Time names Organized Protesters Masquerading as Spontaneous Democracy Person of the Year

Posted by PITHOCRATES - December 17th, 2011

Week in Review

There are two sides to every issue.  Take the Occupy Wall Street movement.  Time Magazine has made these protestors their Person of the Year.  While Investors.com calls these maggot infested hippy, communist-loving, capitalist-hating pond-scum something else (See “Occupy” A Media Creation Unworthy Of Time’s Person Of The Year posted 12/16/2011 on Investors.com).

Occupy Wall Street — the unkempt campout of the same old rent-a-radicals calling for redistribution of wealth — was largely a media-generated phenomenon whose significance ends there.

Unlike the far larger and more politically potent Tea Party movement, which Time often ignored, Occupy is the thin gruel of radicalism writ large by unwarranted media attention.

It has no demands other than socialist utopia, has elected no one, has failed to draw support from middle Americans and has proven itself mainly a public nuisance. Had the media not showered Occupy with attention, it wouldn’t be news at all.

How do we know? Polls show that the public remains intensely opposed to the Occupy media circus. If that’s not clear enough, the Democratic Party did its utmost to distance itself from Occupy once it learned its support would cost them votes.

That’s why Democratic city machines in the political downstream, after weeks of kowtowing to the protesters, shut down their camps all at once. They know a political liability when they see one…

In its Man-of-the-Year edition,Time calls Occupy a mass movement as significant as those of 1848, while ignoring what the public is noticing — the disease, rape, freeloading, filth, depravity, stench and murder rampant in the camps.

Time tried to tie Occupy’s irrelevant protests in with the flash Arab protests that have fueled Islamofascism as well as the tantrums of economically illiterate youth in Spain, Greece and the U.K.

But far from being spontaneous rage, Occupy’s protests were fully planned over the summer by radical groups like MoveOn.org and Adbusters, a Canadian cabal that thrives on attention.

See?  There are two sides to every issue.  In the case of Occupy Wall Street there is the truth.  As reported by Investors.com and other news organizations.  And the propaganda spread by the mainstream media.  Spreading the lie that this political movement organized by radical groups was actually spontaneous democracy.  All to help an unpopular president win reelection.  By spreading the flames of class warfare.  So President Obama can run against the greed of Wall Street instead of his record.  Because his record is not the kind that lets presidents win reelection.

Fukushima now Stable 9 months after Earthquake/Tsunami, Still no Chernobyl

Posted by PITHOCRATES - December 17th, 2011

Week in Review

The Fukushima disaster was bad.  But it wasn’t Chernobyl bad.  And it doesn’t appear it’s going to get Chernobyl bad.  No doubt to the dismay of antinuclear environmentalists everywhere (see Japan to declare ‘cold shut-down’ at Fukushima posted 12/16/2011 on BBC News Asia).

An earthquake and tsunami in March knocked out vital cooling systems, triggering radiation leaks and forcing the evacuation of thousands of people.

Mr Noda’s declaration of a “cold shutdown” condition marked the stabilisation of the plant.

The government says it will take decades to dismantle it completely.

It took about 9 months to make these reactor cores stable.  And there has been some radiation released here and there.  But nothing like in the Ukraine when Chernobyl blew up and wafted it’s radioactive debris across Europe.  Remember, Chernobyl was the result of an exercise gone wrong.  Human error.  Fukushima was hammered with first an earthquake.  Which it withstood.  Then a tsunami.  Which it withstood, too.  Unfortunately, the electrical switchgear that powered its cooling pumps became submerged in salt water.  Something that doesn’t mix well with electricity.  And the cooling pumps failed.  Then the reactors overheated.

As bad as a nuclear accident is there must be a lot of people who thought that if we must have one at least it happened in Japan.  And, no, not because anyone wishes the Japanese any ill will.  Fukushima has been out of the news for half a year or so.  And yet they only stabilized it now.  Which means that for 6 months or so few have paid attention to the worst nuclear accident since Chernobyl.  Tells you a lot about the Japanese.  No one doubted that they would take care of this problem.  For they have an in-depth understanding of the technology they use.  And can respond to any accident that their engineering let’s pass.

Can you imagine if this happened in Iran?

Canada may be out of the Kyoto Protocol, but Quebec is Proceeding with their own Cap-and Trade

Posted by PITHOCRATES - December 17th, 2011

Week in Review

Quebec is perhaps the most European of the Canadian provinces.  They don’t even speak English there.  Their road signs and billboards are all in French.  People talk to each other in French.  No.  When you’re in Quebec you don’t feel like you’re in Canada.  You feel like you’re in France.  So it’s no surprise that even though Canada pulled out of the Kyoto protocol that Quebec would still be all in for this global warming nonsense.  Because it’s so European (see Quebec goes it alone with cap-and-trade climate plan by Philippe Teisceira-Lessard posted 12/15/2011 on The Globe and Mail).

With global climate-change talks in limbo, Quebec is the first province to push ahead with its own cap-and-trade program.

The province says it’s emulating California as it becomes the first Canadian province to start enforcing cap-and-trade regulations for carbon emissions…

The new provincial program applies to large industrial emitters and will require them to reduce their carbon footprint or buy clean-air credits at $10 per tonne of greenhouse gases.

It is being run in conjunction with the Western Climate Initiative, whose stated objective is to reduce emissions 15 per cent below 2005 levels by 2020. Quebec’s own target is significantly stricter, with a planned 20 per cent reduction from 1990 levels by the end of this decade.

And this gives a little hint why they are all in for this global warming nonsense.  Their stricter requirements will not only punish businesses by making them less competitive, but it will be a windfall for government coffers.  For Quebec is European in more ways than one.  They, like their European brethren, have a costly and generous public sector.  Like all those social democracies of Europe causing that sovereign debt crisis over there.  So they can use this clean-air money to shore up some budget deficits.  Before they, too, have to start living within their means.

The global warming agenda is no different in Canada than it is in Europe.  It’s about the money.  Just another way for governments spending beyond their means to transfer more wealth from the private sector to the public sector.  Apparently the other provinces have made the hard choices and got their budgets in order.  Which is probably why Quebec is going down this road alone.  They refuse to make the hard choices.  So they make the easy one instead.   By raising taxes.  And over-regulating business.  Which, of course, will only hurt these businesses.  Reduce economic activity.  And bring in less tax revenue into government coffers.  Making cap-and-trade a lose-lose proposition for Quebeckers.  As it is for people everywhere betrayed by their governments in the name of global warming.

Canada pulls out of the Kyoto Protocol, Favor a Healthy Economy and Jobs Instead of Bad Science

Posted by PITHOCRATES - December 17th, 2011

Week in Review

How about that?  George W. Bush is still be blamed for ruining the world (see Canada first nation to pull out of Kyoto protocol by David Ljunggren posted 12/13/2011 on Reuters).

Canada’s widely criticized withdrawal from the Kyoto protocol ends a decade-long saga that began in earnest when former President George W. Bush walked away from the global climate change treaty in 2001…

Canada is the largest supplier of oil and gas to the United States and sends 75 percent of its exports south each month…

In 2002, Canadian Chamber of Commerce and the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers said ratifying Kyoto would cut gross domestic product by up to 2.5 percent by 2010.

George Bush hasn’t been president since 2008.  President Obama has been in office for three years now.  Surely if a president had the power to commit their nation to the Kyoto protocol it would have been Obama.  But he didn’t.  Why?  I can only guess that the American people didn’t want it.  Because it was based on bad science.  And was a job killer.

“In my judgment the person who really torpedoed this whole enterprise was George Bush. Had the Americans participated … by now there would be enormous pressure on the Chinese and the Indians to be accepting targets,” he said.

Yeah, like anyone can make the Chinese do what they want.  Everyone is bitching about the Chinese manipulating their currency to give them an unfair advantage in international trade.  And how has that enormous pressure worked so far on the Chinese?  Suffice it to say that their currency still gives them unfair advantage in international trade.

Canada may be green but they’re no fools.  They have an export energy economy.  And the last thing they need is some BS environmental restraints on that bustling economy during trying economic times.  Especially with the theory of man-made global warming having been further debunked by Climategate 2.  The second batch of leaked emails from the University of East Anglia exposing man-made global warming for the fraud that it is.

George W. Bush didn’t put the kibosh on the Kyoto protocol.  The bad science of global warming did.

Hurricane Forecasters admit that they have no Forecasting Skills

Posted by PITHOCRATES - December 17th, 2011

Week in Review

The hurricane forecasters have come clean.  They’re not good at forecasting (see Hurricane experts admit they can’t predict hurricanes early; December forecasts too unreliable by Tom Spears posted 12/13/2011 on The Ottawa Citizen).

Two top U.S. hurricane forecasters, famous across Deep South hurricane country, are quitting the practice of making a seasonal forecast in December because it doesn’t work.

William Gray and Phil Klotzbach say a look back shows their past 20 years of forecasts had no predictive value.

The two scientists from Colorado State University will still discuss different probabilities of hurricane seasons in December. But the shift signals how far humans are, even with supercomputers, from truly knowing what our weather will do in the long run…

“We are discontinuing our early December quantitative hurricane forecast for the next year … Our early December Atlantic basin seasonal hurricane forecasts of the last 20 years have not shown real-time forecast skill even though the hindcast studies on which they were based had considerable skill.”

Imagine that.  Those responsible for forecasting all that doom and gloom because of man-made global warming have admitted that their forecasting skills suck.  Which means all of those models for man-made global warming must suck, too.

It turns out that climate is just too complex to reduce to a computer model.  Making hurricane forecasting 6 months in advance impossible.  And if they can’t forecast hurricanes accurately 6 months into the future than they can’t forecast climate, either.  Meaning all those dire predictions of rising sea levels and melting polar icecaps was just made up for political purposes.

The only thing man-made about global warming is the politics behind it.  So governments that financed this ‘science’ can tax and regulate industry.  To refill government coffers everywhere suffering from huge budget deficits.

Looking for the Higgs Boson, the so-called ‘God Particle’, is Real Science unlike Man-Made Global Warming

Posted by PITHOCRATES - December 17th, 2011

Week in Review

Fascinating stuff.  Theoretical physics taking us back to God?  Perhaps (see The search for the God particle goes beyond mere physics by Michael Gerson posted 12/15/2011 on The Washington Post).

The God particle — really the Higgs boson — still resists confirmation, though scientists at the Large Hadron Collider recently reported “tantalizing hints” of its existence. They also reject the notion that their search has anything to do with God, which is only technically true.

Modern physics can explain just about everything, except why anything has mass. The Standard Model of physics, which emerged four decades ago, employs an elegant mathematical formula to account for most of the elemental forces in the universe. It correctly predicted the discovery of various leptons and quarks in the laboratory.

But the equation doesn’t explain gravity. So the Standard Model requires the existence of some other force that seized the massless particles produced by the Big Bang and sucked them into physicality. The detection of Higgs bosons would confirm this theory — which is why scientists are smashing protons into one another in a 17-mile round particle accelerator and picking through the subatomic wreckage.

The Standard Model of Physics emerged 4 decades ago.  That’s 40 years.  And still they’re testing it.  Trying to find something that should be there.  But may not.  The Higgs boson.  The so-called ‘God particle’.  Which would really tie everything together.  They haven’t found it yet.  But, the good scientists they are, these physicists are still trying.  After 40 years.  Using real scientific inquiry.  And always being skeptical.

This is tough science.  Science held to a much higher standard than man-made global warming ‘science’.  Where they simply skip the experimental.  And announce their theory as fact.  You have to admit it saves a lot of time.  And lets government get down to business.  Taxing and regulating industry based on scientifically unfounded man-made global warming to replenish empty state treasuries.

Interesting stuff.  Be sure to read full Washington post article.  And follow the link to the Standard Model of physics.  Just because it’s so fascinating.  And really makes you think of the bigger picture.  And the tinier one, too.
