Hollywood to hurt Middle Class and export more American Jobs

Week in Review

James Cameron is going to make 3 Avatar sequels.  Three big block buster movies.  Generating a lot of economic activity.  Something the United States can generate a lot of tax revenue from.  To fund all those programs that liberals love so much.  Especially Hollywood liberals.  For those in the movie industry tend to be far left.  Cameron himself was applying for U.S. citizenship.  But when Republican George W. Bush won reelection in 2004 he chose to remain a Canadian.  You just can’t get much further left than that.  But how can you fault him?  Just look at all the taxable income he will create for the IRS with those three Avatar sequels (see James Cameron says he will shoot 3 ‘Avatar’ sequels in New Zealand by the Associated Press posted 12/15/2013 on CP24).

Director James Cameron says he plans to make three sequels to his 2009 sci-fi blockbuster movie “Avatar” in New Zealand…

Cameron says he plans to complete principal shooting on the three movies at one time, perhaps over a period of about nine months.

New Zealand’s government has agreed to a 25 per cent financial rebate. Cameron didn’t disclose an exact budget although he says he expects economies of scale will help the three movies together cost less than $1 billion.

Guess there will be no taxable income generated from filming these movies.  Forcing the IRS to squeeze more from those who don’t export American jobs.

Filming in New Zealand?  Shooting three movies at one time for economies of scale?  A 25% financial rebate?  Amazing, isn’t it?  The left does everything within their power NOT to use costly union labor or work in locations with costly regulations in the United States.  Yet they champion union labor and costly regulatory policies.  They are all for them.  As long as they can escape their costs by filming in a foreign country.  To satiate their greed.  Putting more money into their pockets instead of paying a living wage to an American.

And it’s the Republicans who have a war on the middle class?  Go figure.

Rising Debt and Higher Net Worth portend a Housing Bubble in Canada

Posted by PITHOCRATES - December 15th, 2013

Week in Review

The Canadians like to think of themselves as kinder and gentler than their neighbors south of the border.  For they have a generous welfare state.  Including single-payer health care.  Unlike those Americans who put profits before people.  But it comes at a price.  High taxes.  And they do pay a lot.  But they get a lot.  Those high taxes, though, lower take-home pay.  Giving Canadians less disposable income than their neighbors south of the border.  Which means they have to borrow more to make up for that smaller disposable income (see Personal debt ratio hits record high of 163.7% posted 12/13/2013 on CBC News).

Statistics Canada reported Friday that the level of household credit market debt to disposable income increased to 163.7 per cent in the third quarter from 163.1 per cent in the second quarter.

That means Canadians owe nearly $1.64 for every $1 in disposable income they earn in a year.

Policymakers are fixated on the debt ratio in part because it was at above 160 per cent that households in the United States and Britain ran into trouble about five years ago, contributing to defaults and the financial crisis that triggered the 2008-09 recession…

Indeed, while they are borrowing more, Canadians are also worth more as their assets increase by a similar amount. The national net worth increased to $7.5 trillion in the third quarter, up 2.1 per cent from the previous quarter.

On a per capita basis, that works out to $212,700 for every Canadian. The previous quarter, that figure was $208,300.

Rising net worth and rising debt?  Gee, what could that mean?  Well, most people’s wealth is determined by the price of their home.  As the value of their homes rise so does their net worth.  That is, their net worth rises as the price of their home (if they were to sell) rises.  And as their home price rises so do other home prices.  Which increases mortgage amounts.  As people borrow more to buy these more expensive homes.  And the lower the interest rates the more they will borrow and the bigger the house they will buy.  And this creates a what?  That’s right.  A housing bubble (see Is There a Canadian Housing Bubble? by Carrie Rossenfeld posted 11/13/2013 on GlobeSt.com).

GlobeSt.com: What factors lead experts to think there may be a Canadian housing bubble?

Muoio: For us, the biggest sign there is a housing bubble is how far prices have appreciated without a corresponding rise in income. This means housing affordability is falling rapidly and will eventually reach a tipping point. Additionally, if lenders are underwriting against an expectation of rising prices, this could result in loosening standards and too much leverage in the system.

GlobeSt.com: How similar are these factors to what happened to the US housing market before the recession?

C.M.: Very similar. US home prices kept appreciating while incomes saw only modest growth in the final years before the bubble burst. This led to a situation where eventually housing just became entirely unaffordable and the market’s liquidity completely dried up. With people over-levered due to the loose lending standards (which were enabled by the expectation of rising prices), this led to a massive unwind and foreclosure mess we are still working through. Additionally, Canada, just like us at the time, is building an extreme amount of homes that could lead to oversupply issues.

A rising debt level and higher net worth probably is more bad news than good.  For it is likely a sign of a housing bubble.  Just like these very things were a sign of a housing bubble in the U.S. just before the subprime mortgage crisis.  Or is it a sign that Canadians are just taxed too much leaving them with less disposable income?  Forcing them to borrow more as they cannot save enough for a sizeable down payment to reduce the amount they have to finance?   Or is it both?

It appears the Canadians can’t learn from the Americans.  And when the Canadian bubble bursts the Americans won’t learn anything from the Canadians.  For governments today want to keep interest rates low to encourage home ownership.  Which they do.  Taking us from bubble to bubble.  And from recession to recession.

Global Warming is causing Record Cold Temperatures and making it Snow in the Middle East

Posted by PITHOCRATES - December 15th, 2013

Week in Review

Those on the left are always sick with worry about something.  Because they are a miserable people.  Who really don’t understand anything.  But they know that whatever is happening is bad.  In the Seventies it was global cooling.  A new ice age was coming.  And they were angry that government leaders weren’t listening to them and storing up food as the ice age was imminent.  Just years away.  And if we didn’t start storing food to get us through the coming bleak, glacier-covered period we were doomed.

Well, the ice age did not come as they had warned.  And they found warning about an ice age sucked.  Because what could the government do but store food?  Global warming, on the other hand, held a lot more promise.  For they could blame that on man.  And the carbon he was putting into the atmosphere with his modern world.

Global warming was a hit with the left.  Because it led to a slew of environmental regulations.  Increasing the cost of business.  And changing the way we lived.  This was so much better than global cooling.  So the left warned us that the temperatures were rising.  And that if we didn’t enact their new insufferable regulations the world would end as we knew it within the decade.  They said this during the 1990s.  The 2000s.  And they continue to say this to this day.  Despite weather like this (see Snow closes roads in Israel, is a source of wonder in Egypt by Laura King and Batsheva Sobelman posted 12/13/2013 on the Los Angeles Times).

Snow coated domes and minarets Friday as a record Middle East storm compounded the suffering of Syrian refugees, sent the Israeli army scrambling to dig out stranded motorists and gave Egyptians a rare glimpse of snow in their capital.

Nearly three feet of snow closed roads in and out of Jerusalem, which is set in high hills, and thousands in and around the city were left without power…

In Cairo, where local news reports said the last recorded snowfall was more than 100 years ago…

Storm-driven waves lashed Egypt’s Mediterranean coast, and fishermen in the ancient port city of Alexandria were warned by authorities against putting out to sea. In the Sinai Peninsula, snow fell on Mt. Sinai and St. Catherine’s monastery at its foot. Sleet washed the dusty fronds of desert palm trees.

The left said a few forest fires in the West were proof that the climate is warming.  They said a drought in the farmland was proof that the climate is warming.  They said that super-storm Sandy was proof that the climate was warming.  Yet when we have record cold temperatures throughout the world and snow in the Middle East what do they say?  These are just isolated weather events that don’t mean a thing.  And we wouldn’t have these extreme cold temperatures if the climate wasn’t warming.

They actually say this.  But they try not to use the term ‘global warming’ anymore as it makes them look like idiots.  They prefer climate change.  As it can cover warm, cold, wet, dry, wind, calm, whatever.  They don’t have to be right about any prediction.  As they can say any weather event is the result of catastrophic climate change.  As they’ve been warning us was imminent for decades.

Boehner chastises Conservatives in Congress to Stop Interfering with Passing the Liberal Agenda

Posted by PITHOCRATES - December 15th, 2013

Week in Review

The establishment Republicans are getting sick and tired of conservatives.  Their base.  And they’re starting to speak out against them in harsher tones they rarely if ever use on Democrats (see Why The GOP Civil War Just Exploded Out Into The Open — Again by Brett LoGiurato posted 12/12/2013 on Business Insider).

On Dec. 12, House Speaker John Boehner finally conveyed the bewildered sentiment that so many Republicans shared as far back as August.

Speaking at a press conference where he said outside conservative groups have “lost all credibility,” Boehner referenced comments that Heritage Action CEO Michael Needham made toward the end of October’s federal government shutdown — one that Boehner suggested Republicans were pushed into by the “defund Obamacare”-happy outside conservative groups.

“Everybody understands that we will not be able to repeal this law until 2017,” Needham had told Fox News — as in, repeal isn’t possible until a Republican is in the White House. To Boehner, that was a tacit admission that these groups knew their strategy was unworkable.

Well, that’s the problem the conservatives have with the establishment Republicans, isn’t it?  Winning the White House.  Which they haven’t been able to do with the last two establishment Republican candidates.  Both who proudly proclaimed that they could reach across the aisle and work with Democrats.  Which basically meant that they would help the Democrats pass their liberal agenda.  By NOT trying to advance a conservative agenda.  What 40% of the electorate wants.

Being that about 40% of the electorate is conservative these Democrat-lite candidates didn’t rally the Republican base.  The 21% of the electorate that is liberal were never going to vote for a Republican.  And the moderates in the middle who lean Democrat vote for the real Democrat candidate.  Not the Democrat-lite candidate.  Always.

This is why the conservatives in Congress are a bit exasperated with the establishment Republicans.  Because they lose the election that matters.  By NOT running a conservative candidate.  And they never push back on the liberal agenda as they are so afraid that the media will say bad things about them.  Or liberals won’t like them.  It’s either that or the establishment Republicans, like liberals, want big government.  Because they, too, like the money and the power.  And don’t want any of that limited government nonsense.  That thing our Founding Fathers gave us.

When was the last time that the Republicans won by a landslide?  That’s right.  When they ran a conservative candidate.  Ronald Reagan.  Another conservative the Republican establishment didn’t like.

Liberals’ War on Women is Causing Women and Teenage Girls to have Genital Cosmetic Surgery

Posted by PITHOCRATES - December 15th, 2013

Week in Review

A large part in Mitt Romney’s loss to President Obama in the 2012 presidential election was the Republicans’ so-called war on women.  All started by that question from George Stephanopoulos.  If Mitt Romney wanted to take women’s birth control away.  Completely out of the blue.  Something never included in any Republican platform.

But from that question the mantra on the left was if you elect conservatives they will take away a woman’s birth control and her access to abortion.  Which, according to the left, is the only thing women care about.  Using their vaginas.  And with this emphasis on vaginas women are going to great lengths to make their vaginas as pretty as possible (see British gynaecologists express shock over five-fold rise in female genital cosmetic surgery cases by Agence France-Presse posted 11/16/2013 on South China Morning Post).

British gynaecologists warned yesterday that increasing numbers of teenage girls and women are undergoing genital cosmetic surgery, driven in part by unrealistic images of how they should look based on pornography.

You can’t blame pornography on conservatives.  That’s something the left says is a free speech issue.  The objectification and exploitation of women.  Liberals say that there is nothing wrong with women being sexy.  And fight any attempts to censor television.  Or the movies.  What harm can come from consenting adults enjoying a women’s nudity?  Or enjoying her sexual objectification?  Well, as it turns out, it’s not just men using pornography as the standard for women.  Women are, too.  Even teenage girls.

Yet it’s conservatives who have a war on women.  Go figure.
