Foreign Governments warn their people about traveling to Democrat Cities

Posted by PITHOCRATES - November 17th, 2013

Week in Review

An anti-capitalist just became the new mayor of New York City.  And it’s got a lot of people nervous.  Not the people who elected him.  But people who do business in the city.  Who came to the city after Mayor Rudy Giuliani cleaned it up.  Making it safe for families to walk the streets again.  And making Times Square the tourist attraction it is today.  Unlike the Seventies.  When prostitution and drugs filled Times Square.  And crime.  Lots and lots of crime.  Some of these business people are worried that New York City might return to what it was like in the Seventies.

Sadly, it is a trend of some of our larger cities to become dangerous.  Even foreign governments are warning their people about some American cities.  And even now those warnings include a much cleaner and safer New York City (see 16 American cities foreign governments warn their citizens about by Reid Wilson posted 11/14/2013 on The Washington Post GovBeat).

Planning a trip abroad? It’s probably best to check out the State Department’s list of travel warnings for countries with unsafe political situations. At the moment, the State Department has issued travel warnings for 34 countries, from the Central African Republic and El Salvador to Iraq and North Korea.

Well, just as State warns Americans about dangerous places to travel, so too do foreign ministries in other countries — and some countries warn their citizens to avoid heading to certain cities in the U.S. France, in particular, warns travelers to be careful in a large number of specific cities.

So what are these cities?  Boston, New York, Washington, Baltimore, Richmond, Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Detroit, Chicago, Houston, St. Louis, Atlanta, New Orleans, Miami, Los Angeles and El Paso.  Notice anything in common with these cities?  That’s right, they’re all Democrat cities.  The kind of cities that don’t have a Rudy Giuliani running them.  A mayor who is tough on crime.  To make their cities family-friendly.  And tourist-friendly.  The kind of city most of us would prefer to live in.  Which we could have if we, apparently, vote Republican.

All Tobacco is Bad for you Except the Kind that can Help you Get the Youth Vote—Marijuana

Posted by PITHOCRATES - November 17th, 2013

Week in Review

Cigarettes will kill you.  And are addictive.  Which makes that killing you thing worse.  Governments have sued Big Tobacco for all the heart disease, lung cancer and emphysema their products caused.  Smoking is so bad for you that we’ve banned smoking in all public places.  We’ve also banned second-hand smoke.  And are discussing ways to band third-hand smoke (the stink of smoking left behind).  We ostracize smokers today.  And shame them.  Except in the movies.  Where people still love to smoke.  And they make it look so cool that kids who see them smoke want to smoke, too.

Apart from Hollywood, though, there is an outright war on smoking.  It’s just so bad that governments are doing everything they can to get people to quit smoking.  And prevent them from starting to smoke in the first place (see Fewer teens smoke but more use e-cigarettes, hookahs by Wendy Koch posted 11/14/2013 on USA Today).

Fewer U.S. teens are smoking cigarettes, but more are getting a nicotine fix from hookahs and electronic cigarettes, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports today…

The CDC attributed the increase to lower prices for these products as well as their increased marketing and availability, and the perception that they are safer alternatives to cigarettes. It also found a slight uptick in high school students who smoked pipes and cigars, including the little ones that look like cigarettes but cost a lot less and come in candy flavors.

“This report raises a red flag about newer tobacco products,” said CDC Director Tom Frieden in announcing the findings. “Cigars and hookah tobacco are smoked tobacco – addictive and deadly. We need effective action to protect our kids from addiction to nicotine…”

The CDC report, published in this week’s Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report, reported that 14% of high school students smoked cigarettes last year, down from 15.8% in 2011 and 28% in 2000. It notes that smoking remains the leading cause of preventable death and disease in the United States, and nearly 90% of adult smokers began smoking by age 18.

Leading cause of preventable death?  And 90% of adult smokers started smoking by age 18?  Wow, smoking must be bad.  But if it is why the big push to decriminalize marijuana by the same people who want to criminalize every other type of tobacco product?  Simple.  Kids love getting high.  And if the Democrats are the ones to decriminalize marijuana they can count on the youth vote in election after election.  Until they die from heart disease, lung cancer and emphysema, that is.

Hollywood may hate Law-Abiding Gun Owners but they love Gun Violence

Posted by PITHOCRATES - November 17th, 2013

Week in Review

Liberals win elections because they have friends in powerful places.  Our public schools.  Our universities.  The main street media.  Television.  And, of course, Hollywood.  As a percentage of the population we’re only talking about 21% of the people.  But these friends have powerful soapboxes.  Making their minority views sound like majority opinion.  Such as their hatred of gun ownership.  And their desire for gun control legislation.  Despite their love of guns.  And gun violence (see Blame Washington, Not Hollywood, For R-Rated Violence In PG-13 Films by Scott Mendelson posted 11/14/2013 on Forbes).

“If (studios) are prevented from freely advertising R-rated films, they will simply find ways to allow more and more “objectionable” material into PG-13 rated films.” – Me, in May, 2001

Well, it’s finally happened.  After over a decade of studios stuffing more and more R-rated content, specifically R-rated violence, into PG-13 movies, we’ve reached the point where PG-13 films actually have more gun violence than R-rated films. There has been a lot of hand-wringing about the study which will be published in the December issue of Pediatrics, but almost none of them are looking at the real issue. This isn’t some conspiracy by Hollywood to fill our kids’ heads with images of no-harm/no-foul gun play. It’s the logical end-result of a 2001 bill spearheaded by Joe Leiberman and nearly passed into law that would have given the Federal Trade Commission the power to regulate how R-rated films were marketed. And frankly I tried to warn anyone who would listen nearly thirteen years ago.

They may want to take away guns from law-abiding gun owners but they sure love to play with them in the movies.  A lot.  For there is nothing more fun than shooting up people.  Apparently.  And their gun fun on screen has inspired videogames where kids can mimic what they see in the movies.  And go on shooting sprees of their own.   Sometimes, though, they do it in real life.  Why?  Is it because law-abiding people can buy and own guns?  Or is it because they like what they see in the movies so much that they want to do the same in their videogames?  And when that bores them, a few of them want to do it for real?  To bring that movie or videogame to life?

Those who do typically suffer from some mental health issues.  But that doesn’t stop them from enjoying those gory movies.  And those gory videogames.  For many of our mass shooters were avid gamers.  Hollywood and videogames may not be totally to blame.  But they are probably more to blame than law-abiding gun owners.  So if they really want to end gun violence perhaps they should look at what they’re doing more and at responsible gun owners less.

The Left will give you Birth Control, Access to Abortion and will even Notify your Sex Partners if you gave them an STI

Posted by PITHOCRATES - November 17th, 2013

Week in Review

Mitt Romney lost the 2012 election in large part to this war on women the right is supposedly waging.  Because they don’t want to provide free birth control.  And abortion on demand.  You see, the Democrats understood what the Republicans do not.  Women have vaginas.  And they want to use them.  Apparently.  As nothing else mattered in the campaign.  Not the worst economic recovery since that following the Great Depression.  Not the scandals (Fast and Furious, Benghazi, AP snooping, James Rosen snooping, Attorney General Eric Holder possible perjury over James Rosen snooping, NSA snooping, IRS harassing conservatives, etc.).  Not the disastrous foreign policy (helping the Muslim Brotherhood take Egypt, helping al Qaeda move into Libya, Iran’s nuclear ambitions, etc.).

No.  Apparently women have no interest in these things.  Only their vaginas matter to them.  At least, that’s what the left would have you believe.  And they’re using them so much there is an explosion in sexual transmitted infections (see “I’m Calling to Let You Know That You May Have Been Exposed to Gonorrhea” by Amanda Marcotte posted 11/14/2013 on Slate).

In the annals of uncomfortable conversations that most people hope never to have, “calling your exes to tell them you have an STI” ranks at least in the top five. Luckily, for the taxpaying citizens of eastern Washington, help is on the way. As reported by NPR, the Spokane Regional Health District has instituted a program where, if you test positive for a sexually transmitted infection, their social workers will do the hard work of finding your former sex partners and calling them to let them know they’ve been exposed to this disease…

This program is fantastic and needs to be instituted everywhere immediately. This is a clear-cut example of the taxpayers really getting their money’s worth from government programs…

All jokes aside, infectious diseases don’t care if you’ve reached a point of emotional maturity where you can tackle life’s more difficult conversations with aplomb. Having a third party make the phone call you may not be able to make yourself is a simple, effective way of preventing people who may have infectious diseases from infecting more people. Half of new STI infections are among Americans ages 15-24, an age where having these kinds of loaded conversations is especially difficult. Good for Spokane, and let’s hope this program spreads across the country faster than chlamydia.

With the left’s objectification of women the hook-up entered the American lexicon.  Meeting people for casual sex.  With no consequences.  Thanks to free birth control.  And should that fail, abortion.  Kids as young as 15 are hooking up.  And leading the explosion in STIs.  No doubt young boys driving the explosion.  As they have but one thing on their mind.  Getting as many girls to say ‘yes’ as possible.  Because with free birth control and abortion there are no consequences.  So they try to convince every girl they find attractive to have sex.  Possibly infecting many of them before they show any symptoms themselves.  Which they probably ignore long before finally going to a doctor.  As those they infected may have unknowingly spread the infection through other hook-ups.

Is a government notification system of STIs really the answer?  Or is that only treating the symptom and not the cause?  Instead of spreading infection to our young perhaps we should follow George Michael‘s advice.  And explore monogamy.  And let our women be more than sexual objects.  As the left apparently prefers them.  Instead have only one sexual partner to live a sexually fulfilling life with.  For if they both enter the relationship infection free there will be no infection later.  And no need to have the government call your sexual partners.

The Ideal Age to have Children depends if you do What is Best for You or Your Child

Posted by PITHOCRATES - November 17th, 2013

Week in Review

If someone sees a pregnant woman smoking or drinking coffee they will give her a stern lecture.  Explaining what she is doing to her baby.  And telling her she must be more responsible now.  For it’s just not about her wants and desires now. She is bringing a new life into the world.  And she must do what’s best for her child.  Yet these same people will say being a single mom is perfectly fine.  Or waiting until she is 40 until she has her first child.  Or if she wants to have a late-term abortion that’s a decision that should only involve a woman and her doctor.  All of a sudden it’s no longer what’s best for the child but what’s best for the woman (see Survey Reveals the “Ideal Age” for Women to Have Children — and It’s Total Nonsense by Monica Bielanko, Babble.com, posted 11/13/2013 on Yahoo! Shine).

As Slate notes, according to a new Gallup poll, most Americans think that women should start having children by age 25…

Do you know what I was doing at 25?

Dancing on bars after 4 too many shots of Jagermeister. Dating as many men as possible to figure out that guys who kick in your car door probably aren’t the marrying kind. Working my way to the top of the journalism food chain, first at FOX in Salt Lake City and later ABC in New York City, both of which involved 10-hour workdays. I was traveling. New York City, Mexico, London, Italy … you get the idea. I was grabbing myself a big ol’ handful of life whilst trying very hard not to create it, because that wouldn’t have been ideal. For me…

These kinds of surveys are so annoying, yet they seem to immediately go viral and do such a disservice to women out their living their lives and making choices based on what’s right for them – decisions that likely already go against the grain of what society/our parents/religion/TV/movies tell us. Decisions like our careers, delaying motherhood, choosing to be a single mom … but that’s exactly what’s wrong with any survey related to the ideal kind of parenting: there are no absolutes. You should do what is best for your circumstances; breastfeed/don’t breastfeed, let your kid cry it out/pick him up every time he sniffles, feed him gluten/don’t fee him gluten … WHATEVER.

Ideal for me was waiting until I was in my 30s. For you, it might mean getting married out of high school and starting a family. For someone else it might mean never having kids. The ideal age to have a child is the age you finally decide you’re emotionally and financially ready to have a child.

Again, it’s all about what is best for the woman.  Not her child.

When I was in the 7th grade the school counselor came to my class and asked a boy in that class to come with her.  Why?  She was there to tell him that his mother had died.  The next few years I sweated bullets whenever someone came to my classroom looking for someone to talk to.

A few years later my sister told me about a coworker who took his family on vacation.  That vacation included a visit to a National Military Park.  His two young sons (5 and 7 or there abouts) were excited.  For they were going to see men in period uniforms firing real muskets.  As they ran up a hill with their father their father suffered a massive heart attack and died.  Right in front of them.  My father had just started medication for high blood pressure.  Soon thereafter I went on a family vacation.  And sweated bullets every time there was a steep hill or multiple flights of stairs to climb.

Losing a parent is devastating to a child.  And it’s not what is best for a child.  What is best are healthy parents.  Fathers that can throw the football around with kids.  And run up hills with them without dying.  The greatest sight for most children?  Coming home from school and seeing their mother waiting for them at the door (not seeing her rush in to pick up her pain-in-the-ass at daycare that made her leave work before she wanted to).   This is what’s best for children.  Loving, healthy parents.  And the longer you wait to have your children the greater the odds a child may lose a parent during childhood.  Because as we age the odds of a parent dying from cancer, heart disease, lupus, etc., grow.

Also, the longer we wait to start our families the older our own parents get.  So instead of having grandparents around to help young parents older parents may be raising young children while caring for their parents, too.  The next best thing to having healthy parents is having a healthy Mee-Maw and Pop-Pop to spoil a child.  Not for a child to watch their Mee-Maw or pop-pop die slowly.

So what’s the ideal age to have children?  It depends.  If you do what’s best for your child probably when parents are under 30.  If you do what’s best for you probably later in life.  So your little pains-in-the-ass don’t cramp your style.
