyle.  Because you’re likely a Democrat voter.

The temperance movement took off in large part due to the STDs husbands brought home to their wives after drinking away their paychecks at the local saloon.  And then making bad decisions when drunk.  Like spending what money they didn’t spend on alcohol on prostitutes.  Bringing home syphilis to many an unsuspecting wife.  Who passed it on to their unborn children.  It was the progressives that try to put a stop to that with Prohibition.  Including women like Susan B. Anthony.  Now look at the progressives.  Who are a far cry from those who once wanted to protect women and children.  Who now champion some of the most dangerous behavior women and children can face.  Sex and drugs.  Just to win elections.  Something Susan B. Anthony would not likely approve of if she were alive today.

Politically Active Celebrities perform for People with Records of Human Rights Abuses

Posted by PITHOCRATES - June 30th, 2013

Week in Review

The biggest names in the entertainment community are mostly liberals.  Why?  Because they are more enlightened than most, of course.  Liberals revel in being smarter and more informed than those knuckle-dragging Neanderthal Republicans.  Who are just so stupid.  As anyone is who votes for them.  Yet these smart people are often surprised to learn that something they did wasn’t all that smart (see Lopez sings ‘Happy Birthday’ to Turkmenistan head by Nekesa Mumbi Moody posted 6/30/2013 on Yahoo! News).

Jennifer Lopez sang “Happy Birthday” to the leader of Turkmenistan during a show, but her representative said she wouldn’t have performed there at all if she had known there were human rights issues in the country…

Lopez’s publicist says the event was vetted by Lopez’s staff: “Had there been knowledge of human rights issues any kind, Jennifer would not have attended…”

In 2011, Oscar-winning actress Hilary Swank profusely apologized after attending a birthday party for Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov, who had been accused of torture and killings; she said she didn’t have a full understanding of the event.

Beyonce, Nelly Furtado, 50 Cent, Mariah Carey and Usher were paid handsomely to perform at parties linked to the late Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi. All later announced plans to donate their performance fees to charity and said they hadn’t known the leader was connected to terrorism.

Granted, most Americans probably could not find Turkmenistan on a map.  But they should know that it’s one of those former Soviet republics in central Asia.  The crossroads of ancient history.  And beyond.  Thousands of years of history.  And thousands of years of past wrongs to right.  Because of this some of these former Soviet republics don’t exactly have stellar human rights records.  Staunch advocates of human rights (as most of the entertainment elite are) should know that there is some bad stuff happening in the area.  And should at least look up the country they’re going to on Wikipedia.

Chechnya is a hotbed of Islamist activity.  And one of the more brutal places in the world.  Islamist separatist militants fighting for a free Chechnya occupied a Beslan school in a hostage crisis in 2004.  Ending in the death of 186 children.  Chechen Islamists also were responsible for the 2002 Moscow theater hostage crisis.  With the demand that the Russians leave Chechnya.  That ended with the Russians pumping in some gas into the theater to subdue the terrorists.  Which it did.  But the gas also killed about 128 of the hostages.  Incidentally, the Boston Marathon bombers had a Chechnya connection, too.  The fighting in the area can be brutal.  And the human rights can be lacking.

How anyone cannot know that Moammar Gadhafi was a sponsor of terrorism is beyond me.  One of the greatest acts of terrorism was the Libyan sponsored bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie Scotland.  Which was in retaliation for Ronald Reagan bombing Libya.  Which he did in response to Libya’s bombing of a German discotheque frequented by American service men.  Gadhafi was a thorn in the America’s side during the Eighties.  And he was still sponsoring terrorism until he renounced terrorism after George W. Bush invaded Iraq following 9/11.  He was right up there with Saddam Hussein and the State of Iran when it comes to America’s greatest enemies.  Yet these people had no idea he was connected to terrorism.

These are not the most informed people in the world.  Yet they are treated as if they are.  And when they make a political endorsement people will listen to them.  Even if they have no idea what’s going on in the world of foreign policy.  But they will tell people who to vote for to run the nation’s foreign policy.  And the sad thing is that these people probably don’t understand economics any better than they understand foreign policy.  Yet they are making political endorsements.  Which people are listening to.  Because they sound so enlightened and smart.  And nothing at all like those knuckle-dragging Neanderthal Republicans.

The Electoral College

Politics 101

The Founding Fathers put Responsible, Enlightened and Disinterested People between the People and their Government

The Founding Fathers were no fans of democracy.  Election by popular vote was little more than mob rule.  It would lead to the tyranny of the majority over the minority.  And as Benjamin Franklin warned, once the people learned they could vote themselves money from the treasury, they would.

These feelings extended to the states as well.  The small states did not want to be ruled by the large states.  This is why every state had two senators in the Senate.  To offset the influence of the big states in the House of Representatives.  Where the people voted for their representatives by direct popular vote.  And to offset the influence of the new federal government, the state legislatures would elect their senators.  Giving the states a large say in federal affairs.

Knowing history as they did, this was all very purposeful.  Indirect elections.  Putting other people between the people and the power of government.  And the treasury.  The people would vote for responsible, enlightened and disinterested people to represent them.  Then these responsible, enlightened and disinterested people would make policy.  And by doing this the Founding Fathers hoped that the new republic would survive.

The Founding Fathers set up the United States as a Federation of Independent States

Blacks make up about 12% of the population.  Gay and lesbians less than 1.5%.  In a true democracy it would not be difficult for the majority to win a popular vote to make these people illegal.  As crazy as that sounds a democracy could do that.  If that was the way the mob felt at the time of the vote.  This was the kind of thing the small states worried about.  As well as the Founding Fathers.  A tyranny of the majority.  Where anything goes.  As long as the majority says so.

Interestingly, a popular vote could have freed the slaves.  Which was a concern of the southern states.  The Three-Fifth Compromise was yet another provision the Founding Fathers included in the Constitution.  To get the southern states to join the new union.  This counted 3/5 of a slave as a person to determine representation in the House of Representatives.  Which would offset the numerical superiority of free people in the northern states.  And prevent them from ruling the southern states.  Which is pretty much what happened after the Civil War.  As the freed slaves tended to vote along with their northern liberators.

The Founding Fathers set up the United States as a federation of independent states.  For before there was a United States of America there were independent states loosely associated together.  Coming together only when they needed each other such as winning their independence from Great Britain.  Even during the Revolution the states were still fiercely independent.  And getting these fiercely independent states to join together in a more perfect union required a lot of checks and balances.  A separation of powers.  And indirect elections.  Which the Founding Fathers dutifully included in the new Constitution.  It wasn’t perfect.  But it was the best such a diverse group of people and beliefs could produce.

The Seventeenth Amendment Destroyed a very Large Check on Federal Power

Of course, this leaves the presidential election.  And the Electoral College.  Which grew out of the same concerns.  Of trying to prevent the large states from ruling the small states.  The Electoral College blended together the popular vote of the House of Representatives.  And the indirect vote of the Senate.

Each state had electors who actually voted for the president.  The number of electors in each state equaled that state’s representation in Congress.  The number of representatives in the House (population-based).  And the number of senators (state-based).  The electors typically cast all of their electoral votes based on the outcome of the popular vote of their state.  Which is why sometimes presidents win elections even though they lose the national popular vote.  An outcome designed by the Founding Fathers.  To prevent a tyranny of the majority from ruling over the minority.

Some things have changed since the Founding.  We extended the right to vote to black men.  And then later to women.  Both good things.  But not all changes were good.  Such as the Seventeenth Amendment.  Perhaps the biggest change from the intent of the Founding Fathers.  Ratified in 1913, it changed the election of Senators from a vote by the state’s legislature to a popular vote like that for the House.  Destroying a very large check on federal power.  Creating a much more powerful central government by transferring power form the states to the federal government.  What the Founding Fathers tried to prevent in the original Constitution.  With their checks and balances.  Their separation of powers.  And their indirect elections.  Including the Electoral College.  Which, if eliminated, would give even more power to the federal government.  And a greater ability for the majority to rule unchecked over the minority.

FUNDAMENTAL TRUTH #69: “Democrats bank on the youth vote because they’ve lost the wise vote.” -Old Pithy

Posted by PITHOCRATES - June 7th, 2011

Republicans are Greedy, Stuffy Old Farts

The perception is that the Democrats are for the working man.  Or woman.  And the Republicans are for the rich.  Which isn’t exactly true.  For there are a lot of wealthy who vote Democrat.  And a lot of working men and women who vote Republican.  But in politics perception is key.  Like it is in real estate.  I’m sure you’ve heard the one about the small agent who people perceived as the biggest agent in town.  Of the few properties listed, the agent had one on the road into town.  And one on the road out of town.  The agent owned two signs.  Each property got one.  And everyone saw these signs as they drove in and out of that town.  And thought, “I see these signs everywhere.  That agent must be the biggest agent in town.”  The agent isn’t.  But people perceive this because of the signs.

And there is a perception in politics.  It starts out when we are young.  In school.  And see our favorite teachers go on strike.  We love them so much we want to help them.  So we stand in picket lines with them.  Hold signs.  Blissfully ignorant of the underlying issues.  But teachers are good.  They’re not rich corporate types.  Some even have to buy their own school supplies because the school is so impoverished.  They deserve better.  Even though they get the summer off.  And don’t pay a dime for their health care or retirement.  If your parents had the same deal when you were a kid, they would have given you a lot more presents on your birthday and at Christmas.  Gone to Disney World a few more times.  And bought you that bike you always wanted.  But kids don’t understand this.  And the perception is that people are greedy because they don’t want to pay more in taxes to help their favorite teachers.

As these kids grow people hammer this message into them again and again.  On television.  In the movies.  In books.  In college.  Republicans are greedy.  Democrats care for the little people.  They don’t explain how.  It is just an article of faith.  Which the kids accept.  Without question.  Especially when they start getting politically aware.  And they feel special when people start initiating them into the political process.  They don’t understand anything yet.  They’re still self-centered kids.  But they like the attention.  It makes them feel good.  And when they learn that the Democrats are for fun, why, that’s even better.  For it is the Republicans that are against fun.  They disapprove of sexual promiscuity.  Drugs.  Birth control.  Abortion.  The greedy, stuffy old farts that they are.

Democrats are Enlightened and Care about People

It’s all part of the generation gap.  The kids against their parents.  Who don’t know anything.  In the sitcom Happy Days, ‘enlightened’ high school kids campaign for the Democrat candidate Adlai Stevenson while the parents support Dwight Eisenhower.  In the sitcom All in the Family, the ‘enlightened’ Meathead supports George McGovern while the bigoted Archie Bunker supports Richard Nixon.  In the sitcom Family Ties, the parents are caring liberals while Alex Keaton is a greedy, unfeeling young Republican who worships money, Ronald Reagan and Richard Nixon.

Since the Seventies the message has been clear for kids watching television.  Bigoted, greedy, unfeeling, dishonest, out-of-touch people are Republicans.  Enlightened people who care about other people are Democrats.  That’s a powerful perception.  And it works.  The majority of young people typically vote Democrat.  Mostly for the social issues.  Which they believe are enlightened on the Democrat side.  Which is all they really care about at their age.  When their hormones are raging out of control.  They’re not thinking about economic or foreign policy.  They’re thinking about the weekend.

I mean, let’s face it.  Kids aren’t that smart.  They’re young.  Have little experience.  Which is why they do a lot of stupid things.  Smoke.  Work on deep sun tans.  Drive recklessly.  Drink before they’re of legal age.  Do drugs.  Drive under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.  Have unprotected sex.  Catch a sexually transmitted disease.  Give a sexually transmitted disease.  Accidentally get pregnant.  And the list goes on.  Their concerns are not long term.  Their interests are not long term.  It’s all about having fun now.  So despite this poor judgment we need to get out the vote and get these kids into the voting booth.   Why?  Simply because they will vote Democrat.

The Problem with Young Voters is that they Grow Up

So who votes Democrat these days?  Besides ignorant kids?  Mostly people who benefit from a large and growing government.  The poor who want more welfare benefits.  The elderly who want more Social Security and Medicare benefits.  Unions who get favorable legislation restricting lower-cost competition.  Public sector unions who we pay directly with our taxes.  And the smattering of single-issue people.  Environmentalists.  The anti-nuke crowd.  Gays and lesbians (rejected by some religious groups).  Feminists.  The pro-choice people.  Etc.

It’s a lot of people.  But America is still a center-right country.  Which leans conservative.  Which makes the youth vote so critical.  That’s why they get them while they’re young.  It’s the whole point of public education.  To make good Democrat voters.  That’s why they focus on things like environmentalism.  The theory of evolution.  Multiculturalism.  Sex education.  Birth control.  Things that will drive wedges between kids and their parents.  Should their parents be Republicans.  So after graduation they understand some fundamental truths of life.  Republicans bad.  Democrats good.  Until they start working and raising a family of their own.  At which time they will start complaining about the school curriculum at their own kids’ school.

Again, this is why the youth vote is so important.  For the youth have one fatal flaw.  They grow up.  A large part of that center-right America was once far left.  Kids who voted Democrat.  For the social issues.  Who then grew.  And stopped being ignorant.  Stopped thinking about short term fun.  And started thinking about long term consequences.  About their kids.  And their kids’ future.  A lot of these people changed their views on the social issues.  And started paying attention to economic and foreign policy issues.  Even went back to church.  Because they wanted their kids to go to church.  And they didn’t do these things because they became a bunch of greedy, stuffy old farts.  It’s called being responsible.  Which is what happens when kids grow up.  And have kids of their own.

Indoctrinating and Dumbing Down

Once they do grow up the Democrats have to replace them with the next batch of kids coming of age.  And they take this seriously.  First it was 12 years of public school.  Then they added kindergarten.  And now there’s been talk about state-paid pre-school.  So the state can get to these kids sooner to start driving that wedge between them and their parents.  And they’re virulently opposed to school vouchers.  The ability to use your school tax dollars on the school of your choice.  For a couple of reason.  It thins the classes at the public schools.  Worst, private and charter schools often make smarter kids.  Who may think for themselves instead of just becoming good Democrat voters.

This attacks the primary mission of public education.  Indoctrinating kids into the Democratic Party.  And dumbing them down.  Teaching them things like global warming and multiculturalism.  While the Chinese and Indians are teaching their kids science and engineering.  So is it any surprise that the Chinese may soon surpass the United States as the world’s largest economy?

This is another reason why America is a center-right country.  Jobs in the private sector are important.  And pay for all those state benefits people vote Democrat for.  The costs of these programs are huge.  Too huge.  And we can’t sustain this kind of government spending anymore.  Grownups with jobs understand this.  Kids don’t.  So they may lose more of the grownup vote if they cut these benefits.  Which makes the youth vote even more important.  Because they are losing more and more of the wise vote.  The responsible ones with jobs.
