The Obama Administration’s Dollar Devaluation lowers the Cost of Living in Britain

Posted by PITHOCRATES - October 6th, 2013

Week in Review

The British economy appears to be turning the corner.  Of course, they have an advantage over the American economy.  They’re not stuck buying petrol with a devalued American dollar (see UK economy growing at fastest rate in the developed world by Philip Aldrick, and Steve Hawkes posted 10/3/2013 on The Telegraph).

And there were hopes tonight that the signs of life could help tackle the cost of living, with a strong pound helping to push down the cost of petrol, which is traded globally in US dollars.

There are two primary forces that determine the price of gasoline.  Supply and demand.  And the strength of the US dollar.

Thanks to the worst economic recovery since that following the Great Depression, gasoline is not in as great of demand as it once was.  Before President Obama became president.  With so many people having left the labor force people just don’t have the money to put into their gas tanks.  Hence the ‘staycation’.  Spending the family vacation at home.  Doing fun things in the backyard.  Like cutting the grass.  And then when the kids’ chores are done there’s hotdogs on the grill.  Can a week at Disneyland compare to that?

Even though we’re buying less gas gasoline prices are still pretty high.  Why?  Because unlike the British we buy our gasoline with devalued dollars.  Due to all of that quantitative easing.  Printing money to buy treasury bonds.  To stimulate the economy.  Where only the rich Wall Street traders who buy and sell these bonds are getting stimulated.

With more money in circulation chasing the same goods and services in the economy it takes more dollars to buy what they once did.  Including gasoline.  Especially gasoline.  For the higher price of gas can be hidden in other products by reducing the package size of the product sold.  Such as smaller cereal boxes.  The prices may not be going up on cereal but we have to buy cereal more often.  Spending more money in the long run.  The higher price of gasoline (due to a weaker dollar) makes everything more expensive in the supply chain that ultimately puts those boxes of cereal on the supermarket shelf.  Ditto for everything else that is moved with gasoline or diesel.  But they can’t shrink the package size of gasoline to hide the added cost from the devalued dollar.  Because they sell gasoline by a fixed measurement.  We buy it by the gallon.  We don’t buy it by the box.  If we sold cereal by a fixed measurement we’d see cereal prices rising a lot higher than they are now.  But they’re not. So the boxes are getting smaller.

The British pound is stronger than the US dollar.  So when the British buy oil on the world market they exchange stronger pounds for weaker dollars.  Getting more dollars in exchange for their pounds.  Removing the U.S. price inflation (due to the devalued dollar) from the price of oil.  Lowering the cost of oil in Britain.  And lowering costs throughout the British supply chain.  Which will help lower the British cost of living.  Making life easier for the British consumer.  Because the British are more responsible with their currency than the Obama administration is with the American currency.

Studies find Liberated Women becoming Alcoholics instead of June Cleavers

Posted by PITHOCRATES - October 6th, 2013

Week in Review

It is rather ironic that the sexual revolution coincided with the women’s movement.  Women liberated themselves by being more sexually active.  Which is why men loved the women’s movement.  Because they got more of what they wanted.  More sex with more different women.

This focus on women’s sexuality did more to sexualize women than any man did.  What did birth control and abortion do for women?  It gave them the freedom not to get pregnant when having sex.  So they had more sex.  Turning them into sexual objects. Because men didn’t have to marry them to have sex with them.  Which was just fine with them.

It is interesting that women have defined their liberation by living more destructive lives.  Their sexual revolution led to an explosion in STDs.  As women became more liberated more women smoked.  In fact a popular ad for Virginia Slims was, “You’ve come a long way, baby.”   Showing a modern, beautiful, sexy women smoking a cigarette.  About as unlike June Cleaver as you can get.  And what liberated woman doesn’t drink(see Female alcohol abuse is a ‘global epidemic’ by Ann Dowsett Johnson posted 10/5/2013 on the New York Post)?

Alcohol abuse is rising in much of the developed world — and in many countries, female drinkers are driving that growth…

Women with a university degree are almost twice as likely to drink daily as those without. “I ask myself every day if I’m an alcoholic,” says one rising corporate star. “I’m 32, and I drink every night. All my friends drink every night. We haven’t had our kids yet, and we all drink the same way we did in university.”

Says Katherine Brown, director of policy at Britain’s Institute of Alcohol Studies: “Young professional women drink a lot more than women in manual and routine jobs — what you call blue collar. Is it marketing, keeping up with the machismo, children..?”

Brown believes that a crucial driver is the norms of the university years. “It’s an alcohol-soaked environment,” she says. “At the university I went to — Exeter — Carlsberg was a sponsor of events held on campus. The focus was on getting really, really drunk and the most horrendous things used to happen. All social events revolved around drinking, and acting the fool was celebrated…

“It is the issue affecting girls’ health — and it’s going sideways, especially for those 13 to 15.” This is the voice of Nancy Poole, director of research and knowledge translation at the British Columbia Centre of Excellence for Women’s Health. “And the saddest thing,” says Poole, “is alcohol is being marketed as girls’ liberation.”

Drinking calms us.  And lowers our inhibitions.  We drink at a party to get the courage to talk to that person we’re attracted to.  New strippers drink a lot so they can strip down to a tiny thong and gyrate on a man’s lap.  In fact, drinking has been used for years as the prelude for sexual pleasures.  Which is why men buy women drinks.  To get them drunk enough so they lose their inhibitions and have sex with them.  Which is probably why 13-15 year old boys are finding ways to get alcohol so they can binge drink at parties.  And get girls so drunk that they can have sex when they are not of right mind to say ‘no’.  Because nothing puts a damper on having sex more than a girl saying ‘no’.

Of course, these boys get an assist from government.  Thanks to that free birth control available at school.  And abortions without parental notification.  Which gives them the argument that there is nothing to worry about.  Even if there is something to worry about.  Because there’s a way to make problems go away.

When they get to university they take it up a notch.  Because there are no parents around looking out for their best interests.  So they binge drink.  Act stupid.  And do horrendous things.  The kind of things you want to start drinking to forget about when you wake up the following morning.  Unless someone uploads a video of you in the throes of that horrendous thing.  Or you brought home a souvenir that will require medication for the indefinite future.  Or longer.

Liberated woman, you have come a long way.  Baby.

President Obama is Exasperated with the Republicans for not giving him Absolute Power

Posted by PITHOCRATES - October 6th, 2013

Week in Review

Barack Obama promised in the 2008 presidential campaign that there weren’t any blue states or red states, only purple states.  That he would be the president for all Americans.  And that they would all work together.  Democrats and Republicans.  After the election (and the Democrats won the House and Senate) Eric Cantor (Republican) met with President Obama to work together on the stimulus bill.  When discussing the merits of a small business tax cut President Obama had had enough and said, “Elections have consequences, and at the end of the day, I won.”  And because he had won the election the Republicans could go [deleted expletive] themselves.

Okay, so elections have consequences.  And the winners can do whatever they please.  Apparently.  Well, the Republicans won enough elections to hold the House in the 2012 elections.  So they don’t have to bend willingly to the executive branch of government according to the Obama doctrine.  Which really annoys the president (see Obama Says He’s Exasperated With House Republican Faction by Roxana Tiron, Kathleen Hunter & Michael C. Bender posted 10/2/2013 on Bloomberg).

President Barack Obama, declaring himself “exasperated,” said he won’t negotiate with Republicans on the U.S. budget until they reopen the government and raise the debt ceiling without conditions…

Michael Steel, a spokesman for Boehner, said negotiating after Democrats get what they want is “not much of an offer…”

Both sides are jockeying for the political high ground in the standoff. Democrats said the nation was being taken hostage by the Republicans’ Tea Party faction, while the Republicans faulted Senate Democrats and Obama for being unwilling to negotiate over any proposal to delay or curtail the health-care act, which opened for insurance enrollment yesterday…

The U.S. budget deficit in June was 4.3 percent of gross domestic product, down from 10.1 percent in February 2010 and the narrowest since November 2008, when Obama was elected to his first term, according to data compiled by Bloomberg from the Treasury Department and the Bureau of Economic Analysis.

The House of Representatives is the people’s house.  It’s not the king’s Privy Council.  Or an extension of the executive branch.  Exasperated?  Sorry President Obama.  You are not a king.  You do not wield absolute power.

Since President Obama took office he has run record deficits.  And raised the national debt to record levels.  That’s one of the reasons for the Republican opposition to Obamacare.  The nation can’t afford it.  Because it won’t be deficit neutral.  The CBO has revised the cost of Obamacare to be three times what the Democrats said it would originally cost.  To sneak it by the people.  Lying to them that they were going to get more for less.  When in fact they’re going to get less for more.  The people understand this.  Which is why they are mad as hell and are urging their representatives to do everything to prevent Obamacare from both destroying the American health care system and bankrupting the United States.

Exasperated?  It is the American people who are exasperated with a president that continues to govern against their will.

Democrats won’t Negotiate because they want to make the Republicans their Bitch

Posted by PITHOCRATES - October 6th, 2013

Week in Review

The Democrats don’t like sharing power.  Or bipartisanship.  They miss the good old days when they controlled everything.  Both houses of Congress.  And the White House.  As well as the three networks.  Before there was Rush Limbaugh and talk radio.  And cable television.  Which let other voices be heard.  Something they hate.  Why?  Because they have a liberal agenda in a country that is only about 21% liberal.  So they don’t like debate.  Because they are trying to sell what the masses don’t want.  Which is why they cloak their intentions in misleading words.  More government control over our lives is called investment.  Raising tax rates is leveling the playing field.  Making everyone pay their fair share.  And opposition voices are extremists.  Hate peddlers.  Who should be censored.  Etc.

So liberals lie and deceive to pass a liberal agenda the people don’t want.  And they really get upset when they can’t get their way.  For liberals are not manly men.  They weren’t athletic enough to play sports.  Tough or brave enough to go into the military.  On Saturday Night Live a character impersonating an Arnold Schwarzenegger bodybuilder type called these men girly men.  Men like Alan Alda who ate quiche (at the time there was a saying that real men did not eat quiche).  Going further back to the days of Charles Atlas liberals were the skinny guy getting sand kicked into his face.  That is, liberals were the victims of bullying.  Who weren’t manly enough to stand up against a bully.  So when they grew up they went into politics.  To wield a different kind of power.  The power of the state.  So the bullied could become the bully.

We could see this in Breaking Bad.  Walter White was a nice guy that finished last in life.  Where people walked all over him and gave him no respect.  And if that wasn’t bad enough this loser then gets cancer.  But then things change.  And Walter White goes through a transformation and mans up.  Going from bullied to bully.  While destroying lives all around him (see Die Like a Man: The Toxic Masculinity of Breaking Bad by Laura Hudson posted 10/5/2013 on Wired).

Masculinity in Breaking Bad is a brittle thing, one so terrified of weakness that any display of vulnerability must be punished, and any slight against another man’s power answered with violence – or else perceived as a weakness. We see it in the hyper-masculine culture of both the neo-Nazis and the drug cartel, where the air is always dripping with machismo and vengeance is considered an almost sacred duty.

This model of manhood also requires control not only over your own life, but over the lives of others. Think about all of the most iconic moments of the show, the badass lines that made us want to pump our fists: “Say my name.” “I am the danger.” “I am the one who knocks.” “I won.” Every single time, it’s about dominance – not just about having power, but about taking power away from someone else…

In short, calling a man a “bitch” is designed to diminish his power by comparing him to a woman. It implies that women are weaker and less powerful, and also that they are to be used and dominated. “Bitch” is linked to exploitation, to submission; if you make someone your bitch, you force them to submit to your will, in one way or another.

If we learned anything from the kind, brilliant Gale, it’s that the Walter White who dies at the end of the show would have had no problem shooting the Walter White of the first episode in the head if he got in his way. When the nerd who was bullied becomes the bully, should we really feel a sense of satisfaction? Or should we take a deep, soul-searching look at the sort of system that makes underdogs like Walt feel like the only way they can be men is by destroying and dominating everyone around them?

Liberals have a lot in common with Walter White.  Who will not be satisfied until they make the Republicans their bitch.  These girly men (i.e., liberal Democrats) who have for the most part accomplished nothing in their lives other than buy elections have no intentions of giving the Republicans anything.  When the Republicans meet with the Democrats to negotiate the Democrats simply refuse to negotiate.  Even President Obama said he will not negotiate.  Saying the Republicans must first submit to his will.  Give him everything he wants first then he will negotiate with them.  After which, of course, there will be nothing left to negotiate.

The liberals are not saying it but you can hear them say it.  “Say my name, bitch.”  “I am the danger, bitch.”  “I am the one who knocks, bitch.”  And “I will win, bitch.”  For liberals are not going to be that bullied kid in high school anymore.  They’re the bully now.  They have the power.  And they want to emasculate the opposition.  The jocks and the military types.  Who tormented them in high school.  But not anymore.  For it’s payback time, bitch.

It’s not the Traffic that crashed the Obamacare Website but Bad Website Design

Posted by PITHOCRATES - October 6th, 2013

Week in Review

The Obamacare website got off to a less than illustrious start.  That is, it failed to work.  The Obama administration said the website failed because it was overwhelmed by so many people wanting to log on at the same time to get them some Obamacare.  But people who actually know how to design websites said it wasn’t a capacity problem.  The problem is something common whenever the government tries to do anything.  They just did a poor job designing the Obamacare website (see Obamacare architecture flawed: Experts by Reuters posted 10/6/2013 on The Times of India).

Days after the launch of the federal government’s Obamacare website, millions of Americans looking for information on new health insurance plans were still locked out of the system even though its designers scrambled to add capacity.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, which oversaw development of the site, declined to make any of its IT experts available for interviews. CGI Group Inc, the Canadian contractor that built HealthCare.gov, is “declining to comment at this time,” said spokeswoman Linda Odorisio.

Five outside technology experts interviewed by Reuters, however, say they believe flaws in system architecture, not traffic alone, contributed to the problems.

For instance, when a user tries to create an account on HealthCare.gov, which serves insurance exchanges in 36 states, it prompts the computer to load an unusually large amount of files and software, overwhelming the browser, experts said.

If they are right, then just bringing more servers online, as officials say they are doing, will not fix the site…

One possible cause of the problems is that hitting “apply” on HealthCare.gov causes 92 separate files, plug-ins and other mammoth swarms of data to stream between the user’s computer and the servers powering the government website, said Matthew Hancock, an independent expert in website design. He was able to track the files being requested through a feature in the Firefox browser…

[Matthew Hancock, an independent expert in website design,] said because so much traffic was going back and forth between the users’ computers and the server hosting the government website, it was as if the system was attacking itself.

Hancock described the situation as similar to what happens when hackers conduct a distributed denial of service, or DDOS, attack on a website: they get large numbers of computers to simultaneously request information from the server that runs a website, overwhelming it and causing it to crash or otherwise stumble. “The site basically DDOS’d itself,” he said.

Did you catch that?  President Obama and the Democrats have lambasted corporations for outsourcing American jobs.  Called them a whole bunch of nasty names.  Unpatriotic.  Greedy.  You name it.  And yet here they are.  Outsourcing the design of the Obamacare website.  So I guess the Obama administration is unpatriotic, greedy, etc.

Those “92 separate files, plug-ins and other mammoth swarms of data to stream between the user’s computer and the servers powering the government website” does not fill one with a lot of confidence that our private and personal data they’re collecting will be secure.  Complicated systems are more subject to breaking down.  And getting hacked.

If these people who actually know how to design websites are right that means the Obama administration lied to us about what was wrong with the Obamacare website.  Of course, president Obama said if we liked our health insurance plan and our doctor we could keep them.  Which were lies.  It seems like the Obama administration has a habit of lying to the American people to get what they want against our will.

Not only that they sic the IRS on their political enemies.  As well as using the IRS to suppress voter turnout on the right.  By making it harder for Tea Party groups to be politically active like they were in the 2010 mid-term election.  Who rose up in opposition to Obamacare.  Had the Obama administration not use the full weight of their powers to suppress the Tea Party during the 2012 election President Obama would not have won reelection.  And Obamacare may have already been repealed by this time.  For it was conservatives that sat home and didn’t vote for Romney.  Because the Tea Party wasn’t active like in the previous election to motivate them.  Or they were intimidated by the left and were afraid of the IRS.  Further reasons to fear the data mining of the Obamacare website.  Which the IRS will have access to.

Perhaps we should be grateful that they designed the Obamacare website poorly.  For it will let us keep our personal and private information secure for a little longer.
