Women to Serve in Combat despite having Lower Physical Standards and Private Rectal Exams in Training

Posted by PITHOCRATES - February 9th, 2014

Week in Review

Women are just as capable as men in combat.  According to people who say women should be allowed into combat roles so it doesn’t limit their chances for promotion.  Which would be all right if they went through the same training as men did.  But they’re not.  The Marines have lowered their physical requirements for women entering combat roles (see The Marines have Lower Physical Requirements for Women they’re Integrating into Combat posted 1/5/2014 on PITHOCREATES).  And the service academies have lowered physical standard for female cadets (see Lower Standards for Women in Service Academies may play Role in Sexual Harassment and Assault posted 1/12/2014 on PITHOCRATES).  This unfairness to men even extends to the military physical exam (see Men, Manliness, and Being Naked Around Other Men by Richard Senelick posted 2/3/2014 on The Atlantic).

I was already in medical school when I took my military entrance physical for the doctor draft. It was high school all over again. Grown men of different shapes and sizes, lined up to be poked and prodded. No one ever forgets being told to “bend over and grab your ankles.” With the increasing number of women in the military, I decided to research the current military physical exam. The article contains a section, “For Women Only,” where it proudly states that, “your visit with the physician will be in a private room.” Not so for the men, apparently. Six paragraphs down under a section titled “Do”, it says “Wear normal underwear. You will be sorry if you don’t!” Once again, a man’s modesty is a joke.

Why can’t women line up in their underwear, bend over and grab their ankles like the men do?  Are they too dainty to have a rectal exam in front of other women.  Like the men have to?  If so perhaps they are too dainty for combat.

Part of the reason for this public humiliation in training is because of the lack of modesty in combat.  If you have to poop during an artillery barrage and you’re hunkered down in your foxhole guess where you’re going to poop?  In your foxhole.  Even if there is another soldier or Marine in it with you.  You may try to defecate in your helmet and dump it outside your foxhole.  If you want to risk getting your arm blown off.  And you’re probably not.  So when you feel the call of nature you are going to drop trou, squat and poop while close up and personal with someone else.  With that poop remaining in you foxhole with you and your buddy.  And the thinking is if you lose all modesty in basic training you’ll have no problem pooping while hunkering down in a foxhole with someone else.  Or doing other unpleasant and/or embarrassing things.

Will a female soldier or Marine who has her basic training rectal exam in a private room be able to do this?  Or does she think she’s just going to hold it in until she gets to a proper bathroom off the line?  Either women and men meet the same standards.  Or they should not serve together in combat.  For the enemy only makes one type of war.  Not one for men.  And another less strenuous and more modest one for women.

The Politics of Liberal Economic Policies

Economics 101

What doesn’t Kill You Makes you Stronger

They say what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.  And you can see that in military basic training.  There have been some good movies showing what military basic training is like.  Perhaps one of the best is Full Metal Jacket.  Where Gunnery Sergeant Hartman played by R. Lee Ermey wasn’t acting as much as reliving his days as a Marine Corps drill instructor.  Watching it you may come to hate Sergeant Hartman for he was pretty sadistic.  But they didn’t design basic training to be a pleasant experience.  They designed it to prepare recruits for the worst thing in the world.  War.

In the miniseries Band of Brothers we follow Easy Company, 2nd Battalion, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division, from basic training through D-Day and to the end of the war.  Airborne training followed basic training.  And was harder.  Fewer people make it through airborne training than they do basic training.  Ranger training is even harder.  And fewer people make it through Ranger training.  But airborne units and Rangers get the more difficult missions in combat.  Because they can do more.  For their training is more difficult.  But it didn’t kill them.  So it made them stronger.

Perhaps the most difficult military training is the Navy’s SEAL program.  Where if they get a good class of recruits they may have 1 in 10 complete training.  For it is that hard.  In fact, some have died in training because they refused to give up.  That’s why you will find few tougher than a Navy SEAL.  They are tough.  And they never quit.  Which is why we give them the most difficult missions to complete.  Missions that others would find impossible.  Proving that the more brutal and difficult training is the stronger and more able we get.

During the 20th Century the American Left has tried to replace Rugged Individualism with the Nanny State

Those who founded this nation were tough people who worked hard and never gave up.  They provided their own housing, food, clothing, etc.  If they needed something they figured out how to provide it for themselves.  They worked long hours.  Survived brutal winters and hostile environments.  But they never gave up.  In fact, they raised families while doing all of this.  With no help from government.  As there were no government benefits.  Yet they survived.  Even prospered.  For what didn’t kill them only made them stronger.  These rugged individuals could do anything.  And did.  Which is why the United States is the leader of the free world.  And the world’s number one economy.  Because of that rugged individualism.

This is the way America was before the progressives came and softened us.  And made rugged individualism somehow a bad thing.  Beginning with Woodrow Wilson.  Then FDR.  LBJ.  And then President Obama.  A long line of American presidents who eschewed individualism.  And thought in collective terms.  When the Americans rejected socialism they gave us progressivism.  When we rejected communism they gave us liberalism.  The 20th century has been a tireless attempt for those on the left to replace rugged individualism with the nanny state.  With their brilliant selves in power.  Managing the economy.  And making life fair.  To undo the unfairness of laissez-faire capitalism.  To make the United States better.  And more according to their vision.  Just like the socialists did.  And the communists did.  Yet no socialist or communist state became the leader of the free world.  Or the world’s number one economy.

Those who lived in those socialist and communist utopias learned one thing.  It was better to live someplace else.  And their ultimate destination?  The United States.  Yet those on the left refused to believe that life was worse in those states where they put people first instead of profits.  Like that unfeeling and cruel laissez-faire capitalism did.  Which is why Wilson, FDR, LBJ and Obama worked tirelessly to move the United States in the direction of socialism and communism.  Because they cared for the people.  Or the power they got by making so many people dependent on government.

Someone receiving a Comfortable Level of Benefits will not be pushed to Leave their Comfort Zone

So is it about the power or that thing about helping people?  What is it exactly that progressives/liberals really want?  Well, we can look at the historical record to determine that.  By looking at a point in time when America really changed.  With the assassination of JFK.  JFK’s chances of reelection weren’t great.  Which is why he went to Texas.  As he needed LBJ to deliver Texas to the Democrats.  Instead of electoral victory, though, he fell to an assassin’s bullet.  The great outpouring of grief and love for their fallen president exceeded the love he got before the assassination.  The heightened emotions allowed LBJ to pass the many programs of the Great Society into law.  In the memory of JFK.  The greatest expansion of the federal government since FDR’s New Deal.  Making the welfare state the largest yet.  In an attempt to put people first.  Not profits.  In fact, LBJ declared a war on poverty.  By providing government assistance to lift everyone out of poverty.  And he championed civil rights.  LBJ was going to make the United States that utopia socialists and communists always dreamt about.  For everyone.  Blacks.  And whites.  Especially blacks.  Who were suffering great discrimination then.  But things would be different for them.  Starting in the Sixties everything was going to get better.  And how are blacks doing today?  Well, if you use employment as a measure, not good (see Table A-2. Employment status of the civilian population by race, sex, and age by the Bureau of Labor Statistics)

Unemplyment Rates by Race Age Sex Rev 2

The federal government has done a lot for blacks.  More than any other minority group.  Affirmative Action was to correct all past wrongs.  By making it easier to get into college.  And to get a job.  Yet we don’t see that when looking at the unemployment numbers.  In fact, the group the government does the least for—white men—is doing the best.  They don’t need any help because they won life’s lottery.  By being born white.  According to liberals.  So there’s no Affirmative Action for them.  Yet they have half the unemployment rate black men have.  While white women have half the unemployment rate black women have.  And white 16-19 year olds have half the unemployment rate black 16-19 year olds have.  Brilliant progressives/liberals have been trying to make life better for blacks for 50 some years now and have failed.  Despite this blacks have never been more loyal to them.  Which answers the question what the Democrats care more for.  The people?  Or the power the people give them.  By getting them dependent on government.  Who they tell over and over again that they would have nothing if it weren’t for them.  The Democrats.  For blacks just can’t make it on their own without help.  Even though after receiving all of that help blacks are suffering the greatest levels of unemployment.  Clearly something isn’t right here.  And it goes back to that thing that made America great.  Rugged individualism.

You know what the difference is between a white SEAL and a black SEAL?  Nothing.  Blacks have equality of opportunity in SEAL training.  And that’s all they need.  They don’t need special treatment.  And the Navy doesn’t tell them that they do.  All they need is the strength.  And the will.  Which will be there if you don’t keep telling people that they can’t succeed without the government’s help.  Because if you keep doing that they will come to believe that.  And they will keep voting Democrat.  Looking for help.  Whereas those who face adversity and overcome it grow stronger.  Because what doesn’t kill them makes them stronger.

Handing out government benefits will make people like you.  But it won’t get them a job.  For someone receiving a comfortable level of benefits will not be pushed to leave their comfort zone.  And while they languish in their comfort zone they will not gain work experience.  Allowing others to gain experience and move up in their careers.  Making them more employable.  While those with less experience and less education are less employable.  And that’s what Democrats do when they buy votes with government benefits.  Make people less employable.  And blacks have been especially useful to them.  As they can stoke the fires of racism to drive blacks even further to the Democrat Party.  By calling Republicans racists.  Because they want to take away their benefits.  Just because they hate black people.  Or so goes the Democrat line.  So they keep voting Democrat.  While losing their rugged individualism.  And suffering higher levels of unemployment than everyone else.

The Left Hates the Military, Repeals ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’

Posted by PITHOCRATES - December 31st, 2010

The Effete Left Retaliates for all those Wedgies

The liberal left hates the military.  Always have.  Always will.  It’s the manliness of the soldier these effeminate men hate.  Being weak on testosterone, the effete male tucks his tail between his legs and scurries away in the presence of the alpha male.  When they were in grade school getting wedgies.   When girls rejected them in high school.  Or when a woman’s husband caught them in an adulterous act.  They ran away.  They didn’t fight.  Which is why they hate the military.  Because they will fight to protect themselves.  Their fellow soldiers.  Their family.  God.  And country.

The Left has always had the military in their crosshairs.  To defund it as much as possible.  To boot ROTC off college campuses.  To protect the rights of a Muslim extremist in the U.S. Army that went on a murdering rampage on an Army post.  Anything to destroy the military.  They just don’t like it.  So when they fought to repeal ‘don’t ask, don’t tell’, they didn’t do it to help gays who want to serve in the military.  They did it to further damage the military.  At least, that is their hope.

They hate gay soldiers as much as they hate straight soldiers.  Because a gay soldier is still an alpha male.  A tough guy.  Willing to fight to protect himself, his fellow soldiers, his family, God and country.  Everything that the effete left hates.  They see a gay soldier as just another tough guy that probably kicked their ass back in high school.  No, they pushed for this because a lot in the military were against it.  Not because they’re all homophobes.  But because it will radically change the military.

War is Hell and not for the Effete

To take boys and make them into soldiers in a short time requires a little shock and awe.  Training is hard.  And horrible.  The more horrible it is the less horrible actual combat will be.  That’s how you make boys into men.  Desensitize them.  How you keep them from panicking while chaos reigns all around them.  It’s how you keep soldiers alive in combat.

Marine basic training was pretty harsh during the Vietnam War.  They’ve since lightened up a little since that time portrayed by R. Lee Ermey in Full Metal Jacket.  Ermey was in fact a drill instructor in the U.S. Marine Corps.  And he served in Vietnam.  Much of his lines in that movie were ad lib.  Drawn from his personal experience.  He was a real bastard in the movie.  But a great drill instructor.  I met Ermey at an air show one summer.  While I waited in line to get his autograph, there were Marines ahead of me past and present.  What did they want?  They wanted Ermey to tell them to drop and give him 20.  And he did.  It was a high honor indeed for these Marines.  He’s a god to them.  Because he made tough Marines.  Ermey’s the real deal.  And, though retired, he still serves his beloved Corps.  Once a Marine, always a Marine.

So what did these men go through in basic training?  Something like this (WARNING: The following video contains explicit language and adult content):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TLDaZvTfU9k

Now, imagine Sergeant Hartman dressing down an openly gay man in that scene.  And how fast the ACLU would file suit.

You can say that much of what he said and done was inappropriate.  But when you’re training killers, you emphasize the chest thumping, testosterone teeming, alpha-male manly stuff.  So you call recruits ladies.  And homosexuals.  Until they prove themselves lean, mean and tough as mother [deleted expletive] who want to cut out the enemy’s living guts and use them to grease the treads of their tanks.  That last was borrowed from the movie Patton.  And that classic George C. Scott scene can be seen here:

War is hell.  And a manly thing.  It is not for the faint of heart.  As William Tecumseh Sherman said, the more horrible it is, the quicker it will be over.  And the less lives lost.  An effete liberal male, on the other hand, disdains such brutality.  They’d prefer to sit down with our enemies and resolve our differences through diplomacy.  Like the Allies did with Hitler.  Who lied.  We gave him the Sudetenland.  And he took the rest of Czechoslovakia.  Then Poland, launching World War II.  After we got his word that he wouldn’t.

The Ivy League Hates the Military and ROTC

There are some tough gay mother [deleted expletive] serving in the military.  But they’ve been hiding their sexuality.  Which for the above reasons is a good thing.  Now they’ve repealed ‘don’t ask, don’t tell’.  So now when a drill instructor slips and calls a recruit a lady or a homosexual, it’ll be a problem.   The Left will slip someone into basic training for just that reason.  So they can sue the military.  Because they hate the military.  It’s all that pent up frustration from all those wedgies.

The Ivy League hates the military.  They’ve kept ROTC off their campuses.  Because, they said, the military discriminates against gays.  Now that Obama has repealed ‘don’t ask, don’t tell’, will they welcome ROTC onto their campuses?  No.  Because they hate the military (see ‘Don’t ask, don’t tell’ has been repealed. ROTC still shouldn’t be on campus. by Colman McCarthy posted 12/30/2010 on The Washington Post).

To oppose ROTC, as I have since my college days in the 1960s, when my school enticed too many of my classmates into joining, is not to be anti-soldier. I admire those who join armies, whether America’s or the Taliban’s: for their discipline, for their loyalty to their buddies and to their principles, for their sacrifices to be away from home. In recent years, I’ve had several Iraq and Afghanistan combat veterans in my college classes. If only the peace movement were as populated by people of such resolve and daring.

Bull [deleted expletive].  He may admire a Taliban soldier, for they are killing American soldiers, but he hates American soldiers.  Who was it spitting on U.S. troops returning from Vietnam and calling them ‘baby killers’?  He and his fellow college students.  That’s who.

ROTC and its warrior ethic taint the intellectual purity of a school, if by purity we mean trying to rise above the foul idea that nations can kill and destroy their way to peace. If a school such as Harvard does sell out to the military, let it at least be honest and add a sign at its Cambridge front portal: Harvard, a Pentagon Annex.

Taint the intellectual purity of a school?  Give me a break.  The pompous and condescending Ivy League has tainted the intellectual and moral purity of a nation.  These people haven’t done a damn thing to make America great.  It’s the soldiers that have done that.  As Charles Province says so well:

It Is The Soldier

It is the Soldier, not the minister
Who has given us freedom of religion.

It is the Soldier, not the reporter
Who has given us freedom of the press.

It is the Soldier, not the poet
Who has given us freedom of speech.

It is the Soldier, not the campus organizer
Who has given us freedom to protest.

It is the Soldier, not the lawyer
Who has given us the right to a fair trial.

It is the Soldier, not the politician
Who has given us the right to vote.

It is the Soldier who salutes the flag,
Who serves beneath the flag,
And whose coffin is draped by the flag,
Who allows the protester to burn the flag.

Charles Michael Province, U.S. Army

The Left Hopes Gays will Hurt the Military

God bless the soldiers.  The Marines.  The sailors.  The airmen.  And all who serve.

If you hate the military you hate the people in the military.  No matter how you try to spin it.  Do you think a liberal would let his daughter marry a soldier?  Would Colman McCarthy welcome a soldier into his family?  Or would he sneer with contempt?  I’m guessing the contempt thing.  So they don’t like the military.  Or the people serving.  And if you do, everything you do is against the military.

And so it is with their fight to repeal ‘don’t ask, don’t tell’.  They’re probably laughing and making gay jokes just waiting for all the trouble to start.
